Opportunities to showcase your artistic creations in the public arena are arranged by our Art, Letters and Music Committees. You’ll have a chance to network with our creative members and expand your reach in the local community. You can participate in our sponsored special events, contests that interest and inspire you, and national webinars that offer valuable information.  This once-a-year membership event will feature an exciting Silent Auction. You can bid on unique member artwork, authors’ books, gift baskets, theater tickets, and more.

National League Of American Pen Women Fort Lauderdale Branch Announces Call For Art

The Fort Lauderdale Branch of National League of American Pen Women share a Call for Artists for a juried exhibition of all media. The event takes place at the Herb Skolnick Community Center in Pompano Beach, FL.  The public is invited to an Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 10th.  The juror, Lark Keeler, currently serves on the faculty of the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale.  The Rickie Report shares the details and urges the artists to apply – and art patrons to visit the exhibit, which is open February 1st through March 1st.

About the National League of American Pen Women:

Since its founding in 1897 by Marian Longfellow O’Donoghue, Henry Longfellow’s niece, the League seeks to create progression and advancement in visual arts, literary work, and musical composition. As the oldest and largest women’s arts organization, members share their creativity in a number of ways, including workshops, exhibitions, discussion groups, performances, demonstrations and lectures, fostering networking and friendships among members, while maintaining a high, broad standard of work, effort and strength that comes from the union. Each year the Fort Lauderdale Branch awards three $1,000 scholarships to a high school senior woman who has been accepted and enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college, university or technical school.

National League Of American Pen Women Fort Lauderdale Chapter Invites You To Juried Art Exhibit, “The Nature Of Women”

An opening reception to kick off the “The Nature of Women” juried Art Exhibit for the National League of American Pen Women, Ft. Lauderdale Branch (NLAPW) will be held Thursday, February 25, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Bailey Hall. It is located at 3501 Davie Road, Davie, Florida, 33314 and is Free to attend. According to Marjorie Stanbury, Events Coordinator for Bailey Hall, this reception is only the second art exhibit in the newly renovated $1.4 million performance hall and gallery facility located on Broward College’s Central Campus in Davie. 85 pieces of fine art, including water color, oil, acrylic, photography and sculpture, are on display from 19 award-winning, women artists. ABOUT THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF AMERICAN PEN WOMEN

 

 

The need for an organization to include women of the press at the turn of the 19th century impelled newspaper woman Marian Longfellow O’Donoghue (Henry Longfellow’s niece) to establish such a group.

 

 

She, along with 17 charter members, filed its first application for incorporation with a membership of 50 professionals including women writers, composers and artists. The League has been promoting and conducting literary, educational and charitable activities in the fields of Art, Letters and Music for the past 118 years throughout the United States.

 

 

 

The Fort Lauderdale Branch, comprise of members from the tri-county area, meets monthly for luncheons in the Broward County area from October to April each year. Artists, musicians, writers and historians present a variety of programs.

An annual art competition open to all tri-county women artists as well as additional exhibits for Arts and Letters members are presented throughout the year. Several creative programs each year attract audiences interested in jewelry making and paper making to abstract and batik art.

 

 

 

 

 

In April, the season ends with the Annual Achievement Awards program and luncheon at which time scholarship financial awards are presented to several area high school senior women who have met the Pen Women criteria and will go on to college to study in the areas of Arts, Music and/or Writing.
