JANET  ROGERS

Portrait by Janet Rogers

February 17-18   SESSION I –   “WATERCOLOR IMPRESSIONS – FLOWERS TO LANDSCAPE”

9 am – 4 pm    $300

Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this workshop.  Janet will demonstrate various “fun” exercises geared to interpret flowers in a loose and expressive manner.  Discovering the unique “nature” of individual flowers and “finding” new colors will be highlighted.  We will also explore how to interpret the landscape from photos in an impressionistic style.  Demonstrations and individual help will weave throughout the workshop, with an emphasis on letting the medium of watercolor lead the students to new adventures in watercolor.  (PLEIN AIR – in studio!)  Some goals include “keeping the whites”, avoiding “mud”, intuitive color and composition.  Besides working with students individually and class demos, Janet and attendees  will enjoy “Show and Tell” – and opportunity to see class work together and enjoy!

ALL LEVELS WELCOME

February  19,20,21   SESSION II –  “WATERCOLOR IMPRESSIONS – THE HEAD & FIGURE”

9 am – 4 pm  $375

This dynamic workshop is designed to enable participants to quickly gain confidence in approaching the portrait and figure in a more spontaneous, intuitive and expressive way.  Demonstrations, class instruction, individual assistance, “show and tell”, and a series of “fun” exercises, (which will include drawing, color and paint application) will weave into class painting time.  Special emphasis will be on achieving a fresh look of translucent flesh tones in the portrait with unique color changes, which will add to the excitement of capturing the essence of the subject.  Many “features” will be covered, including an approach to children’s portraits.  No fear in this workshop – drawing help is available – no matter what level. Students will have an opportunity to work from their photographs or Janet’s and also the opportunity to paint in a gestural and intuitive manner from the live model for ½ of the last day.  Our goals will be to “see” in new ways — bringing “life” and interpretation to the portrait and figure, and to discover intuitive color and design.

ALL LEVELS WELCOME

PAUL   JACKSON

February 24 -26

Paul’s focus for this workshop will be to guide you through a painting from beginning to end, as you paint together a stunning image of dramatic light and luminosity. You may choose to follow along and work on the same image, or find another subject entirely. Paul will happily work with you through whatever subject you choose.  Paint with Paul and he’ll help you reach the next level of artistic confidence and ability as he guides you through a painting, illustrating the principles of design, color, value, composition and the mechanics of watercolor.  Through informal lectures, discussions, demonstrations and critiques you refine your personal painting style. Come prepared to be entertained, make new artist friends and find logical and creative answers to your watercolor problems.

Paul will demonstrate the versatility of watercolor paint. You will learn…

  • How to work in thin layers of washes to build up luminous colors.

  • How to plan the entire picture area

  • The importance of thinking through the composition, good division of shapes, value planning,

  • What to communicate about your subject

  • How to correct mistakes.

“Perfect Curves” by Paul Jackson

Paul will lead you step-by-step with demonstrations of the painting process.   If watercolor is your passion, then this highly energized painting workshop is for you! Paul’s stress-free, positive approach toward the act of painting will inspire you to loosen up and have fun again. Expect an intense, concentrated and lively workshop where you will elevate your understanding of watercolor.

RHEA LEWIS PHOTOGRAPHY

Warrior Goddess Movement:

A Healing Photo Journey for Breast Cancer Survivors

Exhibit runs April 1 – 30, 2019

Benefits:

MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER
and
LIGHTHOUSE DRAGONS SOS

The purpose of Rhea’s charity project is being able to help breast cancer survivors see their beauty in a new way, to get comfortable in their own skin, and to redefine and re-connect who they are as woman after their diagnosis. It’s not about showing their scars and the ugly side of cancer, but about forgetting their scars, celebrating their beauty as women no matter what their new body looks like.  The imagery is truly a representation of the beautiful inner light that all women share and it reminds them that the scars don’t define them.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer:

The American Cancer Society has a presence in more than 3,400 communities across the country and is the only organization available 24 hours a day, seven days aweek to help people touched by cancer. Breast cancer is the number one reason people call the Society. When you support Making Strides, you are helping the Society seek better ways to prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer, as well as provide help and hope to people facing the disease.

Lighthouse Dragons SOS:

Lighthouse Dragons is a dragon boat team composed of breast cancer survivors and their supporters. We promote a healthy and life affirming activity through the sport of dragon boating. Each of us is a powerful example that one can lead a full and active life after a diagnosis of breast cancer.

MEET      THE      ARTISTS:

JASON     MATHIAS

Native Floridian, Jason Mathias was born in Stuart, Florida where some of his earliest memories are of the ocean aboard his grandfather’s charter boat “Do Stay”.  As a child, Jason’s two favorite pastimes were drawing and fishing, and it wasn’t before long that he stated combining the two.  After graduating from Martin County High School as art student of the month, Jason was accepted into Ringling School of Art & Design where he majored in illustration.  He quickly became known to both fellow students and faculty as “the fish guy”.  While at Ringling, Jason began his practice of taking underwater footage to use as reference material for his growing portfolio of realistic marine life paintings.  While still a student, he launched his career creating murals, commissioned artwork and freelance illustrations for Mote Marine Laboratories – an experience that not only won him recognition for his unique talents as a marine life illustrator, but also concretized his chosen path as a marine and wildlife artist.

Gallery View of Jason Mathias’ artistry

Within the first two years of graduating from Ringling School of Art and Design, Jason was the premier featured artist at (IGFA) International Game Fish Association Museum Hall of Fame. Jason had also been featured artist numerous times and made several print signing appearances with (CCA) Coastal Conservation Association, and has been featured in many Galleries and museums such as the Cornell Museum in Delray Beach.  Jason’s current fine art compositions in oils, acrylics and watercolors are drawn from the extensive experience and underwater digital video he takes while exploring the planet’s oceans.  You can now find Jason’s works in stores, museums and galleries throughout the world, including Europe, Egypt, Australia, Hawaii, South America, Canada and Central America.

About Anita:

“I began my professional career as an artist for Hallmark in Kansas City. Later I moved to New York City and studied with Milton Glaser while working as a freelance illustrator. I also worked at the New York Shakepeare Festival as a graphic design coordinator. In 2001, Delray Beach became my new home, and I began to concentrate on watercolor painting. In 2008 I created the iconic and much-loved “Dancing Pineapples” mural in Delray Beach which has become identified with the town. I also created and published my first coloring book, “Shoefirmations.”

She is the creator of the large “Dancing Pineapples Mural” which graces the entrance to Pineapple Grove in downtown Delray Beach, as well as numerous private and public commissions. Anita has taught drawing and painting for many years, and is also a talented digital artist. Her favorite medium, however, is watercolor.
