Marvin S Cone Annual High School Juried Art Show Will Impress! Public Is Invited To Meet The Artists On May 2 At Court House Cultural Center In Stuart

The Marvin S. Cone Annual High School Juried Art Show honors its founder’s enthusiasm for young people and the arts.  Inspired by the creativity of art students in Martin County, he transformed the annual high school art exhibit into an event that brings the entire community together. The Arts Council of Martin County invites the public to the Court House Cultural Center Gallery on May 2 to meet the artists and view the exhibit.  The Exhibit is open now and continues through May 23.  A unique component of the High School Juried Art show is the awarding of Purchase Awards presented by the Superintendent, school principals, and local government entities and non-profits.  Purchase awards often represent the first sale of art that the emerging student artists can claim in what may inspire a future career choice.  The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks.

Featuring artwork from student artists at Clark Advanced Learning Center, Jensen Beach High School, Martin County High School, South Fork High School, and The Pine School, this exhibit was juried by artist Carol Staub. The exhibit chair is retired high school art teacher, Tom Prestopnik. The public is invited the the Awards Reception on Thursday, May 2.  Best of Show, as well as prizes in each of five mediums: sculpture, drawing, photography/digital prints, painting, and mixed media will be awarded.

Established in 1987, the Marvin S. Cone Annual High School Juried Art Show honors its founder and his enthusiasm for young people, the arts, and his timeless effort in making the event what it is today. Inspired by the creativity of art students in Martin County, he encouraged them to pursue even greater achievements by transforming the annual high school art exhibit into an event that truly recognized student’s artistic accomplishments. The Arts Council of Martin County is proud to honor Mr. Cone’s legacy with this annual tradition. 

 

 

 

 

Awards will be presented at the Awards Reception on Thursday, May 2nd from 5:30-7pm for the Best of Show, as well as prizes in each of five mediums: sculpture, drawing, photography/digital prints, painting, and mixed media.  The judge for this year’s exhibition is artist Carol Staub.  The exhibit chair is retired high school art teacher, Tom Prestopnik.

A unique component of the High School Juried Art show is the awarding of Purchase Awards presented by the Superintendent, school principals, and local government entities and non-profits.  Purchase awards often represent the first sale of art that the emerging student artists can claim in what may inspire a future career choice.  To date, purchase awards have been selected by the following institutions: Children’s Services Council, Clark Advanced Learning Center, Jensen Beach High School, Martin County High School, Martin County Supervisor of Elections, The Historical Society of Martin County, The Pine School, South Fork High School, Martin County School Superintendent’s Office, and the Zweben Law Group.

 

 

 

The Arts Council recognizes the important work of our High School Visual Arts teachers and thanks them for supporting the students to participate in the exhibition: Tracy Canada, Tami Conrad, Laura Dervin, Daniel Gorostiaga, Alexandria Gribble, Shelby Hart, Bryan Johnson, Amanda Jones, Maria Miele, and Steve Naumann.   Sponsors include Palm City Art & Frame, Fox McCluskey Bush Robison PLLC, Publix Super Markets Charities, David Golden Law Offices, and Geico – Misty Moody.

“Common Threads” Explores Color, Style And Texture At GalleRE. Behind The Scenes At Resource Depot: YOUR Resource For Materials, Classes And More Than You Can Begin To Imagine!

The Resource Depot and the Conniston Middle School art department invite the public to  “Common Threads”. Displayed at Resource Depot’s GalleRE, this art exhibition represents unity and diversity through different colors, styles, and textures of fabric that were found in Resource Depot donations.  There will be a Special Workshop Open to the Public on February 11th to create Fabric Portraits.  This is just one phenomenal place to explore for yourself, your students, and organizations!  The Rickie Report shares the details about Resource Depot, one of our Community Partners.

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS UNIFY THROUGH ART

 


Resource Depot and the Conniston Middle School art department join together for a creative project called “Common Threads”. Displayed at Resource Depot’s GalleRE, “Common Threads” is a student art exhibition representing unity and diversity through different colors, styles, and textures of fabric that were found in Resource Depot donations. Seeing all these mismatched materials and how they work together reminds us that the same is true for people.

 

 

“Common Threads” is now open through March 15th

Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5.00

GalleRE hours:

Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 am – 5 pm

Wednesdays 11 am – 7 pm, and Saturdays 9 am – 2 pm

 

 

The Resource Depot GalleRE serves as a space to not only display upcycled artwork, but also to inspire others to think about what they are throwing away and how it could benefit someone else. All art pieces exhibited in the GalleRE include some aspect of reusable materials.

 

We will be CLOSED Saturday, February 18th.

OUR IMPACT

We fill minds, not landfills. We turn almost 200,000 pounds of reusable stuff a year into classroom and alternative art materials, equipping educational programs, public workshops, and the weekend tinkerer with all sorts of unusual and inspiring resources to build, make and create with in Palm Beach County.

We have one focus in mind: inspiring individuals to make a difference in our world through environmental awareness and to participate in the ripple effect of taking small, but immediate action towards making your community a better place.

OUR HISTORY

1999
Resource Depot was founded. Members from the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County,Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, the Palm Beach County School District and Florida Power & Light, came together to divert clean, safe, reusable materials that would otherwise be destined for the landfill into the hands of people who can use them for educational and artistic purposes.

2013
After several changes of location in the intervening years, we finally found the ideal home: 2510 Florida Avenue, off Belvedere in West Palm Beach. We made our big move in the fall allowing our role in the community to expand. We are still “the teacher place” but we are also SO MUCH MORE. We couldn’t be more proud of our space, and we invite you to visit any time during our shopping hours to check it out! Please note warehouse access policies.

About Resource Depot:

Resource Depot is a non-profit organization in Palm Beach County that has been inspiring the masses for 17 years to reduce waste by way of creative reuse. Each year, Resource Depot rescues approximately 83 tons of waste from our landfills transforming that into supplies for classrooms, educational programs, and the weekend tinkerer. They spark imagination through their annual memberships, field trips, a summer Junk Camp, and in-house DIY workshops for all ages.
