“WAZE”

Waze, a GPS-based geographical navigation application program for smartphones provides turn-by-turn information and user-submitted travel times and route details.  The mobile telephone network Waze Ltd., which was founded in 2008 in Israel by Uri Levine, software engineer Ehud Shabtai and Amir Shiner, and is now available in over 100 countries, was acquired by Google. (en.wikipidea.org)

The exhibit, from Israel’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Space, displays 47 photographs highlighting groundbreaking discoveries in agriculture, medicine, robotics, computerization, archeology, space, mathematics and social sciences. Examples include the development of Waze, the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app; innovative treatments for Parkinson’s disease; and the essential office gadget, the USB flash drive.

The photography was supplied by the Israeli government and originally displayed at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport in Israel. For the U.S. debut, the exhibit space was donated by Palm Beach Outlets and curated by Ilene Gruber Adams.  “It’s an incredible honor to curate such an important exhibition for the Jewish Federation. Scientific research serves as a bridge between cultures and nations. I look forward to seeing the positive reaction of the community,” added Adams.

“SEEDLESS GRAPES”

Seedless grapes are generally preferred by consumers for fresh consumption. The development of new seedless selections has been recognized as a key factor in breeding programs throughout the world. Israel’s Volcani Center is actively involved in breeding seedless grapes. Special emphasis is given to the time of ripening, firmness, high sugar content, special aromas, loose and uniform bunches, natural big berries, good shelf life and reduced labor costs world wide.  (www.ishs.org)

“This dynamic, international exhibit offers residents and visitors the opportunity to form deeper connections to Israel through visual arts and learning about prolific scientific achievements. We are thrilled to bring this thought-provoking exhibition to the community and showcase some of the amazing inventions that have come from Israel,” said Bar Sananes, Jewish Federation’s Israeli emissary.

Kobi Levi’s “wearable art” shoe designs are revered for their whimsical nature and masterful craftsmanship. His creations transfer the essence of daily objects such as bananas and birds, cheerleaders, chewing gum and coffee as well as fantasy and glamor – think Disney characters and mother/daughter duos – into the shape of shoes. Celebrities including Lady Gaga (Double Boots), Whoopi Goldberg, and Fergie (Chewing Gum) have been seen wearing his designs. The Kobi Levi “pop up boutique” at the Rosen Museum Gallery in Boca Raton will feature 30 unique pairs of hand-made, custom shoes.

“My inspiration for a new design originates from a simple concept or image and then the shoe becomes my canvas,” Kobi Levi explains. “My work blends the boundaries of art, design and fashion, as I relate to aspects from all three fields. I am thrilled to bring my visually humoristic footwear to the U.S. and excited to be launching two brand new designs at the Levis JCC!”

About Kobi Levi:

Design and shoes have been Kobi Levi’s passion since his childhood in Tel Aviv, Israel. After his graduation in 2001 from Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design, Jerusalem, Kobi Levi worked as a freelance footwear designer. During this time, he learned the trade secrets of shoe development and craftsmanship, while spending his leisure time designing unique, creative and innovative shoe styles, which challenge the standard definitions of design, art and fashion to create a niche of their own. It was in 2010 when Kobi’s creations began to receive attention from around the world, including a spot in Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way” music video. The demand for Kobi Levi’s wearable art exploded and in July 2011 Kobi opened his studio in Tel Aviv, offering his original designs for sale. In the studio he creates, develops and produces limited editions from his designs. All pairs are made by hand from high-quality materials.
