“Jupiter Lighthouse” by Kathryn Morlock

Kathryn is a Miami native who has always had a passion for sketching, painting and photography. She took art classes all through school and obtained an Associates of Science degree in Commercial Art from Miami-Dade Community College (now Miami College). After graduation she worked as a graphic artist in the commercial and advertising business in Miami.

“Ballerinas” by Kathryn Morlock

She now makes her home in Wellington. She has studied figure drawing, watercolor and oils at the Armory Art Center, Lake Worth Art League and through private lessons.  Kathryn tells The Rickie Report,“Realistic and brightly colored, my work tends to be mostly serene and peaceful, taking the viewer to a beautiful place”.

“Key Lime Pier” by  Kathryn Morlock

Kathryn loves to travel and take photographs of scenes or people she might like to paint. Her favorite subjects are beaches, tropical landscapes, unusual or historic buildings and people in interesting places. There’s always a certain photo that inspires her to create a painting. Colors in nature, a scene, a subject, the mood created by light and dark and shadows capture her interest. The subject or scene determines the medium she will use: watercolor or oil.

“The Look” by Kathryn Morlock

Kathryn’s art has been displayed at the Armory Art Center, Art in Public Places at the Palm Beach International Airport, Wellington Community Center, Wellington City Hall, Art Fest on the Green, Lake Worth Art League, Palms West Hospital, Lighthouse Gallery and Art Center in Tequesta and Oak Bistro and Wine Bar. Her paintings are also in many private collections.

The Wellington Art Society is a non-profit charitable organization In its 37th year. It is open to artists of all mediums and patrons of the arts, allowing both local and regional artists to display their art work in local galleries, interact with other artists and serve the community through their art.

Pat tells us, “I am inspired by the wonder of color. The transparency and spontaneity of watercolors gives life to my paintings. Here in Florida and other places I have visited, there is so much color all around you. When I observe the trees blowing in the breeze, the sunlight dancing off the leaves or the light shining through blossom petals, it inspires me to paint them and see if I can capture this dance of light.”   We love seeing her work on pillows, cutting boards, tiles and table tops as well as on walls!
