“What Lies Beyond” by Robin Wolfenden

“What Lies Beyond” is her entry for the All Florida Juried Art Show- original art print on metal- 16×24

Robin Wolfenden tells The Rickie Report, “After a fulfilling career as a wall covering designer, I’ve continued my artistic pursuits in a variety of mediums. My style is decorative, as I’m inspired by my surroundings and personal journey, creating a look full of light, color and optimism”.

Robin graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  She worked in New York in the garment district as a fabric designer before moving to Cleveland, Ohio with her husband to raise their family. Robin continued her career in fabric and wall covering, and by the 1980’s, she was head stylist for the high end wall covering division of Imperial Wallcoverings.

“Waterlilies” is an oil painting from Dennis Aufiery’s class- he said this was my break thru painting!

Robin began printing her wall coverings at a factory in Milan, Italy to insure the quality effect she desired. She says, “I travelled to Milan often to print my collections and attended design exhibitions throughout Europe. Jannelli & Volpi, an Italian wall covering company, then hired me as their stylist and North American Product Manager. In 2008, my husband and I retired to West Palm Beach, Florida, where I re-established my love for painting. I found the Armory Art Center and started taking art classes again, which I hadn’t done since college. I studied figure drawing and oil painting under Dennis Aufiery. I was introduced to the natural and intriguing qualities of mosaics. I then discovered Nihonga through Hiromi Katayama”.

“The Blossoming of the Gift” by Robin Wolfenden is 48×48 and hangs in the lobby of The Consulate at The Lands of the President- Nihonga

“Nihonga”, Robin explains, “is a Japanese style of painting which uses brilliant natural pigments that are made from pulverized semi precious stones which I grind by hand and mix with an animal based collagen from Japan. The pigments are applied in varying degrees of intensity and transparency. I began experimenting with them over a colorful textured acrylic base, which allows the colors to play against each other. I’ve begun adding my own pigmented and batik resist washi papers in a collage effect to add even more interest and dimension. I have had the unique opportunity to teach this process at the West Palm Beach Library”.

Robin Wolfenden at Continuum 2018

Robin’s journey continues as she further expand her art techniques by expressing her creativity through play. She relates, “I may dance and sing before painting to bring positive energy and excitement into my art. I have given myself the opportunity to play with color and explore new materials I hadn’t tried before.  My latest works were created as a result of a blindfolded painting experience where I painted freely with tempera paints. I created original prints from my palette, experimenting with viscosity and movement, positive and negative space, and color placement. The prints were enlarged and printed on a glossy metal to enhance their luminosity. These pieces were selected to be a part of the Continuum Art Fair in West Palm Beach in January and won the People’s Choice award”!

“Cascade” by Robin Wolfenden is a diptych- Nihonga

I believe in the beauty and power of personal expression. My artwork has been shown at the Armory Art Center, Rosenbaum Art Gallery in Boca Raton, and Armand Bolling Fine Art in Jupiter. It is included in private collections in Florida, New York, Arizona, Connecticut, and Tennessee. Currently my work can be found throughout the lobby of the Consulate at Lands of the President in West Palm Beach and in Nashville at Art & Invention Gallery and Modern Remains Design Atelier.

“Energy” by Deborah  Bigeleisen

Deborah  Bigeleisen grew up in Los Angeles and attended college at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she graduated with high honors.  Always entrepreneurial, and a risk taker,  Deborah was ahead of her time in establishing a global textile print design company in Manhattan where she served as the president and creative director for eighteen years.

Deborah moved to West Palm Beach in 1998, and started painting as hobby.   Without any formal fine art education, her talent was cultivated through local art classes and master artists workshops.   She was mentored by renowned visionary Gordon Parks, whom she was proud to regard as a good friend. Within two years Bigeleisen’s paintings were accepted into fine established galleries, thus launching  her second successful career as a fine art painter.  Deborah says that she found a voice inside that she never knew she possessed.

“Romantic Interlude” by Deborah Bigeleisen

Whether painting highly representational images, or more non-objective visions, Deborah Bigeleisen’s dynamic and evocative paintings of flowers stand alone in the contemporary fine art arena. Her technique is rooted in the practices of the Dutch master artists;  her conceptual work is rooted in the principles of fractals.  Never being content to stay in her comfort zone, Deborah continually pushes her vision.  She does not subscribe to rules.  “Every painting is a fresh beginning, and a new journey; and  I cherish the unpredictability.”

Deborah Bigeleisen and “Fractal”

Deborah’s work has been represented by fine art galleries from Aspen; to San Francisco, to Naples, FL; to Washington, DC; to Southampton, NY, and to New York City. Her paintings have been prominently featured in international Contemporary and Fine Art Fairs.  Her work has been widely published in journals and art books ranging from Science Creative Quarterly, to Michael K. Corbin’s trilogy ‘A Collector’s Journal,’ to New Art International and Studio Visit. Her paintings have graced the covers and interior pages of international interior design publications including Florida Design, Miami Home & Décor, Art and Antiques, LUXE Magazine, and Architectural Digest. Deborah’s work is collected world-wide and enhances the corporate collections of American Airlines, Beauté Therapies Inc., The Koury Corp., and LBC Design & Construction to name just a few. Her paintings have received awards, and have been exhibited in numerous museum shows including the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Platt / Bornstein Galleries at American Jewish University in Los Angeles, and the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Untitled Diptych by Deborah Bigeleisen

Bigeleisen enjoys sharing her knowledge by lecturing on various art related topics; conducting private tours of Art Basel and Art Miami during Miami Art Week every December; and leading private museums tours where her focus is on “looking at art through the eyes and mind of an artist.”  She has served as an artist in residence; conducts artist workshops, and is an adjunct professor of art at Palm Beach State College.

Deborah is a long standing member of the National Association of Women Artists and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County.  She served as chair person for Art and Public Places for the City of West Palm Beach for ten years.  She is an active member of Soroptimist International of the Palm Beaches; and a former board member of the Palm Beach County Women’s Chamber of Commerce. Deborah lives and works in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.

Ms. Bigeleisen’s paintings are sold through fine art galleries, and have been prominently exhibited in international Contemporary and Fine Art fairs including the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, ArtHamptons, the Chicago International Art Show, the LA Art Show, the Palm Beach Jewelry, Art and Antique Show and the Shanghai Art Fair. For more information, please visit  www.deborahbigeleisen.com.

The Wellington Art Society is a non-profit charitable organization in its 37th year. It is open to artists of all mediums and patrons of the arts, allowing both local and regional artists to display their art work in local galleries, interact with other artists and serve the community through their art.

Deborah Bigeleisen, “Big White Rose”

Deborah earned her degree in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and founded her own global print design company in Manhattan. After moving to Florida, she was eager to learn oil painting, “the medium of the Masters”. Early in her career, Deborah was represented by a local gallery where she painted beautiful roses using the techniques of the Dutch masters. Awed by the beauty, complexity and mystery of flowers, she continues to follow her passion.

Deborah Bigeleisen, “Energy”

Deborah’s discovery of fractals, the self-similar properties found within a single object of nature when viewed hundreds of times at different magnifications, has given rise to a whole new shift in her work to colorful abstract paintings. She plays warm hues against cool hues, working with a palette of up to eight colors and achieving an astonishing richness and depth in dark areas and luminosity in the highlights. She focuses on the movement, the energy in her brushwork, the color relationships and applies up to 20 coats of richly layered transparencies to each piece.

Deborah loves to share her knowledge by conducting International Art Fair tours and as an Adjunct Professor of Art at Palm Beach State College. Her award winning work has been featured on the covers and pages of numerous International art and design publications.  She is a member of  National Association of Women Artists, Cultural Council of Palm Beach County and Soroptimist International.

Deborah tells us, “In this short attention span, instant gratification, digitally driven culture we live in, I am asking viewers to put their devices down, to take the time to pause and really look at what is in front of them, look at what is around them, and to see and question more than meets the eye”.
