The public is invited to hear composer, Sheila Firestone present The Journey to Creating the Musical, “Miriam and the Women of the Desert” on Saturday, January 26 at the TeaLicious Tea House in Delray Beach, FL.  An active member of the Boca Raton Branch National League of American Pen Women, Sheila will share anecdotes about her visits to Israel, the twenty-two year span in creating this musical, plus the Biblical Miriam and the women who surrounded her. Join the Boca Raton Pen Women for a delightful afternoon, featuring a preview of some of the music from “Miriam and the Women of the Desert” and a delicious tea luncheon. Composer and Pen Woman, Sheila Firestone will present “The Journey to Creating the Musical, Miriam and the Women of the Desert.” Sheila will share anecdotes about her visits to Israel and the sights, sounds and visions that inspired her compositions. Her musical accomplishment, which took over twenty-two years to complete, is a fascinating story about Sheila, as well as the Biblical Miriam and the women who surrounded her.

Sheila is a prolific musician whose orchestral works have been performed at venues in the U.S. and internationally. She served as the Music Chair of the Boca Raton NLAPW since 2003, and was Branch President from 2014 to 2018.

A spiritual musical journey that speaks to the Exodus through the eyes of Miriam the Prophetess. Stories are drawn from Torah and from midrash. Miriam, the keeper of the well, the voice of the women, along with her brothers Aaron and Moses, leads the journey. Explores family relationships of mothers raising strong women, father’s influence, meaningful love relationships, offspring and generational heritage. As we wander through the desert searching for meaning, the cast of seven beautifully trained voices tells the stories of Miriam, Zipporah, Yocheved and significant others. Featuring Cantor David Presler as the Pharaoh. Book, lyrics and music by composer Sheila Firestone.

About The National League of American Pen Women:

The Boca Raton Branch of the National League of American Pen Women (NLAPW) is an organization of professional women in the arts – writers, artists and music composers. Established 43 years ago, the Boca Raton Branch is one of the largest branches in the country.

Members have opportunities to interact with other professional women and showcase their creative work in public forums. Workshops, art exhibits, lectures, music programs, competitions and special events are offered. The Branch supports the local community through outreach programs and scholarships awards.

The National League, headquartered in Washington, D.C, is the oldest women’s organization in the U.S. Throughout its 120-year-history, the NLAPW has attracted many prominent women to its rosters, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Pearl Buck, Erma Bombeck and Edna Hibel. “Meet And Greet The Artists” On December 22nd At Brewhouse Gallery Plus New Call For Artists

It’s Tea Time  for the Boca Raton Branch of the National League of American Pen Women.  Every October the Boca branch hosts an elegant Tea, inviting area female Artists, Authors and Musicians to come discover what being a member of Pen Women is all about. This serves as their annual recruitment for new members.


The Boca Raton Branch of the National League of American Pen Women is a prestigious organization of professional women in the Arts – Published Writers, Authors, Poets, Musical Composers and Award winning Artists. The Boca Raton branch is one of the largest in the country and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2015.



NLAPW’s corporate headquarters is based in Washington, D.C. in an historic building, once the residence of Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. It oversees branches all over the United States. The league boasts membership of such prominent ladies as Eleanor Roosevelt, Erma Bombeck, and Edna Hibel. Vinnie Ream, the only woman to sculpt President Lincoln from life, was an early member of NLAPW. Her statue of Lincoln now stands in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.



As a qualified member of Art, Letters or Music, each member is exposed to participation in Art Exhibits, Book Talks and various workshops. On the third Thursday of the month – from November to May – luncheons are held with interesting, informative speakers featuring the three Muses ~ Art – Literature – Music! Reservations are required for the Luncheons and Tea!

~ Tribute to Patricia Wilson ~


This year’s Tea will feature a Tribute to Patricia Wilson, who has served the Boca Raton Branch of NLAPW as a charter member for 37 of the 39 years the organization has been in existence. She has a lengthy resume, faithfully serving the Pen Women in various offices and capacities since 1977. In 1993, Pat was proclaimed Florida’s Pen Woman of the Year.



A retired newspaper columnist and freelance writer, Pat has always been involved in community and church activities in the city of Boca Raton, where she resides with her husband, Richard and daughter, Jennifer.  You will discover more about this illustrious lady at the Tea and in this year’s 2014-2015 Yearbook, which has been dedicated to her.
