Vicki Siegel in her studio

Vicki Siegel is a full time working artist who exhibits extensively. Her work can be found in private collections.  She has a BFA from the University of Illinois and studied MFA coursework at Tyler School of Art, Rome. Siegel is a Golden Artist Educator.  Vicki Siegel’s work combines painting and photography together.  She creates images that unite her fascination with the world around her with the physicality of paint. The photographers gaze allows her to observe and archive reality, while the paint flows from her subconscious to her brush in marks that are uniquely her own. Siegel says, “In my work I ask the viewer to engage by comparing what is photographic and what is paint, but also what is personal and what is universal”.

For three decades, Karen H. Salup has been intriguing audiences across the country with her paintings.  Her artwork has been featured in several galleries and exhibits through Florida and New York, including SOLO exhibits at Viridian and Jain Marunouchi Galleries.  Karen tells The Rickie Report, “As a painting evolves I am composing intuitive images that references lean to nature. There is a vocabulary that I have developed, consisting of visual poetry”.

“Birthday Celebration” by Karen H Salup

Using acrylic, watercolor, and pastels on canvas and paper, Karen creates a world that vibrates with bold colors and bright light paired with brushstrokes that evoke a strong sense of movement and energy.  Her paintings begin with a theme of nature, but invariably evolve into an imaginative creation that invites interpretation from the audience.  Karen’s work is influenced from Impressionism  to Deconstructionism  to Abstract  Expressionism.

“Swirl” by Karen H. Salup

She explains, “These terms such as markmaking, brushstrokes and gestures where known as idiosyncratic visual poetry by the Abstract Expressionist movement creating gestures that bring to the viewer; Forms, Texture, Color and Light”.

“Summer Fling” by Karen H. Salup

“My work is very much like a process. I find image secondary to the art making. Although abstract in nature, there is an underlying visual order that gradually seems to emerge. Working intuitively, I enter a realm of the unknown where there is more of a calling than any real choice. I seem to be forever altering and adjusting the core of the painting and some invisible reality that appears”.

“This self-imposed repetitive process as I build, erase and paint layers becomes a definite chaos through which the work evolves and it seems to return repeatedly to its beginning. With each revival to the surface, there are the mark markings, forms, subtleties and sensitivities that appear in my work”.   Karen is an active member of the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), Women in The Visual Arts (WITVA) and the Palm Beach Watercolor Society.

“Roses” by Patricia Schwimmer

Patricia is a Toronto native, and her childhood vacations were always spent at the beach. A recent move to Palm Beach Gardens, FL fulfilled her desire to live and work near the water. The natural beauty of the ocean and its surroundings have had a major impact on Schwimmer’s color palette and expressive brushwork.

Patricia Schwimmer’s painting highlighted in an article in Palm Beach Coastal Style Magazine. Chosen by 55 Design Street, Australian blogger

Patricia Schwimmer tells The Rickie Report, “I began my journey into abstraction a few years ago, after painting realism for many years. My work is very much about process. and somehow I am not satisfied unless the work has a history of layers. I am aware that it is the spontaneous and accidental marks that are the most exciting, whether they lend themselves to furthering the composition or create tension in the work. I long for a little disturbance in the overall calm of the composition…an area where the eye wanders that may not go with the rest of the painting and begs me to wonder why”.

Small work by Patricia Schwimmer

She understands that it is important that the piece be visually appealing as well as interesting enough to linger over, taking cues from her internal experience to sense when a painting is complete. She says, “Lately, with all the noise in the World, I am enjoying quiet shifts and soft colors in a painting; getting transported by nuances and the grace of being present to what comes. Painting has become a metaphor for living because if I am only willing to scratch the surface and do what is easy, the work will reflect that. An openness to tap into the deep waters of my creative stream will yield something much richer and way more interesting”.

“Lazy Circles in the Sky” by Patricia Schwimmer

Patricia Schwimmer has lead workshops in creative painting at various venues including The Georgian Bay School of Arts and the Chautauqua Institute. The natural beauty of the ocean and its surroundings have had a major impact on her color palette and expressive brushwork. Her work has been featured in numerous publications worldwide including Michelle Cassou and Stewart Cubley’s book “Life, Paint, and Passion.” She was featured at Art Palm Beach International, the 2016 Designers’ Show House in WPB, and in Nantucket Island through JF Art Gallery. Patricia is a featured artist at The MAE Gallery in Delray Beach, FL.

VICKI SIEGEL

Vicki Siegel’s work combines painting and photography together.  She creates images that unite her fascination with the world around her with the physicality of paint. Blending the two art forms is a process that results in images that are both real and imaginary.  The photographers gaze allows her to observe and archive reality, while the paint flows from her subconscious to her brush in marks that are uniquely her own. Siegel says, “In my work I ask the viewer to engage by comparing what is photographic and what is paint, but also what is personal and what is universal”.

About the Workshop

Lois Perdue tells The Rickie Report, “This class is even for those artists who have never attempted to paint in an abstract style before. With my guidance and the easy-to-explore, non-intimidating mini-format, even those who have only worked in a realistic style can paint an abstract painting! For those who have taken my mini-abstract workshops before and want to explore larger formats, please “go for it” in this workshop.

Expect to go home with at least ½ dozen 5 x 7 mini abstract paintings-ready to frame!! But this class though isn’t just about abstract painting:

“It’s about learning texturing techniques, building layers of glazes and paints to create dimensions and how to use your own failed paintings as collage to make your paintings sizzle!
