Stein pointedly chooses to focus on female figures, traditionally neglected in heroic and historic narratives. Also on exhibit, Stein’s 20 Spoon to Shell box sculptures combine the shell and spoon, metaphors for nourishment and protection in the context of women in the Holocaust, within an amalgam of mixed materials, words and associations.
