From February 17-23 several monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in India will visit Martin County and bring their teachings of ancient ways and beliefs that create the possibility of global peace, nonviolent conflict resolution, compassion and wisdom. Highlighting their trip is the creation of a Sacred Sand Mandala in the Martin Artisans Guild Palm Room exhibition space. The monks will share Tibetan culture and traditions, as well as offer us universal lessons on compassion and impermanence.

The Sacred Art Tour supports the 2,000 monks in Mundgod, India, with funds for their education, healthcare and nutrition. Handcrafts by Tibetan artisans will be offered for sale. The Martian Artisans Guild is comprised of professional artists from the county who have banded together to promote the arts in Martin County. Their yearly activities include the Martin County Open Studio Tour which is held the third weekend of January, numerous exhibitions, artist seminars, a county gallery guide, and other art related opportunities for artists and the general public. Their goal is to make Martin County an arts destination.

It takes a mix of artists, philanthropists, volunteers and leaders weaving together that gives the community a more vibrant, rich and colorful texture.

Beyond the nominees, the Arts Council and the mARTies committee also has several awards that are announced and named in advance of the ceremony. The categories were selected by the founding committee of the mARTies to recognize key elements that make an arts community vibrant and sustainable. The named awards represent a legacy of commitment to things such as arts education, corporate leadership and philanthropy. Visit our blog (martinarts.blog) to see past recipients of all the awards – a legacy that has grown to over 140 award recipients!

The mARTies are a signature event of the Arts Council of Martin County honoring outstanding artistic, voluntary and philanthropic achievement in Martin County which inspire a passion for and participation in the arts in our community. It takes a mix of artists, philanthropists, volunteers and leaders weaving together that gives the community a more vibrant, rich and colorful texture.  The Arts Council and the mARTies committee also announced several winners in advance of the ceremony. Rickie Report publisher, Rickie Leiter, was honored to be one of the jurors for two categories ( we’ve been sworn to secrecy).  We share the names of the honorees, ticket details and hope to see you there to support the arts!

Since 2003, the mARTies have been the premier celebration of the arts – performing and visual, and the people who help make them alive in our community.

The event could not be possible without hours of volunteer time from our dedicated committee members and with the financial support of our sponsors.
