Art Synergy has grown considerably since its inception and our volunteer staff and support has grown along with it. The organization, run by Rolando Chang Barrero and Ilene Gruber Adams, artists and advocates, holds several meetings yearly, open to the public, where we request help from the community to work with us in everything from planning, to finance hanging the shows. We look forward to another successful year and cannot thank the Lesters enough for the support they have shown us.

Kokó Brandão’s figurative forms magically capture the beauty of female portraiture – while creating art that is completely modern and original. Kokó is inspired by the graceful elegance of the female form. At times classically alluring, demure and provocative, her art has a pervasive sense of sophistication. Her signature use of expressive color as well as the dynamic application of paint on the canvas combines to create her uniquely recognizable style. The giveaway prize, a 40”x16” original acrylic painting on canvas titled “Gold” and valued at $850, will be on display in her booth where registration will also take place. This event is part of the 50th Anniversary commemoration of the Delray Art League and hosted by the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at Old School Square in Delray Beach on their 25th Anniversary.

Artists will have the opportunity to enjoy not only painting, but sharing their creativity with the public. To the viewer, this art form can be very exciting because it invites you into the sight, sound, and even smell of the artists’ world. The competitive side of the process pits artists against each other for prizes to be awarded at the end of a day of painting “en plein air” (outside on location).

Judges for the event will be Marisa Pascucci, Curator at the Boca Museum of Art; Violeta de la Serna, Regional Sales Manager for Plein Air Magazine; and Michele Byrne, Nationally Renown Plein Air Artist and Art Educator.

  • 8 to 9 am: Artists check in and stamping of canvases at the Crest Theater at Old School Square at 51 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL.
  • After check-in, artists may paint anywhere in the downtown area of Delray Beach. That includes the area within 4 blocks north or south of East Atlantic Avenue from Swinton Avenue to the Ocean Beach
  • Artists will be able to choose their own location from a thoughtfully compiled list of suggestions. Artists must paint within the competition boundaries and without the assistance of photographs. Any medium, except photography will be accepted.
  • 3-4 pm: Competing artists can turn in up to two framed, ready to hang artworks which will be displayed on the artist easel(s) under the Big Top Tent at Old School Square. Artworks must be completed by 3 pm and on display by 4 pm

The Plein Air Painting Locations:

In case of rain, there will be a list of covered locations where artists are invited to paint. Locations include marinas, historic buildings and monuments, gardens, architecture, ocean, intra-coastal waterway views, small shops and much more.

The Awards:

Cash awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place, Juror’s Recognition and Honorable Mention Awards Additional awards may be presented at the committee’s discretion.

STEVEN LLOYD

Steven tells The Rickie Report, “I started out doing custom paint work on motorcycles and vehicles and everything else in between. I attended an airbrush seminar in Charlotte back in 2004 and noticed an aluminum panel that someone had pinstriped. It caught my eye and I inquired about it and one thing has just led to another. The possibilites are just endless what you can do with this style of art”.

"Time2Burn" by Steven Lloyd

“Time2Burn” by Steven Lloyd

“One of the things that I notice that I feel separates me from other artists is my finish work. People look at my art and they think that it’s glass, but its actually clear coated metal. When you spend hours polishing a work of art to the point where someone thinks that it is glass, I know I have done what I set to accomplish!”

"Job" by Steven Lloyd

“Job” by Steven Lloyd

About the FREE Art Giveaway piece:

“This piece features aluminum grade sheeting that has been hand ground into several different background patterns. The colored portions of the art have been through a process that I designed called “pigment flotation” in which the coloring is floated in a flamable solvent and set on fire. Once the chemicals have burned off you are left with a one of a kind unique design! Other highlights are then added to create depth. The art is then clear coated and polished to perfection”.

"Modern Spectrum" by Steven Lloyd

“Modern Spectrum” by Steven Lloyd

Steve goes on to explain, “I call this type of work “Ground Metal Art”. It is a very rare and unique style of art, and is made up of aluminum grade sheeting and automotive urethane paint materials. Each work of art is a true one of a kind. My paintings are full of energetic flowing lines that love the reflection of light to create that ultra modern feel. The colored artwork is created using a transparent urethane paint system that resembles the look of a hologram. In the past recent months I have discovered a new style that I call “pigment flotation” in which I float the colored pigments and then set them on fire to create a very unique burnt effect on the panels. These pieces have become very popular and are best viewed up close to see the hidden details. Most of the art is clear coated several times for maximum protection”.
