Fantasy/ SciFi and illustration art has touched all of our lives, from mid century icons Norman Rockwell, Frank Frazetta, Walt Disney and on to the current field, possibly the best ever, and bound to be known as the golden era of Fantasy. We enjoy this genre, mainly because it’s fun. The “what if” factor is why fantastic visions become plausible. Disbelief is suspended and the rules change. Intricate detail, stunning realism with particular emphasis on anatomy show the difficult lengthy training and sacrifice that is necessary to accomplish this level, along with an imagination fully dilated as Alan Clark put it so well.

The owner of the collection says: ” These artists are all what I consider top tier, the best of the best, modern masters. This showing represents only roughly 25% of the artists whose works I hope to collect some day. Enjoy and discover. There will be magic in the air”.

Most of what you’ll see at the Summer Solstice Fantasy and SciFi Art Show are the originals of paid assignments e.g., book covers, commissioned pieces. Artists who work within this framework are sometimes denigrated by more “traditional” artists who consider these pieces “art for hire”. Nothing could be further from the truth.

An art director usually gives the artist an assignment list of features required on a piece, leaving lots of freedom for interpretation and that is where fantastic imaginations emerge. Heck even the Sistine chapel ceiling was a commissioned piece…
