Jean Williams is a vibrant creative hailing from western New York State, now living in Florida.  Her photography was published by The Palm Beach Post and hailed as a “million dollar shot“.  Now everyone can enjoy Jean’s SOLO photography exhibit at the Lake Park Library. Jean Williams takes the viewer on a journey around the world with her!  Jean’s photography was quoted by the Palm Beach Post as being a “Million Dollar Shot.”  She holds two Associates and one Bachelor’s Degree, is the author of several books, her own handbag and created her own bespoke perfume line.  Jean’s photography and books have been featured nationally and locally on television and radio. Her photographic venues range from Florida, North Carolina, New York City (Soho), to Dallas, TX in the United States.

There is a painting by her father. My other granddaughter Destiny, who is 14 years old, has an acrylic painting and an illustration in the book. Canadian born, Anne Abgott, maintains studios in Cortez, Florida and Linville, North Carolina. She is the author of the #1 Best Selling Book “Daring Color”, published by North Light Books. Anne is the past President of Florida Watercolor Society and the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society and is a long time member of the Board of Directors of Art Center Manatee in Bradenton, Florida and chairs their Education Department.

Premiere of John Bowen’s Illustrations and Book

John Bowen, a nationally known watercolorist who resides in South Florida, has compiled his drawings and experiences as an illustrator for the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.  The Rickie Report is proud to announce the availability of John’s book, “Eleven Months and Nineteen Days”.  Information about a special discount is in this article.

John Bowen’s book shares his experiences, some poignant as well as personal views and his illustrations during his deployment to Vietnam.   Since leaving the service,  John has worked as an advertising artist for the Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel.  He recently retired from the Sentinel in 2009 and has been working on this book for over 15 years, on and off.   It is finally ready to be published!  The Rickie Report is pleased to highlight John’s accomplishment, especially as we observe Memorial Day.

John commanded the Base Graphics Shop on a Sac Base in Texas.  Two years later, he received his orders to run a Headquarters Graphics Shop for the 834th Air Division, at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in South Vietnam.   
He tells us, ‘I spent many hours in the field and back at my duty section painting and drawing, documenting airlift operations for the Air Force.  This book is my story as an Air force Illustrator in Vietnam documenting the Airlift Delivery of troops and supplies for the allies during 1968. The book is enhanced with 43 drawings to put the reader there.”

Many of John’s drawings are displayed at the U.S.A.F. Academy in Colorado.  John is a Signature Member of the Goldcoast Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society. His works have been showcased in national publications and displayed in public venues, museums and galleries.

image-2Wilma Bulkin Siegel, M.D. graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1958 and received her medical degree in 1962 at Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania.   She has had a distinguished career as a prominent oncologist in New York City. In her career she was a pioneer establishing one of the first Hospices in the state of  New York and one of the first to accept AIDS patients.  
In the capacity of Medical Director of that Hospice she was asked to give her expertise on AIDS to the Presidential Commission in Washington. Following her retirement she combined medicine with her other childhood career target, painting, by attending The National Academy of Design.
Dr. Siegel has become an award-winning artist recognized nationally for her series of people living with AIDS, Survivors of AIDS, The Changing Faces of AIDS (Seniors), Breast Cancer Survivors, The Homeless, and the Elderly. Dr. Siegel has exhibited throughout the country, particularly in connection with events involved with AIDS and Cancer.

She has been featured on CNN television for her AIDS series and she has been elected into Who’s Who in American Art 2001. In the year 2005, April –October, she was 
featured in a one woman exhibition “Holocaust Survivors and Liberators” at The Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Her current passion is to bring art into the medical field as an educational tool and a forum for healing. In this new field of art in medicine she has been  instrumental in creating a program at U of Miami in Florida and Columbia Medical Center in NY City to bring artists to work with patients and also to teach medical students to see in a different way. She is a member of the Advisory Council of  Columbia Medical Center, New York City and the School of Nursing Drexel University, Philadelphia. In 2006 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters and was commencement speaker at Drexel University.
