S. Aaron Hopkins stopped at the Art Synergy booth during Art Palm Beach asking how to become more involved in the local art scene, as he was new to the area. He had come to the right place! In this article, The Rickie Report shares his good news of being accepted into a juried photography exhibit. He is an accomplished photographer whose work has been described as “gritty, vivid and humanistic. S.A. Hopkins will be showing his photography as part of the juried exhibit, “The World Through the Lens”. The show takes place at A Unique Art Gallery located in Jupiter, FL and is hosted by the Artists Association of Jupiter. The judge for this show is Durga Garcia.

Aaron tells The Rickie Report, “I can’t remember if there was a moment when I decided to become a photographer. I’ve been shooting since I had my first camera, a simple Kodak Instamatic. In fact, through the years, photography has been the one constant in my life.”

He goes on to share, ” I’ve spent nearly four decades walking around with my camera, taking pictures — or ‘making pictures’ as Ansel Adams once said. Many of my photographer friends refer to my work as ‘vivid, humanistic, gritty or sublime’. I will let you be the judge.”

Some of Aaron’s favorite work includes photos he made in downtown Miami and South Beach many years ago – before the glitz and glamour. He is fascinated by the contrast between then and now. He says, “As a published cartoonist and illustrator, I also look for more amusing juxtapositions, especially in my street photography.”

“What I hope my photography captures a moment of visual poetry. Sometimes it is a bit of irony, other times it is simply a face that catches my interest. I shoot with intention, but I’m often pleased with the accidental or unexpected that many arise. In the end, it is my hope that these photographs will make you think, feel ….and at least put your cell phone down for a few minutes.”
