On Sunday a “Think Tank” is expected to gather writers, visual artists, and curators to discuss the future of the space and the benefits to the community.

ALL FLORIDA Exhibition 2016, June 3-26, 2016 is a multi media exhibition and sale of exceptional work created and made by professional artists from the State of Florida. The All Florida Exhibition is the Inaugural Exhibition of the Box Gallery. VIP Reception and programing will be presented throughout the exhibition dates June 3-24, 2016.

*Some performances and presentations will be scheduled on June 3rd and 4th and/or on June 10-11, and/or June 17-18

All artists wishing to participate are required to submit an application to the The Box Gallery and must apply online.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

ALL FLORIDA EXHIBITION 2016 is open to all professional artists who reside and work in the State of Florida working in the following mediums:

• Visual Art: 2D, 3D ,4D (Kinetic-Movement , sound, light)
• Performance Art, Video, Film, and Musical Performance
• All work under 10 feet in height will be considered.
• Artist may be responsible for installation of their work depending on complexity.

All artists wishing to participate are required to submit an application and must apply online.

The non-refundable fee for the online application is $25
per submission as follows:
2D works one image per work
3D works 2 images per work

Kinetic work, sound installations, video, film, performance art, and music must send 1 link and support material.

The deadline to apply is May 1, 2016.

All work to be exhibited must be well conceived, expertly executed, and arrive ready to hang or professionally presented.
All work should reflect the individuality of the artist or group presenting.

NO GICLEES

Photography, lithographs, works created in series, etc must be numbered and accompanied by certificate of authenticity by artist.

Notification of acceptance to the exhibition will be sent via email on or before May 10, 2016.
All work must be delivered to The Box Gallery within 10 days of notification of acceptance and must be picked up from The Box Gallery on June 26, 2016.

Works not picked within a 10 day grace period; July 6, 2016, will incur a $10 storage fee starting from June 26 up to July 16, 2016 which must be paid at time of pick up. All work left after July 16, 2016 becomes the property of The Box Gallery and may be donated, sold, or dispersed of.

A contract and other forms will be sent to those accepted into the ALL FLORIDA EXHIBITION 2016.

About Young Artists Sister City Contest:

Each year, the Young Artists and Authors Showcase encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork and literature. All students must submit their work based on a designated theme that is announced each year. Artwork is sent from member cities to Washington, D.C. where a panel of judges selects the winners based on originality, composition, and theme interpretation.

This program is a great opportunity to reach out into the community and engage local English and art teachers, and reach a student audience that may not already be included in sister city programming. After the finalists for art and literature have been announced, they embark on a year-long tour hosted by local sister city programs on a monthly basis. This opportunity is available to any city and can help expand local youth programming.

This year’s theme, “Peace through People,” will commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Sister Cities International by celebrating 60 years of global citizen action and impact while looking ahead toward a better future where the world’s citizens can come together and find common ground, prosperity, and peace.

Bob Colacello: In and Out with Andy – Vanity Fair special correspondent Bob Colacello will discuss his new exhibition and his life with Andy Warhol, the brilliant, controlling, private, insecure, and influential man who continues to fascinate us. As the editor of Interview magazine from 1971 – 1983, Colacello photographed the glamorous world of Warhol’s circle of associates, the Factory office, star-studded parties and openings around the world, and captured images of Warhol in quiet moments at his most honest and vulnerable.

Dr. Milagros Bello, art historian, sociologist, curator and art writer and a graduate of the Sorbonne, will discuss the practices and purposes of Post-Conceptual Art, From the iconic Duchamp’s urinal, the mass produced objects of Pop Art or the singular simplicity of the Minimalists, artists of the 21st century have critically stretched the margins of aesthetics. This lecture examines the works of Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Maurizio Catelan to Wangechi Mutu, among others, who have created new notions of contemporary art.

Hidden Books: The Art of Kumi Korf – screening and discussion

Directed by Sam Hampton and produced by Kirsten Hampton, “Hidden Books: The Art of Kumi Korf,” is a 30-minute documentary about the Japanese-born artist, Kumi Korf whose art involves several disciplines: architectural design, printmaking, painting, papermaking and artists’ books. The film a unique perspective on her life and how the world around her influences her work.

Pilchuck: A Dance with Fire – moderated by Paul Fisher
The film explores how the Pilchuck Glass School, a small art center in the Pacific Northwest woods of Stanwood, Washington, became the largest glass art center in the world. Founded by iconic figure Dale Chihuly and a few art school friends in the counterculture days of the early 70s, the Pilchuck Glass School pushed the boundaries from its very beginnings. Philip Ross Munro is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris and has a background in Engineering from McGill University in Montreal and Digital Media from City College in San Francisco. Mr. Munro’s career spans more than thirty years and his current studio is a 4000 sf warehouse in the Design District of Miami Florida He is known for his paintings and photography of shadows, underwater figures and series investigating the human balance and perception. During the last twenty five years Munro has shot underwater images in natural bodies of water; using uncontrolled situations and everyday people instead of professional models. This production reveals the artist as a ‘Documentarist’: an observer of mind / body relationships to circumstance. He chronicles the nuances of human comprehension and situation, exposing sensuality in a delicate balance.

Adam Collier Noel is an internationally collected artist who graduated from Herron School of Art & Design where he received his Bachelor of fine arts degree in photography. Adam is currently working from his studio in south Florida and exhibiting work in Indianapolis, Fort Lauderdale, Calgary and Key West.

Pat Swain’s “Lost Flamingos in the Cloud Forest Series”

Pat Swain leans towards the quirk and tribulations.  She is an award-winning photographer whose work has been shown extensively around the world. Among the many publications where her photographs and digital art have appeared are Leonardo (MIT Press), the New York Times, Digital Fine Art, Spin Magazine, New York Magazine. She holds a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute and an M.A. from Columbia University. She has taught digital imaging at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She lives and teaches in New York City.

Paul Solvay (New York). Solvay’s Barbie and Ken Series explores and celebrates the once taboo alternative unions seen as an affront to the Ozzie and Harriet days of past.  A whimsical, yet meaningful the work evokes a lighthearted gaze into a harmonious world we all get to love.

Joanne Urban’s formal training began with film and the wet darkroom, she now utilizes digital capture and Photoshop in the digital darkroom. Joanne creates in-camera images with her assorted digital cameras and camera-less images with her flat bed scanner. Her work reflects the aesthetic of the traditional black and white darkroom processes. Drawn to detail, simple composition, texture and pattern, her imagery is a visual and emotional response to the commonplace.  In addition to producing her own award winning work, Joanne offers services such as custom printing, and photographic retouch and restoration. She also teaches the camera-less technique and Photoshop for photographers.

Greatly known for his erotic nudes, Ali Miranda’s work is often featured in both local and national publications, covering a broad spectrum in the photography field from commercial to fine-art. A native of the Miami area, Ali established himself as a photo artist in South Beach during the late 80s and up to the present.  He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Academy of Arts College of San Francisco and also attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and Chicago. Ali’s work has been exhibit in various galleries and collected by art patrons around the world.

The Palm Beaches will be vibrating with art when ArtPalmBeach returns on January 20, 2016 to celebrate its 19th year at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The fair will feature 85 international exhibitors, installation projects, art video labs, and SCULPT Palm Beach featuring a major large scale public art sculpture on the Palm Beach County Convention Center entrance plaza.  Art Synergy in collaboration with ArtPalmBeach will produce more than 65 exhibitions, January 15 – 30th throughout the nine Palm Beach County Art Districts during Art Palm Beach week. CONTINUUM is a pop-up art exhibition by Art Synergy in the Arts & Entertainment District in downtown West Palm Beach that takes place during ArtPalmBeach Week. Jan. 21 to Jan. 30 at 522 Clematis Street.

The Armory Center will be featuring three exhibitions during Art Palm Beach Week “The Women of Vision”, Rising Waters: an exhibition of recent works by Mags Harries and River: an installation by Mags Harries and Lajos Heder. “The Women of Vision” will feature sculpture, painting, photography, ceramics and mixed media. Rising Waters is an exhibition by Boston based artist Mag Harries it is an ironic and poignant commentary on the dilemma of “Rising Waters”-our inability to grasp it on an individual level and our societal refusal to deal with the effects of global warming already so evident in South Florida. River, the installation by Boston based artists Mags Harries and Lajos Heder of water, light, and shadow creates an apparition of a river from one bucket of water. January 16- February 12, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts will be featuring a glass blowing demonstration with contemporary glass artist Laura Donefer. Donefer has been a driving force in the Canadian glass movement for 18 years, she has curated many exhibits to show Canadian work including a major one in Tucson, Arizona entitled “North of the Border”.  Partners in this venture are McMow Art Glass and Habatat Galleries.  Artists will be selling their hand made fine crafts from 2 – 9 pm.

Bold Beauty Project, ArtPalmBeach has partnered with the Bold Beauty Project and famed photographer Robert Zuckerman to bring the Bold Beauty Project photography exhibit to Art Palm Beach 2016. This innovative visual arts event showcases women who dare to expose their disabilities. The models boldly face the photographer’s lens, and through the process, they uncover their beauty, sensuality and strength to break the molds of conventional beauty.

FOTOfusion at the Palm Beach Photographic Centre is the International Festival of Photography and Digital Imaging. In its 21st year it will feature Portfolio Reviews by 100 Experts, Mini FOTOshoots, seminars & panel discussions, hands-on computer labs, multimedia presentations, photography & digital art exhibitions, book signings & gallery walks and fuse and schmooze parties. Whitespace Collection: Collectors Breakfast featuring artist Rita Montlack and her exhibition “XXL Photographs; A Historical Survey of Contemporary Photography”. This private collection art exhibition space will be open to the public for the annual Art Palm Beach Collectors Breakfast and viewing of this private collection and featured exhibition January 24, Breakfast- 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, collection will remain open until 4:00 p.m. Whitespace will also have a booth at ArtPalmbeach in the Convention Center.

Norton Museum of Art will be exhibiting Vincent van Gogh’s “The Poplars at Saint-Rémy , the piece was painted in the same community, and in the same year, as The Starry Night, during a period when van Gogh was hospitalized. Additionally, the Norton will be exhibiting the “Portrait of Mademoiselle Hortense Valpinçon”, which has been rarely – if ever – been exhibited in the southeast United States.

Society of the Four Arts Exhibition on Screen: “Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs” Hailed as the most successful exhibition in Tate Modern’s history, you can now catch “Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs” at the Four Arts”, featuring exclusive new footage from The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Acclaimed British actor Simon Russell Beale brings insight and emotion to the words of Henri Matisse himself, while actor Rupert Young (Merlin) narrates. Saturday, January 23, 2016 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., at the Society of the Four Arts.

Boca Raton Museum of Art presents Dames: Portraits by Norman Sunshine. During a period of convalescence when he could not paint as he once was able to do, Sunshine delved into the digital world of art making and searched for subjects of style and substance. In doing so he was taken with notable women; their poise, their composure, and their self-assurance. Among those who have posed for him are art patron Agnes Gund, philanthropist Nancy Kissinger, and Anne Sutherland Fuchs, former publisher of Vogue, Woman’s Day, and Elle.

The Lighthouse ArtCenter: “The Manoogian Collection: Two Centuries of American Art”. Considered to be one of the most significant private collections of American art compiled during the 20th century. The hot new place to be this season is located in an Historic FEC Train Depot building in the heart of the City of Lake Worth, Florida. The 14,000 square foot Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts is attracting hundreds of interested people to its brand new hot shop. With three glory holes and two furnaces they have been scheduling back-to-back classes ever since they reopened in October.

Throughout the summer, Founder, JB Berkow along with Anita Holmes, Executive Director and Rick Eggert, Creative Director have worked hard to design an impressive line up of programming for the upcoming season.  They have four outstanding, world renowned Visiting Glass Artists coming to the center in 2016. These events will be three-day affairs. Thursday nights will be a private sit-down-dinner party where the artist will talk about their processes and inspirations. Friday nights will be a gallery opening centering around the visiting artist’s works and featuring two dimensional works by local artists.

Finally, Saturday will be an afternoon demonstration by the visiting artist. Never before has there been this type of opportunity for Palm Beach County residents to meet and greet four of the top glass artists in the world and have the rare chance to learn about their processes, inspirations and actually see them creating. The first of these events will coincide with the Lake Worth Art Synergy Event, which the Benzaiten Center is hosting for the second year in a row. Last year they had 32 local artists and organizations taking part in a mini-art-fair within the empty 5,000 square foot space of the building that will eventually house their fine art metal foundry. This year the highlight and kick-off to the event will be world-renowned glass artist, Laura Donefer, conducting a glass-blowing demo from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, January 23. After that, will be an Art Synergy Awards Ceremony. Festivities will continue until 8pm with live music, light nibbles, wine and beer and is open to the public free of charge.

They also have a stimulating series of lectures every first Tuesday of the month from 6pm – 8pm. Every second Wednesday of the month they hold a Hump of the Hump Happy Hour from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in the evening featuring a glass blowing demo, wine, beer, and live entertainment. There are several fundraisers planned for the 2016 season including their signature event, ‘Glasstronomique,’ a ‘Casablanca Casino Night,’ and a cocktail party in the home of a major glass collector. They will also hold a community ‘Summer Solstice’ party in June. Again, check  website for dates, times and registration details.

Juan Antonio Gonzalez, better known as Erman, has lived in the United States since 1969. Erman works include mixed-media installation consisting of a variety of works continuing his thematic concentration of migration, trans-culturism, exile, and displacement. Using utilitarian methodologies such as assemblage, cut paper, ceramics, and sewing, and utilizing post production, recycled, and donated goods.

James Rabidoux is a prolific abstract artist, whose creations bring the viewer close-up to the art work.  Why?  Because his paintings have hidden words tucked within the mysterious designs.  People delight in looking at them, seeing meaning that they themselves bring to James’ art.  His colors are usually bright, though we’ve seen some newer, muted tones.  No matter – they enthrall!  The Rickie Report shares a few sneak peeks of James’ SOLO Exhibition at the Weisman Delray Community Center.  This Exhibit is Free and Open to the Public!  We urge you to stop by because we know you’ll be captivated, too!  The Opening Reception takes place on  Thursday, September 17th.  All the details are in this article.

“Life” by James Rabidoux

“Play” by James Rabidoux

James Rabidoux is a prolific abstract artist who began his art career as a graphic designer.  A graduate of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, FL, he was one of the top highest portfolio scorers.  He also attended Xavier University (Cincinnati, OH), studying Communication Arts Radio and Television. James is a trained Illustrator and Fine Artist with an outstanding portfolio of work showcasing successful global proposals.  After a 35 year award wining career in the high-end marketing and advertising world, James has retired to work on his original passion, painting. Using words and communicating are clearly part of James’ DNA!

“Fix” by James Rabidoux

James has taken these professional skills and brought them to his creative artistry, bringing smiles, humor and philosophical motes to his admirers.  Clearly, his skills of layout design, logo work, photography and TV commercial’s photo montages show in his current work. James works predominantly in the medium of painting, but includes Pen and Ink drawings as the stepping stone towards the larger acrylic and India ink paintings.

James is known for his “word paintings”.  He tells The Rickie Report, ” My WORD paintings start with the word it is named for… I write the word a few or many times on a blank canvas. Then I just start painting. There is no hidden message unless you find one just for you.”

He goes on to say, “Where’s Waldo?” Nope, the words are just a starting point and I’ll never run out of material.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!”  James began creating this genre of artwork about 5 years ago, when he was frustrated with a daily life-situation.  To distract himself, he wrote the word down on a piece of paper.  Then he began to paint it.

James is now using phrases as well as individual words in his art work.  Enjoyment is the key to understanding James’ body of work!  HE enjoys creating as much as WE enjoy adoring, sharing and owning his artistry!

James has also illustrated and authored a children’s book, “I Can Exercise My Face”.  It is available exclusively for Kindle on Amazon.com.  If you are looking for a way to bond and interact with your kids, this is for you!  He says, “Parents: if you are sick and tired of re-reading the same old bedtime stories, you need this book! You’ll laugh so hard, your face will hurt!”

James Rabidoux’s artwork brings smiles or joy, grins of understanding and meaning to a complex world.  He paints every day in his studio in Ocean Ridge, FL.   His work can be found at the following Galleries and Exhibitions:
