The Clark Hulings Fund for Visual Artists (CHF) announces its Art Business Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, inspiring visual artists to “Conquer the Changing Marketplace.” This weekend long business development workshop will give professional working artists the chance to take a deep dive into the business side of their art careers. Scheduled for February 1 and 2, 2019, the event is funded in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners through the Broward Cultural Council. The event manifests CHF’s assertion that “Art is a business and artists should run it.” With the art market undergoing rapid and significant change—not only with regard to technology but also HOW art is marketed, bought, and sold—artists need to reclaim their rightful position at the center of the industry. Charles Bane is an alumnus of both the Bak and Dreyfoos Schools. An incredibly skilled, multimedia artist, his teaching style has gained impressive popularity with students of all ages.  He teaches classes at Jerry’s Artarama in W. CB:

Currently, I’m a student at FAU and plan to work at a finance firm after passing the Series 7 & 66 exams.  My artwork is really me just experimenting. Depending on the day, I’ll explore abstract… although lately I’ve been having fun with Liechtenstein-inspired paintings exploring depression in super heroes.

TRR:  Please share some details about your prep classes at Jerry’s Artarama

CB:

 My classes at Jerry’s Artarama in W. Palm Beach are a Bak/Dreyfoos prep class. Instead of exploring the different points of the audition with an equation for the kids to follow, I push their critical thinking and abilities so the auditions seem easy.

Normally, I use massive still lives, fast paced gesture drawings, and monster paper sculptures.

TRR:  What is the main focus of the class?

CB:

 

It’s all about critical thinking and pushing problem solving skills. This way, no matter the level they’re on, they can stay in a comfort zone and move forward.

The auditions are an endurance test. Most of my students stay with me from the year before their audition up until the actual audition.

 

 

 

TRR:  Do you have any help hints to share with us?

CB:

Honestly, a sketchbook can be a student’s best friend. I always tell my students to keep drawing.

The classes are on Saturdays. There is a $15.00 fee and all are welcome. I’ve had adults  who just needed a refresher on drawing.
