Jan Stein Bringing Pets And Art Together, Celebrates Special Paintings, Posh Pet Hotel and Whimsical Pet Sculptures

“Cat’s Meow and ARF Art” is being introduced by West Palm Beach-based (Baby Boomer/CreativeAging) Artistic Consulting Professional Jan Stein. She remains true to her several passions: 100% Visual Art; loving pets, and involving multi-generational professionals.  The Pet Posh Hotel ( PPH), Paint-On-Picture (P-O-P) and “Cat’s Meow and ARF Art” come together as we celebrate National Arts & Humanities Month (October) and National Cat Day (October 29th).  Within this article, The Rickie Report shares unique art-related and special pet-related gift ideas.

Since 1993, October 1-31 has been proclaimed as “National Arts & Humanities Month”.  As productive Baby Boomers, this generation is being increasingly recognized as America’s Creative-Aging (60+yrs.) entrepreneurs. Jan Stein tells The Rickie Report, “Maybe for the first time, to satisfy “freedom of expression,” and/or for financial need-based pre-retirement income, millions of fellow Boomers continue to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their personal lives and business endeavors”.

Jan tells us, “POSH PET HOTELIER (PPH) Lincoln Baker, his wife Stacey and Artist/Gallerist Shelia Payne for “going to the dogs, and for being the cat’s meow,” in a “paws-a-tively” entrepreneurial style. When the Bakers and Payne embraced the suggestion to integrate Visual Arts (making and appreciating) into their business models, we combined our goals with unique Visual Arts products for a timely collaboration that launched a seasonal sales offering that celebrates National Arts and Humanities Month, and National Cat Day, upcoming October 29th”.

“A smARTistic Poodle, whose business it is to walk small fiberglass pooches, depicts Sheila’s hyper stylistic pet-specific style. Payne’s whimsical art prompts miles of smiles from PPH’s pet-loving-artsy-appreciating human clients and staff. Payne’s sculpture is a key artistic that augments PPH’s service-based business. The sculpture enhances the reception decor, which also includes a hand-crafted feline tower, designed by Stacey Baker’s dad, which is for sale”.

How Does It Work?

1. Clients send me their high resolution digital files  emaginate@gmail.com their (any subject…wedding, kids, pets; nature/travel; memorial, etc). If you have a hard copy, traditional photo,  it will be scanned scanned and digitized

2. Our print master reviews your file(s) in order to qualify clarity, contrast and color saturation.

 3. Once qualified as a clear image, if there are color corrections needed, backgrounds modified, stuff removed, or if hairs flying that you want removed, etc., our print master and I will consult with you before moving forward.

 4. Our print master uses professional EPSON equipment with liquid ink to print your image on a poly-cotton quality art canvas.
 5. After it has dried, your giclee is sent to one of our professional artists.

6. This is where the magic happens….the canvas is stretched by hand, over wooden stretcher bars that are built by hand…using art brushes and acrylic paints, our Visual Art professional hand paints accents on the canvas surface.  This artist will add accents/highlights, but does not alter faces, or the main picture. Additions of embellishments and texture remain true to YOUR picture.

 7. 16″ x 20″ (horizontal/or vertical) is $600.00 plus tax plus Fed Ex cardboard art container and shipping/insurance. (Cost to ship is based on zip codes within Florida are approximately $40-60).

 8. Turn around time (considering printing, mailing, painting, clear coat drying, framing, shipping is 2-3 weeks, during holiday season).  Larger dimensions are available and options such as having the artist paint accents or only having clear coat are possible and will priced accordingly.

9. We use Golden brand Acrylic paints, which don’t fade, crack, peal or yellow and a Protective Clear Coat, which is applied by hand.  This helps with UV exposure, but we suggest you do not keep any artwork in sun light.  Gloss or semi-gloss are options.  Frame: Basic white or black wood with a decorative thin silver outline.

10. Your artwork is installation ready: easy to hang, with “d” rings and coated wire. You’ll need a 15 lb hook.

TRR:  Tell our readers how you started focusing on pet portraits

NF:

I’m inspired by Calvin Nichols, who creates magnificent paper sculptures. His intricate animal pieces come to life as they jump out of their mat. You’re intrigued and really want to touch the softness of their fur. I really appreciate and adore his sophisticated white sculptures and talent. We have something in common, patience.  After closely studying his work, I have begun to incorporate fine details in mine. Calvin’s influence has developed my animal portraits to a totally new level. I’ve decided to utilize my paper sculptures to display the love that pet owners have for their beloved pets. They love their furry family members like children.
The Initial Sketch

The Initial Sketch of “Riley”

I produce unique artwork that will be cherished forever. Their pet pops out in 3D as I lovingly cut the precious pet’s alluring portrait from their photo. Each piece is marvelously displayed in a 12 x 12 classy black shadow box. Prices start at $300.I’ve developed two styles of portraits, using a picture of my neighbors’ shitzu, BeeBop as a sample. My basic design is comprised of larger pieces of textured paper with limited detail. I’m interested in focusing on deluxe portraits that are very detailed, which means I may spend 15 hours just cutting alone.

BeeBop has appeared in several shows. Jason Freeman saw BeeBop and he immediately knew that this was the memorial he had been looking for after loosing Weenie several months before.

Jason exclaimed, “Nina created the perfect tribute to our Weenie.  Weenie’s paper art portrait hangs in a place of honor on our living room wall and it truly feels like our Weenie is with us once again.  Friends and family, who knew Weenie, are absolutely amazed when they see the piece – its not just a dachshund, it truly captured the essence of Weenie and everyone immediately recognizes that it is her.  Every day when we pass the art piece, I smile a bit – feeling our precious Weenie looking back at us once again.”

I’m currently working with vets, animal hospitals, groomers, doggie daycare and pet cremations centers. I am member of The Association For Pet Loss And Bereavement and pet loss support.

I belong to several art associations, and was ecstatic when I receive an invitation from See.Me to exhibit up to three images of my work within the newly installed digital exhibition room of their New York City gallery. The show opens on Thursday, July 25h and will run through the Tuesday September 10th. See.Me is an international community of over 700,000 artists. Less than 1% of the membership was chosen for this show. I feel honored and excited!

Nina Fusco’s paper sculpture passion began 20 years ago. Self-taught, she creates 3D paper sculptures by manipulating the flat surface of paper to give it life. She cuts, scores and bends the paper to create her 3D paper sculptures. Nina explores the contrast between light and dark shadows in her 3D paper sculptures. Numerous 3D paper sculpture creations by Nina, utilize hands to send a message of love, hope and working together to reach new heights. Nina’s awarding winning 3D paper sculpture pieces, collages, pencil drawings and photography have been exhibited in Palm Beach County galleries.
