On Thursday evening, Oct. 20th at 7 PM, we will have the pleasure of having Board Member Anita Lovitt demonstrate a technique she is exploring with masking fluid. Anita has been teaching classes in watercolor at the Armory Art Center. She also instructs small painting groups in private homes.

Ms. Lovitt worked in New York City for many years as an illustrator before deciding to concentrate on painting. A highlight of that period was working at the New York Shakespeare Festival, which sparked an interest in set design. That knowledge came in handy when she created the huge “Dancing Pineapples” Art in Public Places mural in downtown Delray Beach.

“Waiting Patiently” by Susan Hanssen

After a long career as an art director in New York and Dallas, Susan and her husband moved to Florida in 1999 and there she began to paint. She works primarily in watercolor and gouache. Her paintings are generally figurative, although recently she has been exploring non-objective painting. Her “Sheep Series” continues to be a favorite, combining allegory and whimsy in a variety of executions. The collection, “On the Subject of Sheep” was exhibited at the Coral Springs Museum of Art in March of 2008. The show ran three months and included 17 paintings. A painting from the series, “She’s Come Undone”  was part of the National Watercolor Traveling Exhibition  in 2009.
