Delray Art League Announces Next Meeting Featuring JoAnn Nava, Numerous Exhibits And Call For New Members

The Delray Art League (DAL) invites you to their next monthly meeting on November 9th. JoAnn Nava will present and demonstrate. For over 30 years, JoAnn used her painting skills in the trades of decorative painting, murals, faux finishing and restorations. The result is visible in the painting she’s been producing in her fine art. Manipulating latex house paint has challenges different from acrylic and oil. It is a visual language all its own. In this demonstration, a painting will be created from a limited color palette. Viewing artists will see the advantages of using this medium by itself or as a substrate for other mediums.  The Rickie Report shares the details about this event and upcoming exhibits.  DAL is a terrific artist networking organization.  Stop by !

LOCAL CONNECTIONS:

LOCAL COMPANIES BRING REAL-WORLD INNOVATIONS TO BOYNTON BEACH KINETIC ART EXHIBIT!

The International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium, which will be held Feb. 6-8, 2015, in Boynton Beach is designed to connect visitors and participants to one-of-a-kind visual experiences.  Contributing toward that goal will be Boynton Beach-based Boca Bearings and Flipstone Technology’s HackLab, which will each bring real-world technical innovations to the weekend event.
In addition to highlighting their line of ball bearings, roller bearings and linear bearings, which are used by kinetic artists to create their work, and educating the public on how bearings work, Boca Bearings will have multi-rotor and 3-D printing demonstrations at the event. Similar to a hybrid helicopter because it is a multi-rotor aircraft, these small, radio controlled flying machines are being used increasingly for aerial photography and surveillance. 3D printing is an additive manufacturing process that creates three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The object is created by laying down consecutive layers of material until the entire object is created.

“Bussola”  by  Jennifer Townley

http://vimeo.com/93011435

(http://tinyurl.com/olrhtqm), Kinetic artist Jennifer Townley will exhibit her entry, “Bussola,” which is named after the Italian word for “compass,” as this three-dimensional work was inspired by one of Leonardo da Vinci’s designs for a compass dating from 1514. The skeleton-like structure seems to behave like a natural organism that slowly moves forward through space.

Flipstone Technology’s Hacklab North Boynton:

Flipstone Technology’s nonprofit organization, Hacklab North Boynton, is dedicated to making the community more aware of real-world technological innovations. (http://tinyurl.com/mpysss2) In keeping with this commitment, Hacklab  North Boynton is bringing its interactive “Daft Booth” to the International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium. Based on the sound booth used at the 2014 Grammy Awards by by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk, the “Daft Booth” is an interactive soundboard that incorporates musical samplings of the duo.  Buttons, light and sound are meshed together in such a way that anybody can use the booth to turn themselves into their own DJ.

Sarah Younger, a 2013 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium “People Choice Award” winner, has partnered with Hacklab North Boynton to offer free public workshops Jan. 10 and 24, 2015, on how to work with technologies and build renewable energy art forms. Completed projects will be showcased at the International Art Exhibit and Symposium. For more information, visit www.LampInfo.org; emailLampInc@comcast.net; or on Facebook at Living Arts Meta Programs.

MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT TO KINETIC ART:

The exhibit and symposium also leaves room to connect with kinetic art through educational presentations both days. Presenters include working kinetic artists and educators Paul Daniels, Behnaz Farahi, Jay Flanzbaum, Angus Forbes, Jerzy Kedziora, Cory Oliver, Ralfonso, Nancy Schiffer, and Rein Treifeldt. They will cover the historical, present and future of kinetic art.

Kinetic Connections

There will be interactive participation in many of the displays. For example, visitors are invited to meet artist Elayna Toby who has transformed an old tree into a kinetic sculpture.

Kinetic-Connections conecpt tree.ElaynaTobyArt

Meet Me At The Tree!

A compilation video about the hundreds of community contributed items that make up Kinetic-Connections will be featured adjacent to the transformed tree during the 2015 International Kinetic Art Exhibition and Symposium from February 6-8, 2015.

Kinetic-Connections will be a temporary piece taken down at the end of the symposium, leaving the tree in its original state, as if untouched. The strands, inspired by and generated from the community, will then be “recycled” back into the world, made available for sale as decorations for home or garden. A portion of the proceeds from sales of these strands will benefit the City of Boynton Beach Art in Public Places program and Resource Depot.

Kinetic Solar Butterflies

Kinetic Solar Butterflies

Visitors can also learn about solar energy and construct dancing solar butterflies that will join hundreds of other solar butterflies on exhibit at the City’s Schoolhouse Children’s Museum. There’s an opportunity to become your own DJ by using the buttons, lights and sounds in HackLab North Boynton’s “Daft Booth,” inspired by the Grammy Award winning group Daft Punk.

Complementing these activities will be original projects such as an outdoor kinetic dance performance by Boytnon Beach Community High School’s dance academy. Students from Ft. Lauderdale’s Central Charter School will exhibit their maquette and marketing plans for their solar tree project.

SolART

Educational component of the International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium.

Central Charter School of Boca Raton, Florida will participate in the International Solar Tree Kinetic Art Sculpture program created by International Kinetic artist Rein Triefeldt.

When the Arts Commission was forming their visioning plan their goal was to deliver an art event that transcended typical art fairs, brought international attention to the City of Boynton Beach, educated and engaged the public in the arts.  Ralfonso shared similar goals and was often approached by educators to speak to students about how Kinetic Art is made. Ralfonso brought his experience with kinetic art projects. He collaborated with universities in China and Sweden to integrated the creative disciplines such as sculpture, engineering, science, physics, fabrication and the environment to create dynamic kinetic art sculptures.  These have been huge successes and a learning experience for all involved.

Kinetic Art organization co-founder,  Rein Treifledt who has created functional solar driven kinetic art throughout the Nation and now Internationally was introduced to the collaborative.  Rein’s interdisciplinary curriculum is the exact focus for integrated based  learning that is now becoming a National standard.  He has been working with professors at Drexel University to incorporate his Kinetic Solar Art curriculum into the national school systems.
