Art Synergy/Art Forms Features 15 Artists At Art Boca Raton’s International Art Fair

Art Synergy/Art Forms is proud and excited to be a part of Art Boca Raton for the second year.  Over 50 artists applied and were juried by James Lancel McElhinney, a renowned artist, writer, and curator from New York. Fifteen artists were selected to exhibit in Art Synergy/Art Forms.  The public is invited to this International Contemporary Art Fair March 16, 17, and 18th at the International Pavilion of the Palm Beaches at the Research Park on the grounds of Florida Atlantic University. The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks!

Art Boca Raton returns to the Research Park at FAU for its second edition. This dynamic contemporary art fair from the organizers of Art Palm Beach offers collectors a new approach to collecting fine art. Art Synergy is a 501(c)(3) art organization.

Juror’s Statement: March 3, 2017

Sir Alec Issigonis is said to have defined a camel as a horse, designed by committee. Exhibition curators assemble bodies of work, while juried shows are selected from bodies of work the juror did not assemble. The challenge then is to find some kind of hypothetical logic that would allow the juror to create a selection that might have been curated.

In today’s world, polemics of style or taxonomies of media have passed their sell-by date. In the digital age, objects created to engage the viewer and stimulate a response find sudden unity in sharing the distinction of physicality. The question becomes not just one of craft, or even of originality, but how thoughtfully the artwork manifests a sense of purpose, generates an encounter, and delivers an experience. My selection focused on works engaged less in exposition, and more in exploring processes associated with close scrutiny, travel, gender, identity, crisis, sexuality,and mass-media. It was a pleasure to spend time with all of the entries, and equally difficult to narrow the selection from fifty to fifteen—the limit set for accepted entries. My hope is these selections will benefit from their dialogue.

Call To Artists For Next Exhibition At Palm Beach International Airport

It’s here!  The new Call to Artists for the next exhibition at Palm Beach International Airport and a new application process!  Ellen E. Roberts, Curator of the Harold and Anne Berkley Smith of American Art at the Norton Museum of Art, will be the guest judge. The exhibition runs December 9, 2015 – April 6, 2016.  Submittal deadline is November 20, 2015, 4pm.  Application and Jpeg(s) are now accepted online, however $20 Application Fee cannot be paid online.  The Rickie Report shares the details and urges all Palm Beach County artists to apply!  Artwork sells and the artists keep 100% of the sales generated.  There will be a public reception on March 2nd from 5:30-7:30 pm to meet and mingle with the artists.

JUDGE

Ellen E. Roberts, Curator of the Harold and Anne Berkley Smith American Art at the Norton Museum of Art, will be the guest judge for this exhibition.

One of Ms. Roberts current projects is development of the exhibition O’Keeffe, Stettheimer, Torr, Zorach: Women Modernists in New York which will open in February 2016. Before coming to the Norton in 2012, she was assistant and then associate curator of American art at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she contributed to numerous exhibitions and catalogues including Edward Hopper, American Modernism at the Art Institute of Chicago, Apostles of Beauty: Arts and Crafts from Britain to Chicago, and The Age of American Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Art Institute of Chicago. Ms. Roberts has a Ph.D. in art history from Boston University.

Please make sure your jpegs are properly sized (per specifications below) before beginning your online application below.

$20 Application Fee cannot be paid online. It must be mailed or hand delivered with a copy of application.

Online application/jpeg(s) will not be processed until County receives $20.00 check with copy of application.

1) APPLICATION FEE $20.00
$20.00 check should be made out to Palm Beach County BCC. Mail or hand deliver your $20.00 check AND a printed copy of your completed application form to Palm Beach County Art in Public Places, 2633 Vista Parkway, West Palm Beach, FL 33411 ATTN: Art at the Airport.

Submittals will not be processed if a printed copy of your application form is not included with your check. If you’re dropping off your $20 application check & a copy of your application paperwork in person, please put them in an envelope with your First and Last Name and ATTN: “Art at the Airport” on the front of the envelope .

Only online submittals of images will be accepted. You don’t need to include a printed image of your art with your $20 check and printed application. Application fees are non-refundable. Fees offsets a small portion of the cost to run the “Art of the Airport” Program.

2) JPEG(s) of Artwork
You’ll be prompted to submit a jpeg image of your art at the end of the online application process. If your art is framed, please provide an additional jpeg showing the artwork in its frame so the judge can review the composition as a whole. Name jpeg file Lastname.Firstname.jpg. If you are submitting an additional jpeg file of your framed artwork, name the second file Lastname.Firstname2. Image size should not exceed 1920 pixels on longest side. Image can’t be larger than 2MB. If larger, County won’t receive it.

CALL FOR ARTISTS! First Annual Art At The Avenue In Viera, FL

Located in a beautiful Central Park at The Avenue, Viera, on Lake Andrew Drive, the first annual “Art at the Avenue” will take place Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22, 2015 with an option to set up one’s tent and sell on Friday evening as well. Eight awards will be given based on the judge’s evaluation of the body of work within the booth rather than one particular piece. Originality, presentation and mastery of the medium will be considered.

Show Dates: March 21 and March 22, 2015. Hours: 10 am – 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. There is an option to set up late afternoon on Friday, March 20, and open for business that evening.

Requirements

2. Three (3) Digital Images of artist work, and one (1) image of booth and
3. Booth fee of $125 (payment to be made after an acceptance email or phone call is received by applicant)

 

Jury Details

Organized and presented by The Avenue and Art Gallery of Viera, jurying for acceptance will be completed by an Art Gallery of Viera committee. Awards will be given by an independent outside judge.
Independent judge(s) will evaluate each booth and the work of each artist. Their decision will be based on the body of work rather than an individual painting or piece. The judge(s) will begin rounds at 10 am on Saturday morning. Award winners will be announced Sunday morning

Second Place – $300
Third Place – $200
Merit Awards (5) at $50 each

Site Facts – the Venue

Central Park at The Avenue and the immediate surrounding area as marked. Exhibitors must provide their own means of display that is sufficiently sturdy to withstand out door elements. The artist is responsible for the cleanliness, safety and security of their display. Night security will be provided.

Site Facts – the Display Space

1. Each space is approximately 10×10 ft. Spaces will be assigned in the order the applications are received.
2. Work must be contained within the assigned space.
3. Failure to adhere to the designated space may result in the artist being required to reset their display.
4. Electricity to booths is not available. No generators allowed.
5. Booths must be completely set up and ready to go by 10 am on Saturday, March 21st.
6. Booth breakdown must not happen until after 5 pm on Sunday.

Original Works

1. All work must be original 2 or 3 dimensional artwork produced by the juried artist.
2. Display bins containing prints or reproductions must be clearly marked and identified as such. The bins must not detract from the overall appearance of the booth.
3. All editions should be limited.
4. Work must meet archival standards when applicable.
5. Not more than 10% of the artwork displayed on the walls of the display booth may be reproductions and must be clearly marked as such. Digital Art 1st Edition will be considered original.
6. No commercially made products, ceramics from commercial molds, commercially cut wood products, kit objects, decoupage, bead-work or mass-produced items may be exhibited.
7. No buy-sell items are allowed.
8. All work must be labeled either for sale with the price indicated or marked “Not For Sale”.
9. The committee reserves the right to eject any display which, in its opinion, does not conform to the artist’s work as represented by their juried images.

Please read the following information carefully. Failure to comply with instructions will result in ineligibility of artist’s application submission. Incomplete submissions will not be considered for the jury process. We reserve the right to refuse any application submission.

Deadline For Submission: February 6, 2015 at midnight EST.
1. Applications received after February 6, 2015 midnight, EST will not be accepted.
2. Artists will be notified of acceptance, non-acceptance or reserve status by phone or email by February 8, 2015, All Booth Payments are due by February 10, 2015. All decisions by the committee are final.

Application Submission

Online – The application form information with three (3) digital images of your work, plus one (1) image of booth needs to be emailed to entry@artgalleryofviera.com. The Application Fee of $125 must be paid by the February 10, 2015 deadline (at gallery or by Paypal) after an acceptance email has been received by the applicant. There will be no refunds for cancellation once artist has been accepted including cancellation of the show due to Acts of  God.”


Mail or Drop off
– To submit your application by mail, include your completed Application Form and a CD containing your 4 digital images. Applications may also be dropped off in person at Art Gallery of Viera. Include your application form and a CD with your 4 digital images. Booth Fees will need to be mailed after an acceptance phone call has been received. Payment can also be made at the gallery. All checks/money orders are deposited upon receipt. Make checks/money orders payable to Art Gallery of Viera and mail to: Art Gallery of Viera 2261 Town Center Avenue, Suite 111 Viera, FL 32940. Any check returned for insufficient funds is subject to a $50 processing fee.

Florida Sales Tax

Florida State Law requires that participating artists have a sales tax number. Each artist is responsible for the collection of Florida State Sales Tax on all sales made during the festival and for remittance to the State of Florida Department of Revenue.
