Ilene Adams works in both mixed media painting and in photography. Her paintings are a mixture of various mediums including photo transfers, plaster, gold leaf and thread. She often uses vintage family photos or old collectable postcards and the colors are often muted. Her photos, on the other hard, are bold, bright colors, pushing the limits on saturation and manipulating reality.

Ilene says about her art, “The artists that influenced me the most are Robert Rauschenberg and Maxfield Parish. Rauschenberg’s influence is apparent in my paintings that incorporate paint, collage, photographic images and artifacts. They evoke a feeling of nostalgia or of imaginary places. My photographs deal mostly with nature, but nature through an intense filter.  Images are put under a microscope and colors are heightened. Ordinary images are enhanced to create painterly new images that leave the viewer wondering if they are paintings or photographs? Abstract or realistic?”

Northwood Village Mural Project

Expands to OSGS Gallery!

Artist Tiffany Beasi Wins Bid to Create a Unique Mural

The Northwood Village Mural Project was conceived in early 2014 with Northwood Village Merchants and Proponents Jonathon Ortiz-Smykla, Billy Manthy, William Halliday, Craig McInnis, Eduardo Mendieta and the West Palm Beach CRA.  The West Palm Beach CRA and Edaurdo Mendieta spearheaded the initial Artist search and saw the first three murals in Northwood Village through to completion. Currently, there are several completed murals adorning the walls of various buildings in Northwood Village. These murals were created by Eduardo Mendieta, Amanda Valdes, Craig McInnis and now Tiffany Beasi.

This Mural at OSGS by Tiffany is part of the Northwood Village Mural Project but was produced solely by the owners of OSGS Gallery (as opposed to the initial murals funded by the CRA). Tiffany has painted murals in other Palm Beach County locations (Downtown Lake Worth at Dave’s Last Resort) as well.

The Northwood Village Mural Project is now in the hands of the Village Merchants and future growth will depend on merchant follow-through, sponsorships, and overall exposure to generate Northwood Village as a Mural Destination. Murals projects have thrived in many cities and create a fabulous environment for all to enjoy.

While never meeting in person, the two began an art gallery in the virtual world of Second Life with their photography of NWSPictures.

World Renown Artist, David Hayes’ Sculptures in Northwood

Thirteen large steel sculptures by noted Connecticut artist David Hayes will grace the Northwood Village shopping district of West Palm Beach for a year.  Northwood Village, located in northern West Palm Beach, is an oasis of restaurants, galleries and pedestrian friendly shops. The district has enjoyed a resurgence as a foodie destination in recent years, capped now by an exuberant display of outdoor sculpture. The Rickie Report suggests you stop by a little earlier for that dinner reservation, to take in all that Northwood has to offer!

NorthwoodA&W - Six Month Date Card_5x5_v4 C

Jon Ward, Executive Director of the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), states that “This brings an exciting, world-class display of modern sculpture to one of West Palm Beach’s most charming neighborhood shopping centers.” Northwood Village, located in northern West Palm Beach, is an oasis of restaurants, galleries and pedestrian friendly shops. The district has enjoyed a resurgence as a foodie destination in recent years, capped now by an exuberant display of outdoor sculpture.

The artwork will be sited outside of stores and shops in Northwood Village. Sculptures will be strategically placed on sidewalks, open spaces, grassy fields and courtyards where people walk on their way to work and shop. Artist David Hayes previously commented: “I like placing sculpture where people may view them on their own terms. It is important to bring artwork to public areas where anybody may enjoy it at their leisure.”

Son of the sculptor and exhibit curator John Hayes says that the exhibited artwork is part of a traveling museum exhibition and planning for this tour has been going on for over a year. Hayes worked closely with Jon Ward, who previously served on the Board of the Florida Council for Arts and Culture and had spearheaded major outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the region.

The sculptures are all created from welded steel plate and are designed for long-term public art exposure. The show consists of a variety of the artists’ different phases, including some screen pieces as well as iconic totems and even one hanging piece. Hayes selected to paint the pieces either in a semi-gloss black finish or bright multi-colors, depending on the feeling of the sculpture. The exhibition enjoys strong support from the community, including the village’s numerous residents and store owners.

The late artist enjoyed a six-decade long reputation as one of America’s great contemporary sculptors and has work included in the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum plus over 100 institutional collections across the country. He also designed jewelry for Pierre Cardin while living in Paris.

Take part in a festive evening to help ease the worry of holiday shopping as OSGS presents one-of-a-kind jewelry. Claudia Bloch

Necklace by Claudia Block

Claudia Bloch is an American artist known for her beaded jewelry designs. Born and raised in New York City, Claudia’s work reflects the fusion of cultures and people she was surrounded by in the invigorating city environment. Inspired by the work of Louise Nevelson, not just for her installations themselves, but for her process of walking the city streets at night, finding what others had discarded to use in the making of her own vision.

With that in mind, after Claudia began her designs with the goal of women wearing her pieces, she has recently amplified that idea – to a greater vision of building intriguing installations around the jewelry. Viewers can both enjoy wearing the pieces, as well is exploring the power of the material world and its influences over their identity. Claudia resides in South Florida but travels extensively showing her work in private and public venues.

Meryl Lefkovich

Meryl is a self-taught artist/maker with a degree in art history. She has had past careers as an art consultant, gallery manager, travel consultant and interior designer, all of which, she believes, contribute to her world view in design and concept.  Her serious art career began in 1993 when she began teaching herself how to paint. She has her paintings in a number of corporate and private collections in the Boston area and around the country.

Meryl Lefkovitz' Bracelet

Meryl Lefkovich’s Bracelet

In 2011, Meryl learned how to solder and there was no looking back. Jewelry design and fabrication have become her passion. Her primary influences are flora, fauna and a fascination with Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts Movement.

Meryl Lefkovich's Bracelet

Meryl Lefkovich’s Bracelet

She tells The Rickie Report, “As an art history major, ancient cultures also impact my designs; I love the look of a slightly time-worn patina, as though a long lost piece was newly discovered. Combining raw and organic with delicate and romantic, whimsy, combinations of color and gemstones – all have a place in my designs.”  She starts with a concept; a new interpretation of the natural world, then the metal takes over and informs her how each piece should develop.

Meryl Lefkovich's Earrings and Pendant

Meryl Lefkovich’s Earrings and Pendant

Meryl says, ” the forms and essence of nature, a dewdrop on a leaf, the rustle of leaves in the wind, the twisted scroll of vines and the gnarled knots of trees…these are the moments I want to capture and reflect in my jewelry.”

Elayna Toby Singer

Elayna Toby Singer is drawn to materials that come from the earth and to forms transformed through encounters with the elements. She is attracted to circles. They invite her in, are windows to the beyond; simultaneously open and whole.

Elayna Toby Singer's Bracelet

Elayna Toby Singer’s Bracelet

She tells The Rickie Report, “Connecting one object to the next, both physically and visually, energy and awareness journey between root and crown. The space between reminds us to breathe. Twirling and dancing with the air around us, energy shifts, spirit awakens, transformation occurs. Presented in new contexts, each object’s intrinsic beauty is revealed. Discarded and precious materials – vintage tools, machine parts, manufacturing remnants, garden trimmings, mineral stones and beads from around the world – are combined to create one-of-a-kind artworks.”

No two Elayna Toby Singer pieces are ever the same.  Elayna Toby Singer uses only “cold connections” in creating my assemblage kinetic sculptures and jewelry. No welding or soldering for me. Instead, she uses wrapping and knotting techniques, along with swivels and metal links, to connect one object to another.

Though Trina has exhibited in collaborative shows in the past, she has never had a SOLO exhibition.   This show, Women Unite”  is a tribute to women empowerment.   Born in Harlem, NY. , raised in Marble Hill Projects in the Bronx, Trina Slade-Burks is from an artistic lineage. Her multimedia influences have included creative writing, visual arts, music and theatrical arts disciplines.

After graduating from college in Fort Lauderdale with a degree in Visual Communications in the late 80’s, Trina felt the strong need to work creatively. She moved back to New York City and re-exposed herself to the creative flow she was longing for.  Trina later married a fellow artist Anthony Burks and together they have journeyed on to the next level of exposing people to what makes the world a better place: ART.

In 1993 Trina and Anthony created A.T.B. Fine Artists & Designers (formerly A.T.B Graphic Designers); offering image-building  and branding for artists and companies. They also connect artists to clients and act as mentors to young artists by offering training for the professional art world. In 2009 their company was registered as an LLC in West Palm Beach, FL.

With artists Barbara Cheives & Lea Jefferson, Trina and Anthony created  and launched a traveling art exhibition called “Collaboration” in 2007 which showcases art of different disciplines in alternative spaces. “Collaboration” is a new concept in art presentation.  Being in homes or businesses, allows artwork to be viewed by clients in a more realistic environment rather than a gallery or museum. It gives the artists an opportunity to interact with buyers on a one-to-one basis and develop a personal relationship without a third party facilitator.

Besides nurturing other innovative souls the couple is raising their two sons Anthony Jr. and Raymond who are equally as artistic as their parents.  Trina has been a major player in the development of art and culture for programs in Palm Beach County, FL.  Her groundbreaking projects  focus on the goal of developing the artistic souls of youth and adults alike, through creativity.

The Wanee Festival is hosted by the Allman Brothers Band and is celebrating it’s 10th Year! The Wanee festival includes a long list of nationally touring musicians in many genres of music, many who owe credit to the Allman Brothers for paving the way.  The future of Wanee remains cloudy due to the Allman Brothers finally calling it quits after 2014.  This comes after a successful 45 year run filled with some of the greatest rock improvisation the world has every known.

Jonathon tells The Rickie Report, “I’m honored to be a part of this historical time for the Allman Brothers and to be leaving my own personal mark on this event.  It’s also a great honor to have been chosen two years in a row as the designer for the festival t-shirt. It will be sold at the festival in a limited edition fashion”.

“Urban Scrawl” will represent abstract paintings created through layers of texture, color and spatial relationships.  The newest works on exhibit have been created through assemblage that relate to pop culture, history and the vernacular language of both rural and urban cultures.

Jonathon explains, “The paintings span 4 years and are mostly abstract with awareness to layers of texture and color.  The $$$ piece was a bit more of a turning point from the abstract work as I began to focus on more pop art and cultural based work, as seen with my 2014 small works collage series.  I hope that the exhibit at ActivistaArtistA Gallery/Studio will be seen as a range of work that has grown with my experimental pursuits.  By experimental I mean that the mixture of mediums I work with does not pinpoint to just one technique or style at this stage of my creativity.  As a relatively new, full-time artist I’m still learning a lot from the art world in general.”

” My education was not art history based, nor was it through an Art school.  My path led through the School of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University where I gained my Masters in Landscape Architecture, which is where my professional work developed over the past 13 years.  Only as of recent has my true passion for art resurfaced and provided me the excitement to pursue many more artistic endeavors.  It’s a true delight to be awarded opportunities to grow as an artist and to gain exposure for work that I have such passion for”, he goes on to share.
