Loxahatchee Visions 9th Annual Juried Art Contest and Show At Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge

The Friends of Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge announce the 9th Annual Juried Art Contest, “Loxahatchee Visions”. Cash Prizes will be awarded at the juried exhibition, which is open to all media except photography (save your photos for next year’s contest). Artists under the age of 18 may apply at no charge. The public is invited to the Opening Reception to meet the artists on Sunday, November 11th. The Rickie Report shares the details and can’t wait to see your creations!

The Visitor Center is open 9 AM – 4 PM daily

Deadline: Entries will be accepted at the Visitor Center from Sunday, October 28 through Saturday, November 3, 2018. The Visitor Center is open 9 AM – 4 PM daily.

Accepted entries will be on display in the auditorium starting Monday, November 5.

The Reception and Award Presentation will be Sunday, November 11, 2018 in the Visitor Center Auditorium at 1 PM.

Loxahatchee Visions Art Contest Entry Form:

 

 

Rules: Entries that do not comply will be disqualified.

ß  The contest is open to all artists.
ß  Each artist may submit one or two original works of art.
ß  No giclees and no previous award winners will be accepted.
ß  No photography. Please enter your photographs in our photography contest next spring.
ß  The subject must be inspired by“Loxahatchee Vision.”
ß  Any media or mixed media may be used (except photographs).
ß  Each entry must be framed and ready for hanging. Wrapped canvas or painted edges are OK.
ß  Each entry can be no more than36″on a side including the frame.
ß  Please label the back with a card securely attached stating the title of the work, the media type, the artist’s name, the artist’s contact information and the sale price.
ß  Friends of Loxahatchee will use their best efforts to sell the entries and will retain 25% of the sale price as a contribution to theRefuge.
ß  Each artist will be expected to remove their art between Saturday,January 12 and Sunday,January 20,2019.

Categories: Entries will be judged on technical excellence, originality, creativity, visual impact, and artistic merit. Judges’ decisions are final.

ß  There are two categories-Youth/Student (through high school) and Adult(age 18 and above).
ß  Each category will be awarded a FirstPrize($250);a SecondPrize($150);and a ThirdPrize($100)
ß  Judges may designate up to 3 entries in each category as Honorable Mentions.
ß  Judges may decide not to award cash prizes if there are less than 10 entries in that category.

Entry Fee and Form: A check or money order made to the Friends of Loxahatchee must accompany the completed entry form. Place both in an envelope labeled Friends Art Contest and bring to the Visitor Center with your entry.

The exhibit runs during this area’s high visitor season from Wednesday, March 11 through Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Nature Center! The reception and announcement of winners will take place on Friday, April 17 from 6 to 8:30pm. Cash prizes will be awarded. The Rickie Report is pleased to share this CALL TO ARTISTS! Subject matter will feature Florida native/winter-residing flora and fauna and/or scenes of pristine areas of Florida, e.g. state and county parks and marine reserves. Fine craft and abstract art may incorporate native materials to qualify, e.g. wood, fronds, grasses, flowers, etc. Works may include people enjoying the natural wonders of Florida as well as historic landmarks, e.g. lighthouses, pioneer dwellings and plantations, etc.  Of necessity, space available, number of works and order of submission will determine acceptances. The jurors’ decision is final.

February 13 – Notification of acceptance sent out via email.
February 27 2 – 4 pm – Artwork drop-off.
February 28 9 am-1 pm – Artwork drop-off.
March 7 10 am – 1 pm – Final drop-off.

May 7 – Exhibit closes.

From I-95, exit at Forest Hill Boulevard and head west. The entrance to Okeeheelee Park is located between Jog Road and the Turnpike overpass on the north side.Turn into the park and continue straight. The entrance to the nature center is just past the entrance to Pooch Pines Dog Park on the left side of the road. Turn left and proceed to the nature center parking lot.

MEMBERSHIP

The Friends of Okeeheelee Nature Center, Inc. is designed to promote an appreciation of our natural world to the general public through educational programs that reflect Okeeheelee Nature Center’s commitment to the stewardship of Florida’s natural resources. This is done by raising monies for the enhancement and diversification of programs, assisting staff with recruitment of volunteers, training programs, and publicity. We invite you to support the work of the center as a non-profit corporation by becoming a member. All monies collected are used to benefit the Center and its programs. Your annual tax-deductible contribution funds materials for service and management projects, exhibits, and other educational pursuits. Members receive invitations to all special happenings and a 10% discount at the gift shop.
