Opportunities to present your creative work in public forums are arranged by our Art, Letters and Music Committees. You’ll network with our creative members and expand your reach in the local community. The public is invited to hear composer, Sheila Firestone present The Journey to Creating the Musical, “Miriam and the Women of the Desert” on Saturday, January 26 at the TeaLicious Tea House in Delray Beach, FL.  An active member of the Boca Raton Branch National League of American Pen Women, Sheila will share anecdotes about her visits to Israel, the twenty-two year span in creating this musical, plus the Biblical Miriam and the women who surrounded her. Join the Boca Raton Pen Women for a delightful afternoon, featuring a preview of some of the music from “Miriam and the Women of the Desert” and a delicious tea luncheon. Composer and Pen Woman, Sheila Firestone will present “The Journey to Creating the Musical, Miriam and the Women of the Desert.” Sheila will share anecdotes about her visits to Israel and the sights, sounds and visions that inspired her compositions. Her musical accomplishment, which took over twenty-two years to complete, is a fascinating story about Sheila, as well as the Biblical Miriam and the women who surrounded her.

A spiritual musical journey that speaks to the Exodus through the eyes of Miriam the Prophetess. Stories are drawn from Torah and from midrash. Miriam, the keeper of the well, the voice of the women, along with her brothers Aaron and Moses, leads the journey. Explores family relationships of mothers raising strong women, father’s influence, meaningful love relationships, offspring and generational heritage. As we wander through the desert searching for meaning, the cast of seven beautifully trained voices tells the stories of Miriam, Zipporah, Yocheved and significant others. National League Of American Pen Women Fort Lauderdale Branch Announces Call For Art

The Fort Lauderdale Branch of National League of American Pen Women share a Call for Artists for a juried exhibition of all media. The event takes place at the Herb Skolnick Community Center in Pompano Beach, FL.  The public is invited to an Awards Luncheon on Friday, February 10th.  The juror, Lark Keeler, currently serves on the faculty of the NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale.  The Rickie Report shares the details and urges the artists to apply – and art patrons to visit the exhibit, which is open February 1st through March 1st.

Since its founding in 1897 by Marian Longfellow O’Donoghue, Henry Longfellow’s niece, the League seeks to create progression and advancement in visual arts, literary work, and musical composition. ABOUT NATIONAL LEAGUE OF AMERICAN PEN WOMEN

The Boca Raton Branch of the National League of American Pen Women is a prestigious organization of professional women in the Arts – Published Writers, Authors, Poets, Musical Composers and Award winning Artists.

NLAPW’s corporate headquarters is based in Washington, D.C. , where it oversees branches all over the United States. The League boasts membership of such prominent women as Eleanor Roosevelt, Erma Bombeck, and local well-known artist Edna Hibel. Vinnie Ream, the only woman to sculpt President Lincoln from life, was an early member of NLAPW. Her statue of Lincoln now stands in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.

The Boca Raton branch is one of the largest in the country and will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2015. As a qualified member of Art, Letters or Music, each member is exposed to participation in Art Exhibits, Author Talks and various workshops. On the third Thursday of the month – from November to May – luncheons are held with interesting, informative and entertaining speakers featuring the three Muses ~ Art – Literature – Music!

Studio 18 Presents “Through Women’s Eyes”, Featuring National League Of American Pen Women, Fort Lauderdale Branch Artists

The community is invited to attend “Through Women’s Eyes,” at Studio 18 in Pembroke Pines, Florida from July 22 – September 1.  An Opening Artist Reception will take place on Friday July 22. Meet the Featured Artist members of the non-profit National League of American Pen Women Ft. Lauderdale Branch, mingle with those who share an appreciation for art, and enjoy light refreshments while listening to the beautiful music of the Night Breeze Jazz trio.   In addition, three members – Susan Buzzi, Jen Walls and Phoenix – will be reading from their published works sharing experiences as seen through their eyes. The artists of “Through Women’s Eyes” work in the mediums of photography, water color, acrylics and oils. Artists: Karen Braverman, Susan Buzzi, Mary Belle Cordell, Beverly Dameron, Claudia Hafner, Elaine Kahn, Christine Landis, Valerie Lecklikner, Terry Mulrroney, Lois Perdue, Phoenix, Anabel Rub Peicher, Donna Salle, Tammy Seymour, Carol Thaw, Jen Walls and Subashini Yalamanchi, have borrowed inspiration from nature and rendered impressive art work ranging from replica to creative interpretation. The National League of American Pen Women organization is comprised of professional women dedicated to creating progression and advancement in literary work, visual arts and musical composition.

“This is a very accomplished group of professional female artists who pay special tribute and celebrate the uniqueness of South Florida’s natural beauty in this stunning Exhibition,” said Holly Bonkowski, Division Director of Cultural Arts for the City of Pembroke Pines.

 

 

 

 

 

The National League of American Pen Women-Fort Lauderdale, made up of a select group of professional women in the arts, presents: “Through Women’s Eyes.” This exhibit will showcase some of South Florida’s most accomplished artists’ latest works celebrating South Florida’s natural beauty. Working in various mediums including photography, water color, acrylics and oils, these renowned artists will each pay tribute to the beauty of South Florida’s most remarkable natural assets. The exhibit will be organized and curated by native Miami photographer Phoenix who has enjoyed a diverse career that has encompassed journalism, media relations and film-making. Phoenix’ primary studio and sanctuary are south Florida’s wetlands and the Everglades and her serene and startling scenes will be complemented in words and imagery by her fellow artists.

Since its founding in 1897 by Marian Longfellow O’Donoghue, Henry Longfellow’s niece, the League seeks to create progression and advancement in visual arts, literary work, and musical composition. As the oldest and largest women’s arts organization, members share their creativity in a number of ways, including workshops, exhibitions, discussion groups, performances, demonstrations and lectures, fostering networking and friendships among members, while maintaining a high, broad standard of work, effort and strength that comes from the union. Open Call For Art By Women Artists by National League Of Pen Women Fort Lauderdale Chapter

National League of American Pen Women (Ft. Lauderdale Branch) announces its Annual Open Juried Fine Arts Exhibit to All Area Women Artists. Noted Florida artist, Susan Megur is the juror.  This Call is open to women artists in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties. JUDGE: Susan Megur: Was published in the “The Best of American Artists” and “Best of Florida Artists and Artisans”. Her focus is in both portraiture and the figure.

Monetary awards and ribbons will be awarded on February 12th at the Skolnick Center prior to luncheon and Program.

At minimum 10% of net profits will benefit the Student Achievement Awards. A major portion of the proceeds will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with ribbons given for Honorable Mentions.
