Introductory Animation: The Magic of Motion


Students will learn how to draw metamorphosis, walking cycles, squash and stretch, and blur and resistance. Working in traditional, hand drawn, frame by frame animation, each student will complete a series of exercises in order to gain a better understanding and insight of how movement can be captured on paper and how the creators of your favorite animated films make magic! All levels welcome.

We will start by painting some simple street scenes, and then move up to larger, more dramatic cityscapes. Each day’s demo will include discussions on composition, massing, building form, light and shadow, near and far, capturing and developing atmospheric distance, and, knowing when a work is finished (learning how to not overwork your painting). Douglas will cover simple street scenes with one and two point perspective, along with day and night scenes, with and without people and autos. Plan to produce several paintings in this studio workshop. Must have a working knowledge of oil.

Jewelry Workshop – Flush/Burnish Setting Round Stones


This workshop will have you flush/burnish setting round stones in no time at all! Learn how to make your own flush setting tool, become familiar with the principles of why flush setting works and how to trouble shoot problems before and after they happen, and finally, test your work for long lasting results. Requirements include moderate hand strength and vision magnification devices. All levels welcome.

Bring your creative imagination, and your favorite bottle of wine, to a new and fun acrylic pouring Select Friday Night. Love-Struck-Couples Ring Making 


Come join us for a date night, bring your girlfriend/boyfriend, spouse, partner or best friend, your favorite beverages and light bites and join us for a night of fun. Make a sterling silver ring for yourself or one for your significant other, the choice is yours. During this workshop each student will learn to cut, form, solder, texture and patina their ring. All levels welcome.

A new type of drawing beyond the typical pencil, charcoal and pastel….we are using alcohol inks. Elliott Museum Hosts Florida Watercolor Society’s 2018-2019 Traveling Exhibition. Enjoy Reception, Meet Artists, Live Demos November 8 To January 27

The Elliott Museum in Stuart, FL will host the first leg of the Florida Watercolor Society’s 2018-2019 Traveling Exhibition.  The Florida Watercolor Society (FWS), one of the largest and most prestigious organizations of its kind in the US, holds an Annual Exhibition in different areas of the state. The public is invited to an Artists’ Reception on November 15th and Live Watercolor demonstrations every Tuesday for the duration of the show (Except for holiday weeks).  The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks.  Congratulations to all of the artists and the Elliott Museum for this eye catching exhibit which runs November 8th, 2018, through January 27th, 2019.  Some of the work is available for purchase with sales benefitting both the Elliott Museum and the artists.

The Florida Watercolor Society, now in its 47th year, is one of the largest and most prestigious organizations of its kind in the country.  Each year, about 600 artists submit their work hoping to be among the 100 artists selected for the FWS Annual Exhibition.  .  More than 40 of the paintings are traveling onto two additional venues, and the Elliott Museum is proud to once again host the first stop for the FWS Traveling Show.

In conjunction with this very special Exhibition, the Elliott’s own Robin Lee Makowski will give a live watercolor demonstration each Tuesday* from 1-3 pm in the Changing Gallery. *Except for holiday weeks.

On Saturday, December 15th from 1-3 pm, award-winning artist, Pat Dews, will give a demo on her abstract painting techniques in advance of her two-day workshop, Abstracting Nature, on January 26& 27 at the Elliott Museum.

This year, judge Tom Schaller had his work cut out for him!  The FWS 47th Annual Exhibition was held at ArtCenter Manatee in Bradenton from September 7th through October 26th.  Participating artists have the option of having their work travel onto two additional venues in different parts of the state.  The Elliott Museum hosted this show in 2015 and is proud once again to host the 2018-2019 FWS Traveling Exhibition.  




Carol Staub – “Celestial Expression”






FWS, now in its 47th year, showcases the best of the best in Florida watercolor and watermedia artwork in their Annual Exhibitions.  Artists vie for a coveted place in the show and compete for over $20,000 in awards.  Participating artists must be FWS members in good standing whose work must conform to strict rules in execution and presentation.  The Annual Exhibition is hosted in different venues around the state depending on the location of the FWS President for that year.

The 2018 Annual Exhibition was held in Bradenton, FL under the supervision of Jerome Chesley, 2018 President.  ArtCenter Manatee hosted this event.  FWS is one of the only organizations in the country to host a Convention & Trade Show in conjunction with its Annual Exhibition & Reception offering demonstrations by noted watercolor artists, critiques, and a Trade Show where artists can get great deals on art supplies and see demos by noted artists working with new supplies offered by vendors.  This year, the festivities were held at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota.

The Palm Beach Watercolor Society invites everyone to their May,12th meeting.  Enjoy a “round robin” painting experience!  Spectators are welcome! “Paint Around”

How a “Paint-around” Works:

4 or 5 artists will stand in a circle at easels and start a painting. They may have it lightly sketched in. Each painter will work for 10 minutes, and then each will move to the right and paint on that piece of art for 10 minutes, and so on, until it comes back to the original painter, who will have a few minutes to finish it up. Then there will be a raffle and the first winner will have the option to pick one of the paintings, then the next, next, and next, until they are all selected. The proceeds from the raffle will support the workings of PBWS. Spectators are welcome!  Non-members: $2 to attend. 
Attendees will also receive a free goodie in terms of some kind of art supply.

  • There will be a members’ show at the Delray Beach Public Library in September.


  • The first meeting of the Fall will be October 20th.
