Howard Alan Events Launches “Live Well Be Well Tour” Presented by FPL SolarNow™ During The  31st Annual Las Olas Art Fair October 20 – 21

Ancient Greeks understood – and recent science has proven – that art, the environment, and a healthy body all work together to promote longevity and a better life. This knowledge inspired the nation’s top art festival producer to create a one-of-a-kind event launching this season. The Howard Alan Events’ Live Well Be Well Tour presented by FPL SolarNow™ premieres October 20 – 21 during the 31st Annual Las Olas Art Fair.  Joining nearly 300 artists’ booths along iconic Las Olas Boulevard will be an entire “festival-within-a-festival” with a dedicated area of booths offering information and demonstrations on current health and medical practices, sustainable energy alternatives, organic foods, homeopathic treatments, state-of-the-art exercise equipment and other vendors dedicated to providing tools for healthy living.  Kudos to Howard and Debbie for being pioneers and visionaries once again!  The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks of the fine art.

“I actually began my career decades ago in medicine, and opened one of the first organic fast food restaurants in the state,” says longtime producer Howard Alan. “My wife and I have always been health-conscious, and know the value of a healthy body boosting creativity and longevity. Most of our regular art festival patrons are just as particular about the environment, their health and lifestyle choices as they are about their art.” This observation over the years led to Alan being among the first to incorporate recycling options and natural food offerings into his art festivals, and eventually, to the creation of the “Live Well Be Well Tour”.

Studies have recently proven that exercise and a healthy lifestyle not only stave off dementia, but also stimulate the Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), which encourages the creation of new brain cells in the hippocampus. This is the same part of the brain that is critical for long-term memory retention and creative thinking.  “Most of our longtime artists themselves have adopted a healthy regimen in order to do the tours, which can be physically grueling, and they say it keeps them creatively inspired. They also draw key inspiration from our environment, so sustainability is as critical to them as it is to our patrons,” continues Alan. “A healthy lifestyle allows us to think creatively, the environment sustains us, and art enables us to bring that creativity to life and to inspire others. All these things working together define what it means to live well and to be well.”

This year’s Budding Artist contest included 47 entries from 16 area schools; all entries were publicly displayed under the “Budding Artist” tent. It exposed young artists to the opportunity of creating his/her art for a living – doing something he/she loves to do, and, most importantly, how to do it. The competition gave budding artists a golden opportunity to begin learning the rules of being part of a professional art show and exhibition.

Criteria for judging the youth art were based on technique/execution and originality, which is similar to the criteria for the judging of the professional artist awards.

Artist Michael Braun, Digital, gave a short presentation about transforming his artwork from fiber to digital art. He had something in common with one of the Budding Artists, Dominic Mattioli of Monarch High School, who entered a painting of Jimi Hendrix. Michael designed Jimi Hendrix’ pants in his famous on-stage photo and made clothes for other musical artists including Sonny & Cher, Greg Allman, and Sly of Sly & the Family Stone.

The artwork made by the Budding Artists was so compelling, original and well done that patrons purchased some of the student’s art.  For the budding artists who did not win a prize, it is important that they were communicated that even the best artists do not get accepted into the best art shows all the time; that art is subjective, and if this is something they love to do, they should not give up, but to also congratulate the winners.

The Boca Raton Fine Art Show™ provided these students with an unmatched learning experience, and exposed families to artwork that they would not have otherwise seen. Young artists were encouraged to speak with the artists in the show – all professionals — and to ask them questions about participating in art shows as a career.
