Karen Knutson will open your eyes to Gustav  Klimt as you delve into acrylic for the first time  or as an experienced painter. This workshop will emphasize good design with lots of tricks and techniques to push you into Klimt’s world. New to acrylic inexpensive paints may be used for the process. No drawing skills are necessary to enter this playful but expressive workshop.

Design, photo shop, power repetition, balance, color games through mingling with a different image produced each day. One day will venture into opaques. The Gold Coast Watercolor Society, a watermedia group, invites the public to a free event on Tuesday, March 20th.  Join us for our Annual Flea Market of new and used art supplies. Biggest year yet!  Fundraising with raffles and our ANNUAL FLEA MARKET supports our “Young at Art Museum” Summer Camp Program. Contemporary artist, Pat Dews will give a demo and everyone can buy new and used art supplies to benefit the Young At Art Summer Camp Program!  Donations are still coming in, so we can’t list everything here.  Stop by the Artsetrve Auditorium! Make Your Reservations For Florida Watercolor Society Annual Convention And Trade Show

The Florida Watercolor Society will be in Coral Springs this year to celebrate its 46th Annual Exhibition, Convention, and Trade Show. FWS is one of very few organizations of its kind in the country to hold an Annual Convention and Trade Show. The Convention kicks off Thursday evening, September 14th  with a two-hour painting demonstration by Iain Stewart. Many more demos, as well as critiques, raffles, silent auctions, and a Paint-Around are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 15th & 16th. All of these events are included with the $20 registration fee. Other instructors include watercolor artists Bev Jozwiak AWS, NWS and Sue Allen AWS, NWS.  The Trade Show is free and open to the public. The Exhibition judge, artist Iain Stewart AWS, NWS, reviewed nearly 600 entries to select the 100 watermedia paintings that will show from September 9th through November 17th at the Coral Springs Museum of Art, 2855 Coral Springs Drive in Coral Springs. Iain also selected 35 paintings from the show to travel on to two additional venues. Bonita Springs Center for the Arts will host the first stop, showing November 21st through December 28th. The second stop will be the Gadsden Art Center & Museum in Quincy, FL, from January 12th through March 24th, 2018. Both Traveling Show venues will host a reception on opening night.

 

WORKSHOPS:

 

Two workshops held in conjunction with the 46th Annual Exhibition still have space available. Iain Stewart’s four-day workshop, held September 11th -14th, 9am – 4pm still has a few spots open. Sue Allen NWS, FWS will teach a one-day workshop on September 14th from 9am-4pm. The workshops will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Coral Springs Resort, 11775 Heron Bay Blvd. in Coral Springs.

Since beginning her career as a full time artist in 1998, Soon has had many exhibitions and won extensive numbers of awards. With her vibrant watercolor technique she has become much sought after as a teacher and author and has published a number of instructional books and dvd’s. Her paintings are in the permanent collection of several museums, including the National Watercolor Museum, as well as in many private collections.

Florida artists and GCWS Members may enter.

Watermedia may include any combination of  watercolor, tempera, gouache, opaque watercolor, acrylic, casein, ink, charcoal, gesso, watercolor crayons, pencils and pens including metallic.

One must exclude water-soluble oils as well as any other similar substance.

Acceptable surfaces for watercolor are substrates created for watermedia. For example: paper, clay coated surfaces (Clayboard, Aquaboard, Ampersand), synthetic surfaces, (Yupo, Tiger Rag), illustration board and flat watercolor canvas.

Watercolor Collage is acceptable, but newspaper, magazine or non-watercolor material cutouts will not be accepted.

Works must be original i.e., not done under class instruction, critiqued and changed, not a copy of another artist’s work.

Work must be done by a single artist not a collaborative work.

Work must have been completed within the last three years; any submitted work must not have been previously displayed in a GCWS judged show.

Tasteful nudes will be accepted into this show.

 

 

Entry and fees:

Artists may enter one or two paintings. A non-refundable fee of $30 for GCWS members, $35 for non-members, must accompany the entry form. No changes can be made after entry is received. No refunds will be made.

 

 

Sizing and framing requirements:

All types of frames and mats are acceptable except those that are ornate or heavy.

Saw tooth hangers are not permitted.

Maximum size frame is less than 48”in any direction.

Work must be sturdily framed under Plexiglas, wired and ready for hanging.

Please cross brace large pieces. (work will be rejected if it does not comply and fees will NOT be refunded.)
