On Saturday, February 1, the public can wander around the streets of Delray any time between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm to see more than 50 artists capturing the hidden gem that is Delray Beach. Our artists love to have an audience and will be happy to share what they are doing with you.

The paintings from Plein Fun Fest 2020 will be featured in a silent auction beginning on Friday night January 31 at 6:30 pm and all-day Saturday until 4:00 pm at Old School Square in Delray Beach. Last year Plein Fun Fest raised over $5,000 at the silent auction and more than $8,000 for the week.

The Plein Fun Fest competition is sponsored jointly by Plein Air Palm Beach (PAPB) and Old School Square. “The aim of Plein Fun Fest is to be a regional art event to support artists of South Florida. We want to have something that reflects our group and we want to be local. We are not interested in competing with the national plein air competition events,” says publicity chair, Donna Walsh.

Founded in 1889 in New York City, the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. (NAWA) is the first professional women’s fine arts group in the United States.

In 1995, the first NAWA Chapter was founded in Florida. The Florida Chapter extends the mission of our National organization by providing highly visible Florida venues, designing art education opportunities for its members and promoting art education to Florida communities; as well as encouraging the next generation of women artists to strive for even more visibility of women artists in the Art World.

Artists wishing to join the Florida Chapter must first be juried into the National Organization (NAWA).  NAWAFL is a 501C3 not-for-profit tax exempt organization.

On Thursday evening, Oct. 20th at 7 PM, we will have the pleasure of having Board Member Anita Lovitt demonstrate a technique she is exploring with masking fluid. Anita has been teaching classes in watercolor at the Armory Art Center. She also instructs small painting groups in private homes.

Ms. Lovitt worked in New York City for many years as an illustrator before deciding to concentrate on painting. A highlight of that period was working at the New York Shakespeare Festival, which sparked an interest in set design. That knowledge came in handy when she created the huge “Dancing Pineapples” Art in Public Places mural in downtown Delray Beach.
