Boca Raton Art Museum Art School Invites You To Open House. Learn About The New Classes, Workshops And Enjoy Some Perks
The Boca Raton Museum Art School is 65 years old this year, but there is nothing retiring about the Art School. The Art School is revitalizing its programs with new classes and events. Stop by for OPEN HOUSE: Saturday, August 29, 1-4 pm. A fun afternoon to meet teachers, visit the studios, see demonstrations of art techniques such as stone carving, making tempera paint, porcelain painting, pottery and jewelry making. Enjoy food trucks, a free raffle for art supplies or a short back massage courtesy of Body Kneads Massage of Palmetto Park Square. The Art School is initiating new “appetizers” or first courses for beginners who want to test out their creative side and for experienced artists to try a new technique. The appetizer courses are short, fun, creative, and do not require lots of art supplies.
They include make your own Pop-Up book; colored pencil drawing; perspective drawing in 4 sessions; learn glass fusing to make jewelry; print making to design your own notecards; and Kumihimo braiding for jewelry. The appetizer courses start in late September.
The Art School is increasing its evening and Saturday classes and expanding it ceramics department, offering additional pottery classes and a new Figurative Clay Sculpture class. The Art School is hosting an exhibit of ceramics in the gallery opening August 28, 5-8pm. The Exhibit runs through September 29th, featuring work by Catalina Aguirre- Hoffman, Barbara Brown, Justin Lambert, Diane Lublinski, Susan Maguire, Lori Gregory, Stephen Hubbard and others.
With over 100 classes each month there is something for everyone from absolute beginners to experienced artist. Studio classes are conducted in eight areas: book making, ceramics, drawing, jewelry arts, painting, digital photography and video, print making, and sculpture.
The Art School is a community of people interested in art and is the teaching branch of the cultural campus comprised of the Art School, Artists’ Guild and Museum.
Originally the Artists’ Guild conducted classes in Mizner-designed Boca Raton Hotel. In 1962 the Guild constructed the building on West Palmetto Park Road which served as Museum and Art School until 2001 when the Museum opened in Mizner Park.
