The W.A.S. meeting will be held Wednesday, February 12th at the Wellington Community Center, 12165 West Forest Hill Blvd. As always, there will be a meet and mingle beginning at 6:30pm with a raffle and fabulous prizes , with the proceeds going to the Wellington Art Society Scholarship Fund. The general meeting begins at 7:00PM with the presentation and demo to follow. Guests are welcome for a $5 fee.

Deb grew up on a small farm in Connecticut exploring the woods and swamps around her house. She received no formal training till attending Art College, where she majored in advertising and illustration. She has studied with world-renowned artists; Hall of Fame/Master Pastel Artist Doug Dawson and the late Maggie Price Master Circle winner and past President of the International Association of Pastel Societies.
She is currently a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, Artist for Conservation, a member of excellence with the Southeastern Pastel Society, The Pastel Society of North Florida, the International Guild of Realism, associate member of Audubon Artists and an associate member of the Oil Painters of America.

Her work has been published in many newspapers and several magazines including Wildlife Art Magazine, Wildscape Magazine located in the UK and Southwest and Wildlife art magazine online.
She has also illustrated a children’s book called ‘Woodrat Jill’ with part of the proceeds going to preserve habitat for the endangered Key Largo Woodrat and is available on Amazon.com. Its a story about an Key Largo Woodrat named Jill who bred in captivity and is set free to make a life on her own.

Deb LaFogg Docherty will be talking about some of the basics of painting and pastels She will do demonstration in which she explores different forms of underpainting, application techniques, and illustrates how light, color, contrast, composition, texture, and especially atmosphere make any painting in any medium luminous and breath-taking.

As always, the evening is for artists and art lovers to hear about all of the exciting projects and initiatives that the art society is involved in and to find out how to participate.  Wellington Art Society has ongoing art exhibitions at the beautiful Wellington City Hall Gallery. These exhibitions rotate every few months and are juried shows with artwork submitted by Wellington Art Society’s over 100 members. Most of the work is for sale and it is a great opportunity to see and buy fabulous local art.

The current show features 17 WAS members. The artwork includes photography, mixed media, watercolor, oil pastel and acrylic media. Tours are given between 11:00am and noon, and will continue to be offered the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month between 11:00am and noon.
Tours are free to the public and are available for small groups or individuals.
