Aya Fiber Studio Brings Indigo And Other Dye Techniques To Southeast Florida

In the fashion magazines and furnishings catalogs, indigo is all the rage. It is no surprise, as people worldwide have been using indigo dye from the beginning of time.  If you are looking for hand dyed indigo clothing, pillows or fabric to create what you want, Suzanne Connor’s Aya Fiber Studio is THE place to be!  Located within Port Salerno’s Fish House Art Center, it is in the hub of other artists’ studios and good dining options.  The Rickie Report shares details about the DYEHOUSE and STUDIO space and encourages individuals and groups to try any of the WORKSHOPS.  Stop by on Friday, June 12th for the official GRAND Opening RECEPTION!

Suzanne tells us, “What I love about fiber art is the surprise element – the mixture of the fabric, the dye and the resist create different combinations of results that are only revealed at the final step…the magic when the freshly dyed indigo comes out of the vat and turns from green to blue right before your eyes! It is always a surprise when I unwrap a freshly dyed piece of fabric! I currently specialize in Shibori and Batik. For me, these art forms are an excuse to use vibrant colors and simple shapes to produce designs, without having to worry too much about the details –just as in life, there are no “mistakes” with fiber, and everything is always subject to change. The imperfections are all part of the creative process.  I’m always learning new techniques and experimenting so I can share them with my students. Every piece created is a unique one of a kind original!”
