“Roses” by Patricia Schwimmer

Patricia is a Toronto native, and her childhood vacations were always spent at the beach. A recent move to Palm Beach Gardens, FL fulfilled her desire to live and work near the water. The natural beauty of the ocean and its surroundings have had a major impact on Schwimmer’s color palette and expressive brushwork.

Patricia Schwimmer tells The Rickie Report, “I began my journey into abstraction a few years ago, after painting realism for many years. My work is very much about process. and somehow I am not satisfied unless the work has a history of layers. I am aware that it is the spontaneous and accidental marks that are the most exciting, whether they lend themselves to furthering the composition or create tension in the work. I long for a little disturbance in the overall calm of the composition…an area where the eye wanders that may not go with the rest of the painting and begs me to wonder why”.

She understands that it is important that the piece be visually appealing as well as interesting enough to linger over, taking cues from her internal experience to sense when a painting is complete. She says, “Lately, with all the noise in the World, I am enjoying quiet shifts and soft colors in a painting; getting transported by nuances and the grace of being present to what comes. Painting has become a metaphor for living because if I am only willing to scratch the surface and do what is easy, the work will reflect that. An openness to tap into the deep waters of my creative stream will yield something much richer and way more interesting”.

“Lazy Circles in the Sky” by Patricia Schwimmer

Patricia Schwimmer has lead workshops in creative painting at various venues including The Georgian Bay School of Arts and the Chautauqua Institute. The natural beauty of the ocean and its surroundings have had a major impact on her color palette and expressive brushwork. Her work has been featured in numerous publications worldwide including Michelle Cassou and Stewart Cubley’s book “Life, Paint, and Passion.” She was featured at Art Palm Beach International, the 2016 Designers’ Show House in WPB, and in Nantucket Island through JF Art Gallery. Patricia is a featured artist at The MAE Gallery in Delray Beach, FL.

The Wanee Festival is hosted by the Allman Brothers Band and is celebrating it’s 10th Year! The Wanee festival includes a long list of nationally touring musicians in many genres of music, many who owe credit to the Allman Brothers for paving the way.  The future of Wanee remains cloudy due to the Allman Brothers finally calling it quits after 2014.  This comes after a successful 45 year run filled with some of the greatest rock improvisation the world has every known.

Jonathon tells The Rickie Report, “I’m honored to be a part of this historical time for the Allman Brothers and to be leaving my own personal mark on this event.  It’s also a great honor to have been chosen two years in a row as the designer for the festival t-shirt. It will be sold at the festival in a limited edition fashion”.

“Urban Scrawl” will represent abstract paintings created through layers of texture, color and spatial relationships.  The newest works on exhibit have been created through assemblage that relate to pop culture, history and the vernacular language of both rural and urban cultures.

Jonathon explains, “The paintings span 4 years and are mostly abstract with awareness to layers of texture and color.  The $$$ piece was a bit more of a turning point from the abstract work as I began to focus on more pop art and cultural based work, as seen with my 2014 small works collage series.  I hope that the exhibit at ActivistaArtistA Gallery/Studio will be seen as a range of work that has grown with my experimental pursuits.  By experimental I mean that the mixture of mediums I work with does not pinpoint to just one technique or style at this stage of my creativity.  As a relatively new, full-time artist I’m still learning a lot from the art world in general.”

” My education was not art history based, nor was it through an Art school.  My path led through the School of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University where I gained my Masters in Landscape Architecture, which is where my professional work developed over the past 13 years.  Only as of recent has my true passion for art resurfaced and provided me the excitement to pursue many more artistic endeavors.  It’s a true delight to be awarded opportunities to grow as an artist and to gain exposure for work that I have such passion for”, he goes on to share.
