Don and Mary Anne Sarka’s joy of creativity exudes from their faces!  Their combined love of nature has taken them to places and environments where they are continually recharging their creative batteries. Don tells The Rickie Report, “My interest in art began many years ago, when I began sketching Disney characters as a boy and using watercolors to paint them.  Starting in 1988, I began getting Instruction in oil painting from a local artist and have studied and painted on and off to the present time.  I use oil paints because it allows me to mix and blend to produce strong colors with light and shadows”.

“Majestic Sky” by Don Sarka

He goes on to say, “My love of nature and its magnificent creations, causes a spiritual change in me.  The many photos taken give me inspiration to paint a particular picture. We have vacationed in many states and national parks and I have become a critical photographer, capturing the beauty and splendor of nature. I paint my version of what I see and interpret it on to canvas.  I use pictures as an idea of what I want to paint and then come up with my interpretation or theme.  I am a landscape architect and the principles of design have helped me in painting with form, texture and color”.

“Purple” by Don Sarka

Mary Anne tells The Rickie Report, ” My enthusiasm for painting started many years ago. Since then I have taken many classes with fantastic painting professionals and it has given me the opportunity to work on composition, perspective, colors, texture, lights and dark’s.  I paint in the traditional and representational format and my paintings can be hung practically anywhere.  I prefer acrylic. My paintings vary between landscapes, seascapes, animals, birds and flowers. I love it when I get lost in the painting process. When I stand back during this time to look at my painting, I am happily surprised and delighted”.

“Florida Wetlands” by Mary Anne Sarka

She continues, “I frequent art galleries and have a collection of wonderful painting books that give me fantastic information, guidance and inspiration. Painting opened up a whole new world for me, and has given me an awareness and ability to be creative and paint using my imagination and feelings. I have taken thousands of photographs that I use as a reference when painting”.

Award winning artists, Don and Mary Anne are members of the Delray Art League which is a juried league and exhibited in most of their events, including The Crest Theater, the Delray Affair, Delray Beach City Hall, Old School Square, Veterans Park, Coral Springs Museum of Art, Armory Art Center, Arts Garage. They have previously exhibited at the Lake Worth Art League Gallery and Arts Arena Garage (Delray Beach).

“Waves and Palm Trees” by Mary Anne Sarka

Generous with their time and artworks, they have donated to the local community through fundraisers, art auctions, and painted a 6’ x 20’ mural by their clubhouse pool.  They have four married children and nine grandchildren and one great child on the way. They both tell The Rickie Report, “During our family times, we are seldom without our cameras to capture family photos, scenery and nature that’s around us. Painting is one of our favorite things that we do together”.

Painting as Life’s Great Companion

“Painting is a companion with whom one may hope to walk a great part of life’s journey.” -Winston Churchill

Caryl Pomales tells The Rickie Report, “Art has been a treasured companion in my life since early childhood, when I discovered my love for creating vibrant and colorful pieces on any paper or canvas I could get my hands on. Painting has stuck by my side as a close friend during my diversified career paths, in which I explored different fields but couldn’t devote all my time and energy to my true passion. Finally, art has been a long-time friend I’ve been able to reconnect with, greeting me with open arms and welcoming me back, as I’ve made it my career”.

“Rose” by Caryl Pomales

“I personally love thinking of painting as a companion in life. This has felt remarkably applicable in my journey, as it has been a comfort, a joy, and a judgment-free pleasure that I’ve been able to return to time and time again every step of the way. Like a trusted and true companion, my relationship with painting has evolved as my life experience has grown and expanded. Our “conversation topics” and “dialogues” have broadened as I’ve explored more of the world and broadened my horizons. As I have gone on journeys across the globe, I am constantly thinking of my tried-and-true companion. I collect images with this in mind, snapping pictures that inspire me, keeping an eye out for potential subjects, and noticing and appreciating the colors, shapes, people, and animals that surround me. No matter where in the world I have been, I always return home ready to paint”.

“Picasso’s Virtue of Curiosity” by Caryl Pomales

A true passion sticks with you loyally, and is not easy to shake. My personal story serves as evidence of that. Despite my diversified careers, each fulfilling and successful in its own way, I have always found my way back to painting as my companion and true passion. This love, present from my days on the playground, sketching animals in colorful crayons and markers, never dwindled across the years, and has been present throughout a huge portion of my life’s journey.

Untitled by Caryl Pomales

Winston Churchill profoundly noted how painting can accompany you throughout your journey, and I have found this to be an absolute truth in my life. I hope that, whatever your passion may be, you’re able to bring it along with you on your path!

“In The Eyes Of The Beholder”

Featuring the artwork of:

Jeanne Rossi

Free, Opening Reception:

Friday, January 4, 2019

6 – 8  pm

“In The Eyes Of The Beholder” is our 4th judged show of 8 in our Eye-Catching Season of Art. A beholder is someone who sees or otherwise experiences things, becoming aware of them. Not all people have the same opinions about what is attractive. In art, beauty is subjective; and to some, a piece of art being beautiful itself may not warrant one’s attention, but may attract them in other ways; via emotions, skill, colors or subject. Come and see our artist’s work in this show and see what you see. Will you agree with the judge? Along with a Special Exhibition by artist Jeanne Rossi, there will be much to behold. We know you will enjoy the show!
Jeanne Rossi always had a passion for fashion and painting. She continues to paint beautiful, fashionable ladies, today, yet they all depict a sense of searching outside of themselves that convey a sense of pain and uncertainty that she feels prevails in most women. Jeanne especially enjoys portraying Marilyn Monroe and has titled her exhibition “A Tribute to Marilyn”.

Caryl Pomales Shares The Beauty And Tranquility Of Autumn With Paintings, Musings, And A New 2019 Calendar Of Artistic Images

Caryl Pomales brings us autumn with beauty, stillness and a sense of gratitude with her vibrant acrylic paintings. Read her “Artsy Tips & Insights” (free by email) AND order her new 2019 Calendar with 12 images and inspirational quotes.  When you sign up for one of Caryl’s classes, workshops, or make a purchase, she donates a percentage to carefully selected charities that care and find loving homes for less fortunate pets.  Let’s talk about gratitude!  Let’s talk about giving back and supporting original art created locally!  The Rickie Report shares the details and some photos here.

Fine artist, Caryl Pomales

Caryl Pomales tells The Rickie Report, “There is so much beauty, stillness, and gratitude to be found in the moments of serenity at my easel. When life is hectic, I find my peace while painting. Creating a work of art and sharing it with my friends and followers fills my life and my soul with calm and joy”.

She goes on, “Spreading these positive feelings with others is incredibly rewarding, as I’m able to share the serenity I find with others. Whether teaching online or in person, I find immense fulfillment in getting to know fellow artists and creatives as they embark on a journey to improve their skills and contribute to their daily joy”.

Caryl explains, “Painting is a form of meditation for me. Like the water in a lake, when your mind is calm, you can see the depths below; however, when your mind is disturbed, it is easy to get caught up in the waves. Brushstroke by brushstroke, I calm the waters in the lake of my mind to find peace and serenity”.
