UPDATE: The Next Chapter & Expansion

AJ Brockman tells The Rickie Report, “The Brewhouse Gallery is moving forward with our expansion. We’ll have a soft opening in April, so stay posted on our website and Facebook page!  We’ll officially have our Grand Opening on May 16th!  Be ready for a better flow of traffic, expanded draft list, expanded bottle selection, vintage arcade games, communal tables and the all-important expanded FOOD SELECTION. AND we’ll have a 30 foot wall that will be dedicated to a rotating mural project. We will be highlighting some of the area’s best muralists to create a new mural every six months or so. As we have said from day one, it is our goal to create a community around our space and vision. Above all, it is the support of each and every one of you and the belief in what we are doing that has brought all of this to fruition. Cheers!”

The Next Chapter & Expansion

Brewhousenextchapter

At almost one year to the date, AJ Brockman tells The Rickie Report, “The Brewhouse Gallery is proud to announce we are expanding! We will be taking over the next door location (to the West) which was formerly a convenience store. We don’t want to alter the good vibes we have already established, so we’re hoping to have two separate spaces that are connected. This will allow for a better flow of traffic, expanded draft list, expanded bottle selection, vintage arcade games, communal tables and the all-important expanded FOOD SELECTION. What about the art? Well… We will have a 30 foot wall that will be dedicated to a rotating mural project. We will be highlighting some of the area’s best muralists to create a new mural every six months or so. As we have said from day one, it is our goal to create a community around our space and vision. Above all, it is the support of each and every one of you and the belief in what we are doing that has brought all of this to fruition. Here’s to: supporting the arts, live music, the revival of Lake Park, craft breweries that care about their product, independent coffee roasters, the small businessman & one hell of an upcoming year! Cheers!”

Naomi Cordero, a contemporary portrait sculptor and painter for over thirty years, was born and raised in Fairfield, CT. Though mostly self-taught, this innovative artist and Palm Beach Gardens resident honed her skills at the Armory Art Center under the guidance of master portrait sculptors, Muriel Kaplan and Bert Deiner, former President of the Art Students League in New York City, who called her “naturally gifted”. Naomi also refined her painting skills at the Academy of Fine Art & Studio in North Palm Beach.

Within her first few years as a professional artist, Naomi’s work has been shown at various art galleries in Florida including The Frankel Gallery, The Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, FL and The Phillips Fine Art Gallery in Sanibel Island, FL. Currently, Naomi is a resident artist at Art on Park in Lake Park, FL.

"Paris"

Naomi’s style is not a conscious choice. It just comes to her naturally. She expresses what she feels, resulting in an intuitive technique without any preconceived notion of what will appear. What comes out of this free-form process are paintings featuring elongated faces with large, expressive eyes and a strong contrast between light and dark values.

"Muse"

“Muse”

Oil and mixed media are her mediums of choice. After many layers of loose and expressive brushstrokes of oil colors that are swished and dabbed by paint brushes and palette knives, the characters of her portraits reveal themselves through their facial expressions and emotive eyes. By way of surrealism and realism, these larger than life faces form an emotional connection with the everyday art lover allowing that person to see the true beauty that lies within the larger image.

"Daughter and Grandson in the Shadows" by David McEwen

Daughter and Grandson in the Shadows” by David McEwen

When David and Sally moved to Southern France, they  set up a Painting Holiday Centre. David tells The Rickie Report that since then, “we’ve met people who have arranged painting and teaching trips to The Falkland Islands, teaching and exhibiting trips to San Diego and Delray Beach, painting trips to Venice, Barcelona, Jerez, Paris and, well………. basically, all over Europe.  So apart from saying I love Sal to bits; am seriously proud of my grandchildren, I think that painting is the best job in the world…”.

In 2012 David was elected to be an Associate Member of The Society of Equestrian Painters. He is represented by Jaynie Spector of The Dog and Horse Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina and by Dan and Carol Lynne at Forms, Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida. His work has been included in several magazines and The International Artist named him as a “master painter of the world”.

Exploring the Layering Process using Rice Paper, Acrylic & Watercolor with BJ Collister at Art on Park Gallery.   On Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. highly accomplished artist, BJ Collister, will be doing a free demonstration for the Artists of Palm Beach County and the public at the Art on Park Gallery, 800 Park Avenue in Lake Park.
"Shangrila"

“Shangrila”

“Rice paper can enrich any painting medium and I have several different techniques using different methods,” states the artist. “Adding textured papers to your working surface provides an excellent opportunity to develop exquisite textural effects. What I will demonstrate in this session is to explore texture for its own sake.”  She states that this method can be used with watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. “By collaging Oriental paper, you can perform major surgery on paintings that do not meet your own standards of excellence. You can ‘save’ that painting that didn’t work!”, she points out.

"Snow Mountains"

She explains, “Starting with abstract designs, so you can concentrate on texture, I will show you the basic layering process.”  BJ, a graduate of Florida State University, has been painting for many years. She attended several Prestigious Art schools such as Ringling School of Art, Instituto Allende in San Miguel, Mexico and Houston Museum of Fine Art. BJ treasures her private studies with renowned artist Gerald Brommer, author of over 20 art books, and past president of the National Watercolor Society. She has studied Mr. Brommer’s methods for the last 10 years and has taught watercolor and acrylic classes using the rice paper layering process at the Titusville Art League, and in Main Street Gallery in Central Florida. We are lucky to have her expertise in Palm Beach County, so don’t miss this exciting demonstration!

“I’m fascinated by the constant change in what we consider our secure and familiar environment, and I find most satisfaction from painting live, on location,” she tell The Rickie Report. “I hope to capture the energy and essence of what appears right now, particularly those everyday scenes that are so much a part of our lives and that we take for granted until they disappear. Painting from direct observation is to me the most real and honest way to live in that moment.”

Artists of Palm Beach County serves as the much needed connection between artists and also between artists and the community. Many members are new to Palm Beach County and feel both relieved and excited to find an organization that provides networking opportunities and promotes local artists. It also seems the community at large was in need of an organization such as this. Shortly after the organization formed we began seeing calls coming in from local organizations and individuals that wanted to include local artists in their programming!
