The next four prizes are gift certificates of $50 each, from the PEEPS® company.

Joyce Brown tells The Rickie Report, “For the last two years, Sid Walesh has won first place. His works have been extraordinary ones that rotate on a pedestal.  Sid has asked that someone challenge him for first place. Please consider answering this challenge by giving Sid some real competition. It is not that the other entries were not extraordinary. I have always been blown away by your creativity. I think it is the extra complexity, for which the judges have awarded 1st place.”

Rolando Chang Barrero, was born in Coconut Grove, FL and currently resides in West Palm Beach, FL.  After receiving a BFA School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Rolando became an artist and art activist. Pulling together artists from various media and spectrums of life, his own artwork often took a back seat. His famous Art Walks established the Boynton Beach Arts District as the place to be seen.  He assures The Rickie Report that those will continue on a monthly basis, even as he puts his energies into this new gallery in Lake Worth.  His studio remains at 410 West Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach, FL.  In addition, he and Craig McInnis are organizing Art Synergy/Art Palm Beach ART WEEK for January, 2015.

Arty Steam Punk ( It’s a Movement not a Rock Band)

The Rickie Report loves Steam Punk!  Imaginations flow, historical eras meld, creativity has no glass ceiling!  Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery in Lake Worth is offering an exhibit that you simply cannot miss!

Clay Glass Metal Stone Cooperative Gallery

Presents

“SteamPunk”

What in the World is That?

Friday, February 1st
6:00PM to 9:00 PM
605 Lake Avenue in Downtown Lake Worth

A small group of artists at the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery have long been engaged in the creation of SteamPunk, mixed media art. On Friday evening, February 1st, the gallery will feature these works ranging from unique, intricate jewelry to massive over life size sculptures and wall hangings.
Karen McGovern: Cicada

Joyce Brown, Curator, says, “According to eHow, Steampunk art mixes modern ideas and technology with those from the past, namely the Victorian Era.  The genre started with literature but has since evolved to include all art forms.  Steampunk materials are often things found in an old science lab, dumpster or antique shop.  Lots of wood, copper, brass, steel, iron and other heavy metals comprise many of the pieces.  Watch parts, clockworks, rivets, springs, gears and other machinery parts are often incorporated.”
Kelly Manganaro: Statue

The artists in the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery search out both the unique and the mundane elements to recycle into their works of art.  This is truly an ecological, earth friendly expression.

Theo Sable: Muse

Karen McGovern, founder of Beadkeepers.com is an avid Steampunk artist.  Gathering doll parts, metal cast-offs, dials, butterfly wings, insects, old jewelry and machine parts (only a small sampling of what she collects) Karen comes up with original and desirable jewelry adornments for all parts of the body. Her skill in combination of these objects is unique. It would be unlikely you would find a work of art comparable in design and quality to hers. Karen incorporates mixed and repurposed materials, copper and brass pipe and sheet into her designs, along with found objects, antiquities and botanicals.  She donates sales proceeds from her work to the Rare Species Foundation, her organization which works to save rare species from around the planet from extinction.

Kelly Dean Manganaro is a natural born SteamPunk, mixed media artist.  Before the term evolved Kelly collected wood and metal parts, stone and cement, and crafted them into enormous sculptures that make impactful statements outdoors and indoors.  Drawing from his family’s artistic genes, he uses his welding and construction skills to make works that are often wired electrically with light that plays a part in the overall presentation.  An antique dealer as well as sculptor, Kelly is privy to wonderful found objects, a dramatic source in many of his creations.

Theo Sable is new to the concept of SteamPunk, mixed media, but many of the works she creates fall well within the category.  An actress, recently published poet and sculptor, Theo’s SteamPunk side emerges in the wonderful metal worked jewelry she creates.  A gem designer in the jeweler’s district in New York, Theo incorporates all of her skill and expert metal work designs into this SteamPunk collection.

Wednesday thru Saturday, 9AM-9PM.   Gallery openings are the first and third Friday of each month from 6-9 PM with many special events in-between.  For information call Joyce Brown-215-205-9441 or JCLay6@aol.com.  Gallery phone: 561-588-8344
