John tells The Rickie Report, ” I’m a painterly realistic watercolorist. I am very much interested in historical subject matter and my two favorite subjects to paint are houses and boats. The paintings on display at the “Well Read” are nautical scenes, but I do have many architectural landscape painting available, including Key West scenes.”

John had been a commercial artist/illustrator all of his working life, including eight years as an illustrator in the Air Force. ( see The Rickie Report 11/12/2012).  John tried to grasp the character of each home or scene he is rendering.  In this way, each has a special feeling of character or mood.

John wrote and will soon be self-publishing a book about his tour of duty as an illustrator in South Vietnam, in 1968. It is called “Eleven Months and Nineteen Days” and contains 43 illustrations, capturing what he painted there for the Air Force.
