From now through January 6, 2018, the Armory will host the 2nd Biennial of “Artists of Art Salon” curated by Elle Schorr, founder and organizer of Art Salons at the Armory. This exhibition features trends and ideas in contemporary art as seen through the eyes of some of South Florida’s most influential artists, all of whom have given presentations at Elle Schorr’s Art Salons at the Armory Art Center over the past two years. The works, created by twenty-one locally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists will fill the Armory’s Montgomery Hall. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, fiber works, mixed media, videos, and installations will be included in the exhibition to address a wide range of social, cultural, and aesthetic concerns.

Sri Prabha “The Light That Brings Hope”, detail

Art Salons at the Armory have been contributing to the understanding of contemporary art practices in South Florida since April, 2012. Presentations have been given by artists about their own work, about the work of well-known artists who influenced them, and about professional artist development. The first Artists of Art Salon exhibition was in 2015 at the Armory. The show exhibited the work of fifty-seven artists who had spoken at Art Salons.

Kerry Phillips “Table & Yarn”

Elle Schorr said, “I am thrilled to be curating a 2nd exhibition of artists who have spoken at Art Salons. They have collectively become a “Who’s Who” of influential contemporary artists in South Florida. Many are on the faculties at South Florida universities, colleges, and high schools. Many are winners of the prestigious South Florida Cultural Consortium Awards and have exhibited locally, often nationally, and internationally. The work they show to be representative of trends in contemporary conceptual practice, including work using a wide array of materials, techniques, and technologies.”

April 21-May 3:

“It’s Not Easy Being Green”

April 21-May 3: “It’s Not Easy Being Green” Earth Day occurs on April 22 this year. This show pays homage to the earth. Jump into this show if you are En Plein Air, conservationists, or activists who want to save this planet. We have invited Everglades artists to join us, as they use their works to save the Everglades. Once again, this title, as all of our titles, are totally up to your interpretation.

May 12- May 24 :

“Derby Days”

Gallery View

May 12- May 24 : “Derby Days”: This is our show with a “Horse” theme, re-titled. We have a number of equestrian enthusiasts who have been working in our studio, visiting our gallery and asking for works that involve horses. The show is being held earlier this year to reach the equestrian community before they leave the area for the summer.

May 26-June 7:

 “Birds of a Feather”

May 26-June 7 “Birds of a Feather”  This show is opened to photographers, painters, sculptors, potters, jewelers and all fine artists who love our feathered friends. Again, if this does not evoke “bird” in you, and you can interpret this in any other way, you works are welcome

June 23-July 5

“Hook Line and Sinker”

Artwork by Jennifer Love Gironda

June 23-July5 “Hook Line and Sinker”We go from the air and tree tops, to the deep blue sea with this show. Nautical themes are what we anticipate, with lots and lots of fish and sea creatures. Once again, if this does not evoke “fish” in you, you can interpret this in any other way.

July 7- July 19:

“Shoe Fetish/ Foot Fetish”

Shoe Fetish Gallery View

July 7- July 19: “Shoe Fetish/ Foot Fetish” This proved to be last year’s favorite show among our patrons who purchased more works than in any other show of the year . We like adding some levity to the hot summer by introducing the foot theme into our mix. Let’s get some pictures of these works into the gallery a few weeks early so we can get some more TV coverage on this. We want to bring the shoe loving crowds into the gallery to purchase your works. Last year some retired shoe manufacturers came into the gallery to buy.

August 4-August 16:

“Peanuts Rising”

Artwork by Bea Doone-Merena

August 4-August 16: “Peanuts Rising” formerly known as “The Male Form” We are repeating this successful special request exhibition. As in the past, this special show came from artists who felt slighted by the creations and shows that mostly feature the female form. They wanted equal time We welcome your interpretations.

August 18 to August 30

” Bread and Roses”

?????   Your Interpretation ?????

August 18 to August 30- ” Bread and Roses” in honor of Women’s Equality Day. The title, “Bread and Roses”, came from the 1912 Laurence Mill strike where women fought for their rights, asking for raises for bread, but for roses in their lives as well. This exhibition honors women, their contribution to the world and to art. Just being a woman in the arts (with or without a message) brings honor to the exhibit.

September 1-September 20th

September 1-September 20th- “Speak Their Names” Revisited: A Special Invitation Show.

October 6- October 18:

“The Petting Zoo”

Artwork by Gin Blische

October 6 – October 18: “The Petting Zoo” formerly know at the Cat-O-Strophic Event: This wildly popular was all about cats, and now, all other animals. Cats of every shape, color and kind, and their brothers and sisters in the animal kingdom. We will again reach out to all of the animal rescue venues, pet shops and veterinarians as we publicize this event.

October 20-November 1

“Halloween, Freaky”

Gallery View With Artist Yury Lobo

October 20-November 1: “Halloween, Freaky” replaces the Annual “Day(s) of the Dead” Lake Worth is now doing “Day of the Dead,” so we thought we would encompass a wider range of the Halloween Scene this year. Delray Art League Announces Next Meeting Featuring JoAnn Nava, Numerous Exhibits And Call For New Members

The Delray Art League (DAL) invites you to their next monthly meeting on November 9th. JoAnn Nava will present and demonstrate. For over 30 years, JoAnn used her painting skills in the trades of decorative painting, murals, faux finishing and restorations. The result is visible in the painting she’s been producing in her fine art. Manipulating latex house paint has challenges different from acrylic and oil. It is a visual language all its own. In this demonstration, a painting will be created from a limited color palette. Viewing artists will see the advantages of using this medium by itself or as a substrate for other mediums.  The Rickie Report shares the details about this event and upcoming exhibits.  DAL is a terrific artist networking organization.  Stop by !
