Amber Moran, one of the Martin Artisans Guild artists exhibiting at the Palm Room in Stuart, FL

Amber M. Moran is a watercolor and ink artist residing in Hobe Sound, Florida, home to some of the most beautiful natural areas in the state.  Her artistic style of “Thinking out of the box” creates a unique “window” and colorful take on the Florida lifestyle. She gains inspiration from the sights and sounds, including the beaches, canals and nearby fishing villages. She draws the viewer into each painting so they feel as if they are swimming in the coral with the fish, canoeing under the cypress trees, and hearing the sounds blowing through the palm trees. A regional, national and international award-winning artist, Amber’s distinct style and riotous colors share her passion for coastal conservation. “I have always felt very passionate about color and detail.”

“Life Under The Dock” by Amber Moran

Amber attended SUNY Alfred State where she earned her Computer Art and Design degree. She continued on to the University at Buffalo and earned her Bachelors in Studio Art.  Amber then earned her Master’s degree in General Education as a Graduate Assistant at Elmira College in New York State.  In 2015 Amber was in the top five of the Next Bealls Florida Artist Competition and in 2016 she partnered with Bealls Florida and created numerous fine art designs for men and women’s apparel, home goods and accessories. She has been published many times in the Marlin International Magazine and was the Billfish Foundation 2015 Featured Artist of the Year.  She has been the featured poster artist for the juried ArtiGras Fine Art Festival, Hobe Sound Festival of the Arts, the Stuart ArtsFest and the 2020 Cedar Key, Old Florida Festival of the Arts. She has created designs for well-known sport fishing tournaments such as the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City, NC and the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic in Destin, FL.

She has designed the Annual Martin County Lionfish Round-Up designs each year from the tournaments beginning 9 years ago. Amber’s artwork hangs proudly on walls all over the United States and internationally.  Amber’s passion for coastal conservation not only enhances her art, but also encourages her and her husband’s two Florida born boys to care for and protect our wildlife and marine environment.  Amber tells The Rickie Report, “I gain inspiration every day from sights and sound, including our Florida beaches, canals and nearby fishing villages.  My goal is to draw you in as the viewer, into my art. I want to help the viewer focus in on a particular section of my artwork while seeing the whole picture. I achieve this by creating a focus that casts a “window” of color on a section of the painting with watercolor paints. I then extend my work out onto the mat with black watercolor paint and ink. I like to think of this as “thinking outside the box”.

“Loggerhead Taxi Service” by Amber Moran

Amber Moran was born on a farm in central New York State and learned to love the outdoors and the value of hard work. She and her brother raised and sold flowers and pumpkins which helped pay their way through college. Amber was always drawing or painting trees and animals.  Her parents were talented artisans who always encouraged her art and after her first visit to an art gallery, Amber knew that art was her calling.  Amber received an Associates Degree in Computer and Art Design from SUNY Alfred State and earned a Bachelors Degree in Studio Art at the University of Buffalo and worked toward a Masters Degree in General Education at Elmira College.

Her love of watercolors came years later when she began painting again when her children were small.  She stopped trying to be so intricate and went with the flow and had fun.  This led her to thinking outside the box and using ink to add illustrations over the layered and textured water colors.  She is influenced by the tropical setting in Florida and combines watercolor and ink creating a unique and colorful take on the coastal lifestyle.

Amber and her husband and children moved to Martin County in 2004 and are very  involved in environmental causes.  She is a member of the Bullfish Foundation with their Lionfish Program and creates and donates art for the Lionfish Roundup each year.  She works with the Association of Environmental Professionals and with different Sports Fishing Tournaments who donate to specific organizations.  She also belongs to the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce and the Martin County Arts Council.  She has won many awards, is featured in local  magazines and shows her art work in many venues throughout Florida.

Amber tells The Rickie Report, “I’m in love with the vastness of the ocean, the mystery of the Florida canals and rivers and the peacefulness of the bush where the only sound is the palms blowing in the wind”.

The Wellington Art Society is a non-profit charitable organization in its 37th year.
