You know they say, “Variety is the spice of life!” The Lighthouse ArtCenter offers you many opportunities to sample a wide selection of art mediums and techniques at their Workshops and Select Fridays. There are workshops for every level of artist, from beginner to professional. Anyone who wants to hone their skills and have fun in the process needs to read this article! Plein Air
Capture the beauty and light of the outdoors! Composition, values, color, edges, and paint manipulation will be taught in this class. Oil paints are preferred, but acrylic or pastels are acceptable. Locations TBA. Beginner to advanced.

Introductory Animation: The Magic of Motion
Students will learn how to draw metamorphosis, walking cycles, squash and stretch, and blur and resistance. Working in traditional, hand drawn, frame by frame animation, each student will complete a series of exercises in order to gain a better understanding and insight of how movement can be captured on paper and how the creators of your favorite animated films make magic! All levels welcome.

Paint Cityscapes in Oil
We will start by painting some simple street scenes, and then move up to larger, more dramatic cityscapes. Each day’s demo will include discussions on composition, massing, building form, light and shadow, near and far, capturing and developing atmospheric distance, and, knowing when a work is finished (learning how to not overwork your painting). Douglas will cover simple street scenes with one and two point perspective, along with day and night scenes, with and without people and autos. Plan to produce several paintings in this studio workshop. Must have a working knowledge of oil.

Jewelry Workshop – Flush/Burnish Setting Round Stones
This workshop will have you flush/burnish setting round stones in no time at all! Learn how to make your own flush setting tool, become familiar with the principles of why flush setting works and how to trouble shoot problems before and after they happen, and finally, test your work for long lasting results. Requirements include moderate hand strength and vision magnification devices. All levels welcome.

In this 3-day workshop we will explore some of the endlessly beguiling processes of portrait painting. We will look at different approaches from the masters of this genre both past and present. Visiting Artist: Jamie Kirkell
This exciting 3-day workshop will explore design, color, and painting on silk. Design techniques are easy to apply and painting florals are perfect for this art form. We will complete three scarves by the end of the third day. Classes are taught in an open, relaxed manner. All levels welcome.

Cuff Bracelets
Come one, come all. Invite your friends, spouse or partner. Bring your favorite beverage and appetizers. Students will learn to make their own personalized cuff bracelet using sterling silver. Each student will learn to form, texture, file, patina and finish their bracelet and leave with a finished piece of jewelry. All levels.

Creative Acrylic Pouring
Bring your creative imagination, and your favorite bottle of wine, to a new and fun acrylic pouring Select Friday Night. You’ll be creating your own palettes while learning how the pouring medium reacts to the acrylics, forcing the medium to grow and produce a vibrant and colorful piece of art. Toast to Ghost Date Night
While viewing the smooth moves of Patrick Swayze and the stunning looks of Demi Moore in the Romantic/Drama “Ghost”, you and your date will learn how to throw pots on the potter’s wheel. Each participant will walk away with his/her very own creation. Please wear clothes that may get clay on them. Over 21 only, bring your own beverages. Food/snacks will be provided by ArtCenter. Love-Struck-Couples Ring Making
Come join us for a date night, bring your girlfriend/boyfriend, spouse, partner or best friend, your favorite beverages and light bites and join us for a night of fun. Make a sterling silver ring for yourself or one for your significant other, the choice is yours. During this workshop each student will learn to cut, form, solder, texture and patina their ring. All levels welcome.

Alcohol Inks
A new type of drawing beyond the typical pencil, charcoal and pastel….we are using alcohol inks. You’ll be creating and experimenting with inks to create landscapes, floral and abstract images, and whatever you desire. We will learn how to use the Inks and what substrates work best with the inks. Inks and paper are included.
