Nathan D. Rosen Museum Gallery’s Art 2018 Biennial Juried Exhibition Opens To Public February 15th

The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception and Awards Presentation of the Nathan D. Rosen Museum Gallery’s Art 2018 Biennial Juried Exhibition on Thursday, February 15th.  With submissions from 125 artists from 14 states in the categories of paintings, photography, graphics, mixed media, wood, clay, metal, glass, fiber art, and sculptures, judge Rachel Gustafson selected 87 works by 73 artists. The public is invited to attend the Opening Reception and Awards Presentation of the Nathan D. Rosen Museum Gallery’s Art 2018 Biennial Juried Exhibition on Thursday, February 15th.  With submissions from 125 artists from 14 states in the categories of paintings, photography, graphics, mixed media, wood, clay, metal, glass, fiber art, and sculptures, judge Rachel Gustafson selected 87 works by 73 artists. Those works will be adjudicated again, and prizes awarded for Best in Show ($1,000), Fine Craft Art Award ($500) and three Awards of Merit ($250) each.

Judge Rachel Gustafson:

J. Rachel Gustafson is the Assistant Curator at the Norton Museum of Art. She joined the museum in 2015 and recently organized the exhibitions, French Connections: Photography (2017) and Pen to Paper: Artists’ Handwritten Letters from the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art (2017). In this role, her responsibilities include arts administration, exhibition planning and acquisition research related to the museum’s collection. Previously, Gustafson served as a contributing writer for the National Endowment of the Arts’ various publications while earning her masters in art history at American University in Washington, D.C. She was later awarded a fellowship at the National Museum for Women in the Arts and assisted in the organization of Total Art: Contemporary Video (2014).

 

 

 

 

The Phyllis & Harvey Sandler Center at the Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center provides a welcoming environment and a sense of community for active adults of all ages to pursue high quality and enriching educational, cultural, social and recreational experiences. Membership is not required to participate in programs. The Levis JCC welcomes individuals of all ages, races, and religious affiliations living in South Florida.

As a non-profit organization, our mission is to promote public interest in the visual arts and to provide financial support to art students attending our local Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University as well as art students attending Palm Beach County High Schools. The proceeds from this event will help us continue our mission. Last year there were 136 students accepted into the competition.

In keeping with our theme, we’ll spend the morning using creative ways to paint on canvas Beach Bags. An elegant gourmet lunch will follow.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in a Fabulous Chinese Auction (baskets filled with fantastic gifts), a Silent Auction (Works of art donated by member artists), and an AMAZING Grand Prize Drawing which includes an AMA Waterways European Riverboat Cruise 8 days/7 nights for two (valid for a Balcony Stateroom in March, April, November or December of 2017/2018. Dining is Gourmet, Staterooms are Deluxe and only has 150 passengers); Angela Yang’s full size painting of “Art of the Sea”; and a phenomenal Paper Sculpture; by International artist, Francine Levinson.

The National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) announces their season premiere exhibition with “Image Makers, GardensArt”.  Artists have prepared 6″x6″ canvases which will be for sale during the show.  Proceeds go toward their scholarship program for high school art students.

A special award has been added!  One of the artists will be chosen to have a One person show for GardensArt, which will be selected by GardensArt supervisor, Amy Stepper.  Juror, Victoria Skinner, Visual Artist and Adjunct Professor at Florida Atlantic University will award cash Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Judge’s Recognition.

The National Association Of Women Artists, (NAWA)  is the oldest professional women’s art association in the USA. The Florida Chapter is its only regional chapter in the country.  Member’s art work is juried into the association at headquarters in New York City.

On January 6, 1995, the first and only chapter of this prestigious art association was founded in Florida by Liana Moonie, of Palm Beach and Connecticut, a past president of National, along with Madeline Weiss, of West Palm Beach, the first local president of N.A.W.A. Florida Chapter. The Florida Chapter carries out the mission of the National Association of Women Artists, Inc. with regional exhibitions, seminars and other educational activities as well as sponsoring annual scholarships for talented High School art students toward the college of their choice. Our exhibition venues have included the Armory Art Center, Northwood University, and Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm Beach, Coral Springs Museum of Art, Gardensart at Palm Beach Gardens City Hall, The Cornell Museum of Art and History, Delray Beach, the Capital Building Gallery in Tallahassee and various Northern Trust Banks throughout the state.
