About the Artists:

Husband and Wife Team, Julia and Robin Rogers tell The Rickie Report, ” We are enlivened by the inherent qualities of molten glass; its luminosity, viscosity, and seductive flow.  Our interdisciplinary approach incorporates blown and sculpted glass with electronics, sound, light, shadow, and a host of other materials. Inspiration is around us all, our work is specifically driven by humanity, nature, science, and music. Collaboratively, we meld our ideas into, what hopefully are, contemplative, intriguing, and thought provoking works. In addition to sculpture, we create installation and performance”.

“Dancer” by Julia and Robin Rogers

Some of their series include, “Animalia Fantastica,” “Sentient & Sapient,” and “Architecture of the Mind.”  “Animalia Fantastica” is a series of blown/sculpted anthropomorphic glass figures.  Since the advent of human expression, animalia has been a driving source of inspiration. In fact, the oldest cave paintings depict animals and the hunt. This narrative continues in “Animalia Fantastica” touching on nourishment and sustainability.  “Sentient & Sapient” is a series of blown glass heads with mixed media that delves into our subject’s psyche.  These pieces physically and metaphorically open up to reveal the interior workings of the mind.  In “Architecture of the Mind,” heads are turned into buildings and the occupants and history of these buildings tell the story of the subject. Looking through the windows the dynamics of life are ever present.

“Sassy” by Julia and Robin Rogers

“With performance and installation, we are able to broaden our ideas, creating a larger picture. Ideas of collective conscious, life cycles, perception, and an advancing technological civilization are prevalent in this work.  In the “Journey,” a performance, using a video projected and reflected in a pool of water, we tell a story that begins in a modern, active city in the rain and takes viewers backward through time to the beginning of all life on earth.  We use hot glass in this piece to represent the primordial ooze where life first emerged. We are two artists living, breathing, and working together.  Our minds never stop imagining the possibilities of what can be explored, discovered, shared, and executed”.

The HOT New PLACE in TOWN:

The hot new place to be this season is located in an Historic FEC Train Depot building in the heart of the City of Lake Worth, Florida. The 14,000 square foot Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts is attracting hundreds of interested people to its brand new hot shop. With three glory holes and two furnaces they have been scheduling back-to-back classes ever since they reopened in October.

All throughout the Summer, Founder, JB Berkow along with Anita Holmes, Executive Director and Rick Eggert, Creative Director have worked hard to design an impressive line up of programming for the upcoming season.

They have four outstanding, world renowned Visiting Glass Artists coming to the center in 2016. These events will be three-day affairs. Thursday nights will be a private sit-down-dinner party where the artist will talk about their processes and inspirations. Friday nights will be a gallery opening centering around the visiting artist’s works and featuring two dimensional works by local artists.

Finally, Saturday will be an afternoon demonstration by the visiting artist. Never before has there been this type of opportunity for Palm Beach County residents to meet and greet four of the top glass artists in the world and have the rare chance to learn about their processes, inspirations and actually see them creating. Visit the Center’s website to view the details and to register and pay for the Thursday and Friday night events.

The first of these events will coincide with the Lake Worth Art Synergy Event, which the Benzaiten Center is hosting for the second year in a row. Last year they had 32 local artists and organizations taking part in a mini-art-fair within the empty 5,000 square foot space of the building that will eventually house their fine art metal foundry. This year the highlight and kick-off to the event will be world-renowned glass artist, Laura Donefer, conducting a glass-blowing demo from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, January 23. After that, will be an Art Synergy Awards Ceremony. Festivities will continue until 8pm with live music, light nibbles, wine and beer and is open to the public free of charge.

They also have a stimulating series of lectures that started in December and recurs every first Tuesday of the month from 6pm – 8pm. Every second Wednesday of the month they hold a Hump of the Hump Happy Hour from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in the evening featuring a glass blowing demo, wine, beer, and live entertainment. Besides all of that there are several fundraisers planned for the 2016 season including their signature event, ‘Glasstronomique,’ a ‘Casablanca Casino Night,’ and a cocktail party in the home of a major glass collector. They will also hold a community ‘Summer Solstice’ party in June. Again, check out our website for dates, times and registration details.

Besides all of this, they offer a myriad of classes for first time glass blowers plus the ability for professionals to rent studio time in the hot shop. They also offer tours of the center, team building events, school field trips and kids programming. Soon they will be offering flame working classes and rental time in a Flame Working Studio that will be built shortly thanks to a large State Cultural Facilities Grant that the center was awarded last year.

Vicki Siegel Exhibits Acrylic and Mixed Media Paintings at Multiple Venues

With work in multiple venues, including a SOLO show, artist Vicki Siegel has been pouring her creative energy into new work and organizing a SOLO exhibit with a range of work from the last ten years.  Her paintings include images of both collective and personal memories. The Rickie Report is pleased to share the details of her exhibits and hopes you will stop by to view some of her wonderful, dreamlike creations.

VICKI SIEGEL EXHIBITS AT MULTIPLE VENUES

Vicki Siegel’s paintings are informed by memory, both personal and collective. “Memories are imperfect representations of the past that are altered, fragmented, reconstructed and reinterpreted over time” says Siegel. “In my narrations details are found in layers often revealing something forgotten or missing from actual experiences or by the collective memories we share”.

"Gioia"

“Gioia” by Vicki Siegel (Acrylic and Image Transfer)

In her first SOLO show, “Journeys”, artist Vicki Siegel takes the viewer on an artistic journey from the outside world to a world that exists in the imagination. The exhibition takes place at the Weisman Delray Community Center, January 21, 2014- March 2, 2014. The Center is located at 7091 W. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Hours are Monday – Thurs. 9 am – 5 pm, Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. A reception with a brief artist talk will be held Sunday, February 16th from 2-4 pm. Free and open to the public. Call 561-558-2100.  “Journeys” runs January 21, 2014- March 2, 2014.

With over twenty five paintings on display, from landscapes to figurative, these colorful works of art reflect the artist’s focus on both the spiritual and natural worlds. Many have a dreamlike calming atmosphere. Expressive use of acrylic paint with overlays of pencil, charcoal, and oil stick drawing, along with image transfers of photographs will delight the viewer.

A portion of the sales will benefit The Weisman Delray Community Center. It is part of the Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service. The Center is located at 7091 W. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Call 561-558-2100 for more information.
