“In The Eyes Of The Beholder”

Featuring the artwork of:

Jeanne Rossi

Free, Opening Reception:

Friday, January 4, 2019

6 – 8  pm

“In The Eyes Of The Beholder” is our 4th judged show of 8 in our Eye-Catching Season of Art. A beholder is someone who sees or otherwise experiences things, becoming aware of them. Not all people have the same opinions about what is attractive. In art, beauty is subjective; and to some, a piece of art being beautiful itself may not warrant one’s attention, but may attract them in other ways; via emotions, skill, colors or subject. Come and see our artist’s work in this show and see what you see. Will you agree with the judge? Along with a Special Exhibition by artist Jeanne Rossi, there will be much to behold. We know you will enjoy the show!
Jeanne Rossi always had a passion for fashion and painting. She continues to paint beautiful, fashionable ladies, today, yet they all depict a sense of searching outside of themselves that convey a sense of pain and uncertainty that she feels prevails in most women. Jeanne especially enjoys portraying Marilyn Monroe and has titled her exhibition “A Tribute to Marilyn”.

“Exposure” At Artisans On The Ave Showcases Photography In A Different Light

Three photographers will be showcased at Artisans On The Ave’s next Exhibition, “Exposure, A Photographic Journey”.  Their images make the viewer pause, as they use the adjective philosophically.  Understanding the need of certain times for “exposure”  within the photographic medium is not enough.  EJ Morales, Susan Oakes and Lorayne Vitrone take us on a life journey.  The Rickie Report shares a few sneak peeks and all of the details for this September 18th Free Public Opening Reception.

“Old school” photography using the basic black and white print film is still in vogue today. Many of the new techniques include color tinting, different backgrounds, or photoshop. The various applications alter and enhance the images bringing to life the photographs we enjoy.

EJ was introduced to a more human and emotional side of photography. During the next few years, EJ experienced the opportunity to travel globally and study with well-known photographers. Around this time, a passion for SCUBA diving dating back to adolescence motivated EJ to take his camera underwater. EJ continues to create engaging imagery reflecting both the local flavor as well as far-flung topics from above and below the water.

Chernobyl, Ukraine exploded creating the world’s worst nuclear disaster. The nearby town of Pripyat was contaminated to such a level that it required an evacuation.  The few images you will see are part of a series. These images were all made in one of the town’s school buildings which served as one of the final assembly areas for the evacuation. As is human nature, many people would show up to evacuate with more belongings than there was room for and the authorities would essentially order them to throw the excess in a corner and hurry along to the next bus.

Having never been a person with merely one goal, one purpose, Susan Oakes has traveled a multifaceted educational and vocational road which continues to enlighten and reveal lifelong purpose to her. She aims to show that art and technology are not antagonistic, but can coexist and should be used to enhance each other in new and exciting ways. Working in traditional media as well as digitally, she seeks to demonstrate that computer hardware and software are artistic tools, not unlike a paintbrush or piece of charcoal, and can be used to expand the artist’s vision.

Lorayne Vitrone  tells us, ” When looking through my camera lens, life takes on a completely different perspective… a microcosm of light, shadows, shapes and movement.  My goal as a photographer is to evoke emotion for you allowing you room for your response. I hope to capture your attention to the detail I see through the lens and then bring to you feelings that you would never expect and always remember”.
