Delray Art League Expands Its Programs, Open To All Artists And Arts Organizations As DAL Prepares For 55th Anniversary

The Delray Art League (DAL) announces its new “Artists and Easels” events throughout downtown Delray Beach. DAL hosts First Friday Art Walks at SubCulture Coffee on Atlantic Avenue the 1st Friday of each month and will be adding Pop-up locations near Old School Square.  DAL celebrates its 55th Anniversary in 2021 and is planning its “Vision 2020” Art Festival in the fall and spring of 2021. All events will be listed with ZAPP and are open to members, prospective members, artists from other organizations, and all local artists. DAL encourages artist conversations, meeting new friends, and enjoying the local arts community in Delray Beach.  Best of all, it’s FREE!  The Rickie Report shares the details here.

Ron Rizzi, President of the Delray Art League tells The Rickie Report, “The Delray Art League will celebrate its 55th Anniversary in 2021. We’re preparing for this grand event as we formulate plans for our Vision 2020 Art Festival in the Fall of 2020 through the Spring of 2021. As we schedule these new events and select locations in and around Delray Beach, we’ll be using ZAPP for event registration. Events will be listed there for our members and also prospective members and artists from other organizations. The jury process and event application for each show will make it simpler for everyone to participate”.

DAL will continue with its new “Artists and Easels” events in 2020 throughout downtown Delray Beach. It hosts First Friday Art Walk at SubCulture Coffee on Atlantic Avenue the first Friday of each month beginning at 6 PM. We encourage our League members and meetup.com/Delray-Art-League members to come, join in the fun and bring one of their artworks to be displayed on their easel out front on Atlantic Avenue.

More pop up locations will be added near Old School Square and on Atlantic Avenue later this month and meetup.com/Delray-Art-League will be the best place to follow Artists and Easels events. It’s simple to RSVP as a Delray Art League member or as a MeetUp.com member. These events are open to all local artists in the community. We encourage artist conversations, meeting new friends and enjoying the Local Arts Community together in Delray Beach!  Best of all it’s Free!

As a new season begins, the Delray Art League (DAL) invites new members, art lovers, and the public to their new home in the Heart of Delray Gallery.  Over 20 member artists display their work together in this beautiful setting.  On Wednesday, December 18, they’ll collect wrapped art supplies, brushes, small canvas, colored pencils, and paint, rather than toys to support our community arts education effort this Holiday season. DAL has teamed up with St. Paul’s Church in Delray downtown for ‘Art Meets Music’ events.  There is an OPEN ARTIST CALL to all artists in the surrounding area for exhibit and display space available for members of other like-minded artist organizations beginning December 14 – 15 at Veteran’s Park. Members of DAL also have opportunities to exhibit at Delray Beach City Hall and the Chamber!  The Rickie Report shares all of these details, including a few sneak peeks.  This is a wonderful artist-networking organization – check it out!  And as their new slogan says, “Art Lovers Wanted”!  We add: “Artists Wanted”!

Ron Rizzi, President of the Delray Art League (DAL) brings his graphic art, photography, advertising, marketing, and technology background to take this well established group in new directions.  He tells The Rickie Report, “In May, we decided to create a few new ways to reach out to our members and also to those that have a love and passion for art whether it be painting, photography, sculpture, glass, drawing or multi media. The first thing I thought of was how and who would we like to reach out to in the community and surrounding areas”.

Patricia Deck “Surreal Tulips”

From using Meetup.com to outreach at SubCulture Coffee in Delray Beach, to offering gatherings for demos and discussions at Jerry’s Artarama in Deerfield on the 3rd Monday of the month, there are many interaction points for artists, both striving and accomplished, to learn and grow!  The Rickie Report is a strong advocate for artists to network with each other, so we give kudos to DAL for achieving this!

The Heart Of Delray Gallery

The next hurdle was to find a new gallery “home”, with which Dan Cianciotto, owner/curator of The Heart of Delray Gallery” helped DAL succeed.  DAL has space in the gallery for over 20 Delray Art League Artists to display their work and call The Heart of Delray Gallery home.  On Wednesday, December 18, DAL will collect wrapped art supplies, brushes, small canvas, colored pencils, and paint, to support our community arts education effort this Holiday season.

Marcos Porcayo “Moods”

Mixing art and music sounded like a great idea, as DAL teamed up with St. Paul’s Church in Delray downtown where ‘Art Meets Music’ and their classical and chamber music concert series continues to be a hit. Ron says, “Baroque cello and violin, easel and acrylic paint – and we were off on any given Sunday having some serious fun without tent pegs, wind weights and mesh”.

Roxanne Lewis  “La Bamba”

Ron shares, ” We expect to continue the tradition of our outdoor shows around downtown Delray and as Old School Square space became a premium we were lucky to have plenty of room at Veteran’s Park. We thought it may be merrier if we opened up Veteran’s Park spaces to our neighbors in Boca, Lake Worth and Wellington and beyond. So there is now an OPEN ARTIST CALL to all in the surrounding area! We have exhibit and display space available for members of other like-minded artist organizations to join us in Delray beginning December 14th – 15th. Space is a nominal fee. Insurance rider costs are $30 per exhibitor. We will have to hear from our neighbors before December 11th to plan accordingly to accommodate those that would like to join us at Veteran’s Park. I hope they will”.  The call to artists is included in this article.

Presentation of

Hope Kahn’s Pin-Hole Photography

“The photograph is but the bridge that provides the emotional and spiritual connection between the viewer and the art. I look for the darkness in the light, the mystery in the everyday. I spend my time blending nature and the figure into a narrative for the viewer. My mind is wandering, wondering, where my next image hides. I concede to my impulses and instincts to bring mysteries to light.”

About Edrian’s Sculptures:

Edrian loves making art that evokes thought and emotion. Exposure to different mediums through her life experience is clear in her work. The story telling qualities and character development of children’s books is evident in all of her figurative ceramic sculptures. The textures and finishes are very painterly, while shapes, patterns, or typeface treatments are evocative of her graphic design background.

Edrian Thomidis’ newest figurative ceramic sculptures are motivated by her interaction with life and the fluidity of its transitions. Human experiences and moments inspire the characters and the symbols that have meaning behind her figurative sculptures. Edrian’s work is inspired by situations in life that most people can relate to. The interpretation is left to the audience and is characterized by the familiar metaphors found in each piece.  They are each unique in their theme while capturing the overall concept of moving through life.

The individual subject matter in each piece invites us to think about life as a journey, adventure or a crossing. To pause and reflect about moments of faith, desire, loss or any other moment where emotions are involved.

*Art for a Cause: Opening Benefiting The Kids Cancer Foundation

Edrian Thomidis is a strong supporter of the Kids Cancer Foundation and has chosen to donate 10% of all proceeds from the opening reception to the Foundation.

Kids Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, founded in 2001 whose mission is to provide hope and support to local children and families battling childhood cancer and/or blood disorders. We accomplish this by providing compassionate, easily accessible, supportive care services.
