“Purr maid” by Mia Lindberg

Over fifty years ago, Mia’s love of art was nurtured on her family farm in rural PA.  The abundance of red clay, fauna, flora, slate fences of rust and verde, earthen -colored lichen, and moss covered mountain sides created memories for her artist palette.  Although clay had always been one of her interests, her scholastic focus was  with horticulture and applied plant sciences.  It was her search for just the right pottery vessel to nurture one of her projects that lead her to the Ceramics Lab.  She says, “I realized that plants were just a road leading me back to my true passion…and I changed my major to Ceramics”!

Mia and students at classes

Mia tells The Rickie Report, “Art has the ability to capture the soul of all who dare to enter its doors. I have had the privilege of holding those doors wide open. The rich earthen colors, evocative textures and strong design concepts of vistas past, seduce me, I need only to follow. Freedom is my guide when traditional theologies are questioned and ethereal paths are chosen. Bridging the space between life and impermanence with both vessel and sculpture has been a wonder filled journey. My work represents the beam of light that beckons me to test all the boundaries; ‘Come in’, it whispers, ‘the road is long and the art of creation abounds’….”

“Beauty And the Eye of the Beholder” by Mia Lindberg

Lindberg’s artistry has been exhibited Nationally in venues such as the Backus Gallery, Armory Art Center, Zafka Gallery,5th Biennial Invitational Fulcra (CA), Elliott Museum, Design Color Concepts (Ft. Lauderdale), Grandfather Mountain (NC), Stuart Cultural Art Center, Lighthouse ArtCenter and more invitational exhibits throughout the US.  Mia is the Founder of the Ceramics League of Martin County and a longstanding  member of the Cultural Arts Center of Martin County.  She has taught both in and out of local school districts as well as with prison populations.

Classes for all ages and all levels of experience are available

In 2012, Mia’s work was featured in a publication, “She’s Come Undone”, Lark Books, 500 Raku “Bold Explorations of Dynamic Ceramic Technique”.  Her work has been commissioned internationally and can be found as Art in Public Places in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, England, Germany, and Italy.  Mia worked for 3 years in apprenticeship with world renown Dorothy Becken. In addition, Mia is  accomplished in metalsmithing, jewelry, fiber, glass and wood.

Workshops are available year long from both local and visiting artists.

Classes and studio time are available year round, whether advanced or novice, our motto is “Come Clay With Us”.  In mid-January, 2018 Clay Habit will participate in the Martin County Open Studio Tour in January.
