Gin Blische’s Creations Are NOT Stuffed Animals! Meet This Master Needle Felter And Her Menagerie On October 19th At Artisans On The Ave

Wool sculptor, Gin Blische has created quite the niche for herself here in Palm Beach County. Needle-felted sculpture is unique in South Florida, but she feels just fine being a big colorful fish in a small tropical pond.  Her commitment to her art is the reason she has an impressive collection of unique creations on display at Artisans On The Ave Gallery in Lake Worth, Florida. Her colorful menagerie of creatures will sometimes have you doing a double take! How did a raccoon get into the Gallery window!  Her sculptures of all things woolen have garnered the interest of collectors from here to Hollywood CA where she was commissioned by FOX TV Network to create two sculptures for a TV show set.  Meet Gin on Friday, October 19th at Artisans on the Ave for their “Fantasy & Fairy Tales” Opening Reception!   The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks!

A multitalented individual, Gin is also a member of INHOUSE, a South Florida based band she founded with her twin Sister. INHOUSE has performed with artists like Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Bonnie Raitt and Ziggy Marley among others. Recently, she is splitting her time between sculpting and preparing for the INHOUSE, 20th Anniversary Reunion Concert at the Norton Museum of Art’s, Art After Dark on February 22.

Display of Gin’s Creations at Artisans On The Ave Gallery

Working out of her home studio in Lake Clarke Shores, Florida, Gin surrounds herself with a palette of naturally dyed English sheep’s wool, llama wool and angora, just waiting to be turned into something fantastical!  Gin tells The Rickie Report, “I’m sure I am not alone when I say that expression can be the most important element of any sculpture or painting. When I use the term “expression,” I mean it quite literally, although people express themselves in their art no matter what their subject or medium.  I’m just not that deep with my creations. I create to create emotion, but that emotion comes from the expressions on the faces and posture of each of my sculptures.  Many people have said they see me in my work. My eyes, my expressions, no matter the creation”.

She goes on to say, “Making creations that look like Gin the bear, Gin the owl, Gin the bird. Before you start thinking of me as a narcissist, please don’t. It may happen inadvertently. I may be creating my twin sister, the woman dearest to my heart.  I’ve stared at my face my entire life without looking in the mirror. It’s no wonder my sculptures look a little like me.  When I look at them though, I see the eyes of my dog Ralph. He had the most sensitive eyes.  I loved to look into them while I pet his brow. He filled me with so much love. I try to recreate that emotion with every piece I create. Sometimes I almost get there. :)”

Gin is the daughter of artist Herbert Weintraub, who is best known for his oil and acrylic cityscapes and nautical and rural American paintings. Perhaps this is why the idea of creating art as a career is not foreign to her. She spent many hours admiring her Dad, hard at work at his easel. Her youth was spent going to art shows in Greenwich Village and Central Park. She studied Fashion Design and Illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York before embarking on a career in Fashion throughout the 1980’s. Her illustrations won over Liz Claiborne before her studies ended at the reputable school.

Gin tells The Rickie Report, “Commissions have always been challenging considering I am not a portrait artist. Most of the commission work I do, has an element of fantasy to it… almost a caricature of the subject. That style has never steered me wrong. It is my style. Truth is, there is nothing more special than a  creation of someone or something you love. As far as gifts go, it is extremely thoughtful. Which brings me to my next point. If you are looking for something original to give as a gift this holiday, walk into a local gallery. If you don’t see anything you love but you do see a style you like, commission something. Make sure you do it soon…holiday seasons get very busy for most artists”.

And Julie Naseef shows how to take nature’s bounty – shells – to build creatures, functional art and true conversation pieces. Each of these artists will be on hand to chat about their art and share insight into how the artful mind goes from the ordinary to fantastical. So join the creative minds at Artisans on the Ave Gallery and let your inner child spring to life. The Rickie Report shares the details and some sneak peeks!

To some art must be dainty, pretty and realistic. The pieces of art that do not fit into this category have a special look all of their own. Within our 3 full gallery showrooms you will see these unique pieces of art created and featured by some of our 40 local artists.

Ceramic dolls and figurative sculptures that are kind of creepy with bizarre features and rare adornments. A metal art sculpture created with hundreds of large steel welded nails or an enormous vintage wood and wire mirror wall sculpture that reflects the onlooker in almost a hundred views as they stare at it.

Unnatural shaped jewelry that is wearable in a way that is not traditional with skulls and wire thorns or abstract shapes to adorn your body. Wooden sculptures that combine oddities and absurd found objects.
