Breaking Samsara by Ronn Jaffe

“Breaking Samsara” by Ronn Jaffe

Palm Beach resident Jaffe has enjoyed an internationally recognized career as a conceptual contemporary artist, noted interior architect and furniture designer. His work has long explored the relationship between reality and dimensional illusionism, and the tension between positive and negative space, but the added media elements in The Holloman-ex Samsara take his work into new territory. Inspired by Jaffe’s life-long interest in mythology and philosophy, The “Holloman – ex Samsara” represents Everyman ‘seeking the way’ to fulfill the emptiness in the flow to meaning. “It is about breaking the cycle from illusion to enlightenment”, says Jaffe.

Beginning in the late 60’s, Jaffe created and developed the “portoid” – open spaces within his pieces. These portal/void spaces allowed the normally two-dimensional work to bring the background and foregrounds integrate into each piece, creating interaction between the work and the ever-changing world around it. The “Holloman-ex Samsara” reveals the evolution of not only Jaffe’s work, but of himself as an artist – from his beginning flat pieces, to his bas relief to the evolution into full 3-D, multi-media creations.

Included in this exhibition will be a whole new series of work highlighting sculpture from Jaffe’s Holloman series: a Portrait with a Video Eye, kinetic swiveling sculpture heads as homage to Robert Rauschenberg, intriguing Hollo Animation Films, as well as, an Andy Warhol one up called ‘15 Seconds of Fame’.

Holloman” by Ronn Jaffe

Ronn Jaffe tells The Rickie Report, “I work in the flow between the conscious/unconscious, I’m at my best when emerged in the joy and passion of creation.”  Picasso invented Cubism, Calder the Mobile, and Warhol Pop Art. Ronn Jaffe made a name for himself in the 1960’s, by inventing the ‘Multicam’ and the ‘Portoid.’ Ronn’s work has been noted for receiving a wide array of prestigious awards, which span the entire course of his career in interior architecture, writing, and contemporary conceptual art. Jaffe’s work is owned by several of the top 100 collectors in the world, as well as notables like Aristotle Onassis, the Sultan of Brunei, the Countess de Quatro, to name a few.

Ronn Jaffe, born in Washington, D.C., began his art experience at age 10 at the Corcoran Museum School. Jaffe continuing his artistic pursuits, after Graduating from Boston University and Harvard Graduate School of Design, had his first solo show in 1968 at the Park Place Gallery. Famed curator Walter Hopps gave an outstanding personal review of this first show and the show was a complete sell out on opening night. Art critic Liz Whitney wrote glowingly about Ronn’s innovative and bold work. Ronn left fine art for a time, returning in early 2000 to a full time pursuit of art; bringing us to a mature body of work that has evolved into its full prime and continues to engage both the public and art connoisseur. He currently lives in Palm Beach, Florida, with his wife, partner, and love of his life, Mars.

The “Holloman – ex Samsara” Solo exhibition by Ronn Jaffe opens at EmKo January 22 with an open reception from 6 – 9 pm at EmKo, located at 2119 S Dixie Hwy. in West Palm Beach. The “Holloman” runs through February 14.
