An afternoon with Bacco

“An Afternoon With Bacco” by Maurizio Battifora

Maurizio shares with The Rickie Report, “Although I was painting anything and everything I could as a child, I always thought I wanted to become a theater director or choreographer when I grew up. My parents encouraged my talent for painting and drawing so I became an illustrator for children’s books while attending art school. Like many other artists before me, I was encouraged by my art teachers to observe and imitate the masters that I admired”.

“Venus And The Men In Blue” by Maurizio Battifora

He goes on to say, “My inspiration still comes from Baroque and Renaissance painters. I was fascinated by the exaggerated motion, drama and tension of the paintings. It wasn’t until 2007 that I began searching for my own identity as an artist, and I evolved into a pointillist painter. Over 80% of my work is a result of empirical and intuitive development. My main body of work includes large dots of acrylic on canvas with a high contrast pointillist technique, not to be confused with Seurat’s pointillism. My technique is more graphic and bold”.

MaurizioDARE

“Dare” by Maurizio Battifora

“I developed a pointillist style based on 5 main colors that I mix and juxtapose. I am a nomadic person and artist. I work on a small series and then move to the next idea as easily as I go back to an old one. It may take me more than 40 hours to finish a 36″ x48″ canvas. I want to communicate directly with the viewer as if they are part of the painting and not a simple spectator”, Maurizio shares.  Rather than making statements, Maurizio listens to the opinion and appreciates those who contemplate his work. “To me, that’s when Art closes the circle. My idea touches someone else’s soul and then comes back to me with their own interpretation”.
