In celebration of Earth Day (April 22), Artisans on the Ave in downtown Lake Worth is featuring two artists who are totally in sync with our lovely planet!

“Connected” by Tracy Rosof-Petersen

Tracy Rosof-Petersen (EarthArtistsClayStudio.com), who is as warm as she is talented, has a passion to create pieces that celebrate our humanness, have emotional substance and utilize sustainable materials. Her new clay and sculpted tile “Connected” series features ornamentation that intertwines with the human form. Be it a vase, a vessel, a platter, this series speaks to the human relationships with each other and with our natural surroundings. Her work is continually evolving and she often mixes a sense of humor with her considerable skill in many of her creations. As with all of her pieces, they are sturdy, durable and truly nice to look at!

Wood carved Owl by Herb Brofsky

Herb Brofsky spent his career practicing dentistry, but always had a love of the arts. A collector of paintings, clocks and antiques, upon retirement, he moved to Cape Cod, MA. Continually observing the activity at the bird feeders by his kitchen window, his growing fascination with their movements led him to a new venture. Throughout his newfound bird carving career, he has studied under a variety of carvers. Using mostly bass and tupelo woods, his pieces explode with color from the acrylic paint and various washes applied to his little gems. He has so enjoyed carving birds, that he’s migrated (no pun intended) to other animals – horses, deer, fish and ducks. He is having so much fun – and winning blue ribbons at competitions – that Herb is one happy retiree.

Artisans on the Ave is located at 630 Lake Avenue in downtown Lake Worth.

Meet Herb Brofsky, Wildlife Wood Carver

Herb Brofsky, a Navy veteran and retired dentist, was always an art lover and collector.  After he retired from his dental practice, he and his wife, Ruth, moved to Cape Cod, MA.  Searching for a new activity to keep his mind sharp, he learned about wood carving at the Senior Center of Barnstable, MA.  Herb found teachers who could help him create carvings.

Herb utilizes two different types of wood: bass and tupelo.  While he began his carving venture by creating sea captains, he would continually observe the activity at the bird feeders by his kitchen window.  This growing fascination of the birds’ movements led him to a new focus.

Wildlife Wood Carving by Herb Brofsky

Throughout his newfound bird carving career, he has studied under a variety of carvers.  He credits June Noll, a nationally award-winning master wildlife carver, with helping him attain the minute details you will find in each bird carving.

After the carving is finished, Herb carefully chooses the appropriate acrylic paint colors and washes to complete his valuable birds.  Herb also carves horse, deer, fish, and ducks.  His work can be seen at Artisans on The Ave Gallery in Lake Worth, FL and  Vermont Artisan Designs in Brattleboro, VT.   Herb is available to create commission and promises that no two carvings are ever alike!

Choose a fused glass wine holder in a bold contemporary color or a great corkscrew/stopper. Perhaps a vintage car photograph would be to his liking to add nostalgia to his man cave. The executive in your life may enjoy a wonderful, custom created ink pen. Whatever you choose we are sure he will be pleased!!
