Networking Brings Furry Friends Hang20 Surf Dog Classic, Art and Love Of Ocean Together

The Rickie Report believes that networking is a major key to success!  Pat Deshong, President of Furry Friends, is a fan of Ilene Gruber Adams’ photography and design work.  Pat asked Ilene to create a poster in her colorful photographic style and Ilene, a lover of four legged creatures and the ocean jumped right on it. That’s how Furry Friends Hang20 Surf Dog Classic© came to life!  The Rickie Report celebrates artists, artisans, art lovers and art patrons when they come together for a good cause.   What can be better than spending a day at the beach? Furry Friends Adoption & Clinic is presenting the Hang 20 Surf Dog Classic© on Saturday, August 29th from 8:00 am-2:30 pm at the Civic Center at Carlin Park in Jupiter, Florida. Skip Hartzell Finally Letting His Dogs Out at Paul Fisher Gallery

Lake Worth Artist Skip Hartzell Has Over 100 Dogs!  And he is letting his dogs out for the first time at the Paul Fisher Gallery on July 25th. Skip Hartzell’s Dogs are not your ordinary dogs. These dogs are figments of his artistic imagination and creative vision. Don’t look for portraits of your pooch or pictures of dogs playing cards because you’ll not find them.  20% of the proceeds from the sale of the artwork will be donated to Furry Friends Rescue, a local 501 (c)(3) no-kill dog rescue. Furry Friends will be on-site with some of their adorable real-life adoptable dogs. Dogs are invited to attend this event and Woofgang Bakery of Palm Beach will be there with special doggy treats!  The Rickie Report shares the details of this exhibit and a sneak peek!

"Doodles" by Skip Hartzell

“Doodles” by Skip Hartzell

When you walk into Skip Hartzell’s studio you are greeted by hundreds of dogs in all shapes, sizes, textures and colors. There are dogs on the wall that create an intriguing color field installation. There are medium size dogs standing or sitting and hanging all over the place. And his large dogs just ask to be hugged.

Skip’s work is entertaining, optimistic and captivating. There is something primitive yet sophisticated about his art. He is able to combine a unique artistic playfulness with a serious understanding of shape, color and texture. Working with a series of repeating personal dog images that is somewhat reminiscent of Jim Dine’s hearts, Skip prefers to emphasize the hands-on, gestural, and expressive nature of his work.

In addition to the sculptures, Skip creates large paintings and drawings that capture the essence of “dog”.  But don’t be fooled by the cuteness of this work. Just like real dogs, Skip’s dogs draw you in yet they are tethered by a thin leash, extending beyond the canvas to where?  All of his work is rich with intricacies of color and technique. His painterly expression captures each dog’s own personality with beautiful textures, line and brush strokes using mixed media to bring each dog to life.

“Patiently” by Skip Hartzell

Skip states, “I believe that the secret to making good art is to empty your head of all assumptions, preconceived thoughts and ideas, then simply open yourself to all possibilities and let the magic flow through you.  Inspiration comes about through perspiration and it is better to be prolific than to try to be perfect. Although I love dogs, my work is about form, movement, color, texture and mostly about personal painterly expression.”
