Deborah is well known for her great love of nature. She gives people a glimpse of how animals live in the wild in a secret world, raise their young, court and survive. Her quest for nature has taken her from the Everglades National Park to Denali National Park in Alaska.

Deborah grew up on a farm in Connecticut, surrounded by nature and began drawing as a child, copying her mother’s paintings of Bambi, Flower and Thumper on her bedroom wall. Since they were painted on the hall wall, her parents quickly provided her with coloring books, paints and crayons to encourage her creativity. She began drawing birds in grade school, winning awards at the school and painted and drew every summer and during the school year, often forgoing homework! She earned her college degree with a dual major in Illustration and Commercial Art. She graduated with honors and moved to South Florida where she has worked for many years as a graphic artist for The Sun Sentinel. She is currently a Special Sections Designer for the paper and in her “spare time” teaches at Old School Square in Delray Beach, does local workshops and demos.

Mediums used by Deborah include pastel, oils and acrylics and may involve an under painting for added luminosity and atmosphere. Each medium requires different procedures. With pastels it involves washes of color and turpentine. In oils she blocks out colors. With acrylics she builds on layers going from light to dark.

Deborah LaFogg Docherty Offers Two Day Workshop: “Expressing Your Inner Animal in Pastel”

Deborah LaFogg has gone from an “emerging” to one of National acclaim and is now offering a local workshop for artists at Hennevelt’s Gallery!  She is a busy woman!  We don’t state that lightly.  She is teaching classes, workshops, caring for family members, keeping watch over animals who wander into her yard or noticing an unusual butterfly  –  and she is always working at her artwork.  Her Facebook posts modestly share her most recent acceptances to National Exhibits as well as Awards. She honestly seems surprised that anyone pays attention to her work – but she is very wrong.  Through Deborah’s artistry, we see the true essence of the animals she captures in pastel and paint. We are lucky! The Rickie Report shares the details and a few photos of her award-winning artworks.  Sign up for her workshop before the spaces are taken! You are in for a treat! Future workshops and exhibits are listed here as well.
