Emmanuel tells The Rickie Report, “I explore the past and present through realism and portraiture. My body of work includes a growing retrospective of American icons, where each piece is presented as a fragment in a larger American patchwork. Individually, my subjects characterize the social climate at a given moment in history”.

WASEmmanuelIMG_3816

Artwork by Emmanuel Gonzales

He goes on to say, “They are influential, recognizable images; relevant within specific ethnic and social groups. Some subjects are foreign to others outside of a particular group or generation. Just as one group identifies emotionally with a particular image through a shared social lens, outsiders will experience these images differently. The “recognition factor” of my subjects reaffirms the identity and unique cultural perspective of a specific group while simultaneously establishing an ”otherness” in viewers outside of a given group. I use pencil, pastels, oil, acrylic, and watercolor to create movement and energy to bring intimacy to large-scale pieces with an attention to subtleties often refined through detailed pencil work”.

A Delray Beach native, Emmanuel’s art work is in Private Collections including The Chesterfield Hotel (Palm Beach, FL), Friars Club (New York, NY), Jim Towey, Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, a private Palm Beach Collector, Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) and Helen Rosberg (Wrigley Heir).

Toni G. Willey found that colored pencils and a tablet had been appendages as far back as she can remember, then one day, fate intervened and drawing turned to painting at the age of seven. Teachers said she painted the way Mozart played music; it just rolled off her fingers and made her compelled to paint.

Her latest form of artistic activism happens on the canvas with “The Vanishing Series”, which uses those inhabitants of earth who are facing extinction. Toni paints with a style that brings her images to life with her choice of realistic colors and techniques. Her own rendition of the animals she paints remind us of the images that early man etched on the walls of a cave in past prehistoric times. When looking at her “African Animal Series”, it is as if you are actually walking through the depths of the jungle and seeing the massive strength and beauty of its inhabitants.

You get a true sense of being one with these wonderfully marvelous animals she portrays and paints on her canvas. Her paintings reveal the likeness of each of the animals she paints and when looking at and admiring her “Vanishing Series” you become aware of the tragedy of the loss and extinction of each one of these beautiful animals that are so important to us.

Barbra Ellison tells The Rickie Report, “In 2013, I traveled to France with my sister to honor my husband Michael, by visiting some of the areas that he lived as a child. During the journey, I documented churches, abbeys and neighborhoods of northern France, enjoying the time with my sister, as well as observing the culture and beauty of the countryside”.

The selection of images from France cover three specific areas – Paris, and the regions of Burgundy and Loire, “Three Faces of France”. These images were processed and presented in three different ways, through a variety of mediums. The first series consists of scenes enhanced by the choice of Japanese paper, printed to create a softness through the torn edges and fibers that run through the scene. Traveling to the second group, the images were printed in black and white on French watercolor paper, and then hand colored with pastels to create the feeling of years gone by, reminders of the turn of the century chalk paintings. The final group consists of images that were printed on hand painted backgrounds of gold. All three groups of images were hand torn and floated on matching backdrops to maintain the simplicity of the images.
